No it's a discussion point that a bloke also did a knee 4 times and fought back and played what many would think was a similar level of footy. 17 regular season games including a flag.

So my opinion is.... while Menzel is of course a feel good story... To say his story is "far and away the best story in recent memory" is pretty far fetched. When a bloke did the same and went and won a flag.

I guess you must have a very short memory.

Bailey only did 3 ACL's and he was a role player at best anyway.

It's a good story but it's not "GREAT" until he has a premiership next o his name and it won't be this year.....................

Not sure how winning a premiership changes anything for Menzel's story. He is but one of 22 players on a team.

What was "great" about Stynes, McCartney or M-T ?

The hardest part for Menzel is not winning the 2011 flag after doing the hard work to get into the Cats team at the time. Trying to think "what if" while going through rehab would've been so difficult for him.

Hope we can get the same result as last time he played the QF but this time he gets through unscathed.

I love a shitfight more than anything but does it have to infest every single thread?

I for one commend Menzel for the effort he has put in to get back on to the field. Coming back from one knee reco is tough but four is nigh impossible. I personally had my doubts that he would come back. I thought it would be impossible that he would be as good as he has been. He has proved me wrong and I'm happy to admit it.

Every club has great stories. I'll never forget what Bailey did for the club considering he was on virtually one leg by the end of 2013 and it was a heroic effort in itself but that doesn't take me away from enjoying Menzel's story either. See beyond the colours they wear. Both are exceptionally strong human beings.

Have to have huge respect for Menzel and the mental fortitude it must have taken to keep on going after so many setbacks along the way. Comes across like a very decent bloke as well. I have no desire whatsoever to see the Cats win the flag, but on an individual level this guy deserves whatever success comes his way.

I think the point the OP was making, is that many players have made it back from difficult circumstances, but no one has made it back to be playing at the level that Menzel is.

He is one of Geelong's best players and the weeks when he is rested and fresh, he is playing at the level of an All Australian forward. He is a truly remarkable football talent, that has largely been lost to the game. I don't think we will ever know how good he could have been.

You only have to look at Morabito, who was a huge talent himself, to see the impact of 4 recos has on an explosive talent.

Without the knees, I would think Menzel would be a midfielder, resting forward and probably be one of the very best players in the league. I think his achievements this year have been undersold a little bit. Which is weird for an AFL media obsessed over the emotional angle.
