I based this comment on several things I have read and yes personal experience, not that I've ever met Yarran.

It's been reported that Yarran had a run in with the law pre getting drafted and that it was a good career move him getting drafted interstate away from several 'aquaintances'.

Voss reported on the trip to South Africa he dropped a pick pocket and someone else reported he was a pretty decent boxer.

He was mates with NickNat and Walters and I'd suggest its a fair chance their would have been quite a few 'groupies' hanging around these guys, most likely the 'aquaintances' referred to earlier.

Up here in Darwin we see it all the time, the young indigenous footy stars have a lot of 'footy mates' and family who build up their ego's and go out of their way to impress them and 'look after them' so to speak.

I'm sure I'll get a few "geez your drawing a long bow" and "you shouldn't generalise" etc but thats how life is from where I sit.
I met him at a party once, (yarran that is) before being drafted.. His mates were absouloute ********s of the highest order but Yarran really seemed shy and almost down to earth, and seemed as though he almost didn't want to be there.. I think getting out of W.A was the best possible result for him

It was a doco that ABC did on three indigenous boys, Chris Yarran being one, who all took part in the Kickstart program. Certainly opened up my eyes, but I think Yarran is settled, he just needs confidence as he is a quiet person. I just checked iView, they don't have it on there anymore unfortunately

Yarran played an average game and then gets written off as an AFL player. Geez bit rough, indigenous boys find consistency hard at the start of their career. Aaron Davey has only started to become a consistent player in the past few years. Give him some time, he will come on.

I have not written him off, I am just unsure why people seem to want to chase him above others.

Was ver insightful actually - followed 3 boys chasing their football dream over the course of 4? years... lets just say that Yarran was the only one to make it. I have saved on TiVo - can transfer onto hardrive and upload but unsure how to upload?

Agree.

Yarran strikes me as one of those kids who dominated in juniors based on skill plus an air of intimidation (you come near me then me and the boys will smash you behind the sheds after the game). He's had everyone telling him how good a player he is at junior level and never needed to work his ar$e off to play well.

Then he gets drafted. No mates backing him up after the game, opposition doesn't care who he is, everyone is much bigger than him and he doesn't work hard enough on or off the field. It almost seems he is waiting for his natural skills and flair to work at AFL level.

More than happy for his trade value to drop as no way would I consider a 1st round pick a fair trade from what he has shown.

A marking half forward/ midfielder role in the mold of a LeCras, Didak, Thomas, Weedon and Yarran; requires excellent endurance and repeat sprints.

Far to early to say he won't reach his fully potential (potentially very very good).

Yer we had a thread about it i think. Was really really good.

Insert Daniel Rich into our side next year and we'll definitely be playing finals in 2012.

Respectable 10th in 2011, Woosha earns 3 year contract extension.

Masten and two draft picks for Rich and we'll be a premiership contender in three years time :)

I really, really hope we can snare him.

Can anyone imagine: Shuey, Rich and Lecca starting in the middle in a few years time? That's just jizz-tastic.

watching the GC tonight and it's obvious as **** how much talent Matera, Swallow and Bennell have.

And whilst Conca hasn't done much so far for Richmond he had a very good year in the underages last year...

alongside rich we should really be doing our upmost to get one of these lads to come back home.

we're in a good position in this respect because of the facilities and money within our club we have been able to have a good track record of retaining interstate players...

but when any WA lads get the come home factor there is only us and freo competing for them.

obviously you should never be paying overs for anyone, but there are a number of targets you'd like to think we'd at least look into over the next few years.

I'm greedy, I want all 3 ;). Gold Coast is a rubbish football club in a kitsch city full of retirees and filth. Hope the boys have some bad experiences and want to get the f*ck out of there.

Also hope they become best mates and all come back together and there's no need for them to take pay cuts because we get a Visy style sponsorship going. :D

Same goes for Rich really. Aside from Eagles games, will have a strong interest this year in watching Lions and Suns get spanked as often as possible.

Well the Lions are playing their part, geing flogged in the 1st quarter.:thumbsu:

Id take lewis jetta he would suit paterson and we could use his line breaking ability.

shep may not have started this season great (haven't seen port game but reviews i've read on here weren't flash) but the more i watched the two guys last year the more i was happier we went shepp.

jetta looks great. speed, hands, pick ups, but as soon as he goes to kick it... it has a tendancy to all fall apart. and despite the fact he kicked 18 behinds before a goal or something redicolous there was still so much praise for him and completely glossing over those behinds....
