Re: Rich an Eagle in 2012?

I think we got the player that the club targeted I had mixed feelings as well but didn`t want to dwell in the should`aves and could`aves .

polec and heppell played on each other ,with polec having no defencive side to his game ,heppell got a heap of loose balls ,Polec did kick a nice goal though.Gaff will be elite i think.

Dont get me wrong im not having a cheap shot at gaff i just think the club went the safe option with picking him.

IMO we should of taken polec, yes i agree polec may of had no defencive side to his game but do any quality junior midfielders have a defencive game style.

The reality is guys that Swift wouldn't command jack shit at the trade table and i doubt that will change by seasons end.

Rich is certainly worth going after and if he want's to come home we will have an edge over Fremantle.

Hopefully what Swift showed last weekend is a sign of a change in form for him

If he DID come on to his potential this year - would we be so keen on the trade?

Re: Rich an Eagle in 2012?

Getting Rich does have negatives in some ways.

Firstly he will cost something, a first rounder minimum and probably a player, possibly an Ebert or Swift.

Also for Rich to bail out on Brisbane when they need a young leader like him doesn't bode well when you rate someones character.

True but in fairness he wouldn't be the first to bail on Brisbane.

Re: Rich an Eagle in 2012?

To be honest i dont really even want him. At-least for the price he would hold. We have enough young quality inside mids its actually ridiculous. Shuey, masten, ebert, swift, stevens, scooter. There's too many to count. So unless we traded off say ebert and something else for rich i would be ohk with it but we really should be looking at outside talent.

Gaff and sheppard are our only good young outside players really. Would love a polec/hill type player.

When have they ever proven themselves as quality??

We have Kerr as a proven mid, maybe NN as maybe because he shows something that we haven't seen on our list for a very long time ...........then.........no one

Re: Rich an Eagle in 2012?

Hang on why would we need him?????? Remember nearly everyone was saying last Sunday that Priddis and masten are now Elite Mids
With Kerr and Swift and Rosa we are already contending the premiership this year.....

Ok enough SHITE from me, Rich would be nice in the midfield but truthfully I would prefur D.Swollow or L.Jetta.
So I wont hold my Breath on any of those 3. :thumbsu:

They are high quality highly regarded young mids. Never said they were proven. But they are expected to be high level players in the future.

tren, mora, swallow, bennell........this makes me contemplate crying

Apart from winning the Rising Star, which is a comp for kids, has Rich really proven himself to be anything but a B+ player to date?

I think the young guys we have are not that far behind Rich (B graders to date) for what they have shown and the question on Rich was how much improvement has he got left in him?

Re: Rich an Eagle in 2012?

This would only happen if Worsfold is not coach at the end of the year.

Re: Rich an Eagle in 2012?

How come:confused:

Why would Worsfold leaving affect the recruitment of Rich?
I probably meant this would only be possible if Worsfold left because its obvious hes not a fan of trading players. He doesn't even like delisting them so asking one to leave who still deserves their spot on the list is not something I could see Woosha doing. A new coach however may be a bit more ruthless.

Stenglein, Chick and 2006 premiership say hi!

Re: Rich an Eagle in 2012?

I wouldn't trade him for a draft pick, we will have a top 5 pick again this year, not worth it, now if we shipped off some of our younger spuds...

For us to have a top 5 pick next year we will have to finish dead last. GWS have first three picks, then 6 & 8..... just like GC did this year. If we finish anywhere between 8th & 12th which i'm positive we will, were looking at picks :

8th place Pick 17
9th place Pick 16
10th place Pick 15
11th place Pick 14
12th place Pick 12

None of those picks by themselves would ever see a deal get done. So more than likely we would have to lose a player of some worth that we might not want to lose. If we are also hoping to land either Cong (which i doubt we will) or Yarran i think we would have to accept that getting Rich might be a little too hard. Seriously who would you let go and would they be of serious worth to BLFC. ? Discuss.

I would like to see that happen as we could offer Daniel Kerr and two first round draft picks in exchange for Rich, but he'll end up at GWS if he decides to leave.

Ebert and a first round pick.

Our first pick this year is hopefully going to be a lot further down the list and we must be near the point where we know we have the squad to challenge in a few years, rather than constantly searching for Judd II in the draft. Rich would complement that strategy - young, proven player.

If the Lions do struggle, they're already potentially going to lose key players to GWS (e.g. Clark, Leunberger) and get screwed by the draft with GWS having the jump on them. This would guarantee them at least two picks in the first round.

Ebert just sweetens the deal .............. somehow.

And what do we have to give up to get that second first round pick?

Ebert to Port?

So Kerr + Ebert + our first round pick for Rich?

Um ............. NO!

kerr + our first pick for rich is actually a brilliant deal for us. its trading away the past, and someone who is past his best, for someone young and possibly a champ

but that sort of trading is not feasible for the lions now. they wont make the same mistake as they made last year again.

nope, by the time we get to possibly trading for rich, voss will be gone, and a massive list renewel via the draft will be planned. if we can round up a couple of first rounders we might tempt them, but at that stage they are not going to just let go of their best young midfield option.

Re: Rich an Eagle in 2012?

2 players in 10 years of football that wanted to return home anyway. At this stage there is no indication that Rich wants to come home and thus we'd be forced to make a play to get him here. Something I can't see Worsfold doing.

Re: Rich an Eagle in 2012?

ok realistic scenario......

if GWS poach of our players (eg Waters) at the end of this year and we receive something close to a first round compensation pick, especially if we do still have a top 5 pick from finishing low this year... would going after Rich not be a decent option??
