He would have been a great key forward at most of the clubs with PSD picks before us, actually. If you're saying the Eagles would rather McKinley than Anthony, or Essendon would rather Neagle/Gumbleton...
The Eagles have Kennedy, Brown, LeCras and they seem to like Wilson, so their forward line isn't of major interest to them...hence McKinley not getting a game and now obviously being unloaded for peanuts. No interest there.
Although I would much rather Gumby than Anthony, Neagle obviously is junk, so they may have had a use for JA. Fact is though, JA isn't enough of a commodity to make it worth the hassle of drafting him against his wishes.
The PSD is great because the clubs respect each other enough not to poach players who have made up their mind. As soon as they stop respecting that, the player's association will fast track free agency and trade week will be a laugh. Brisbane will never be able to find 22 players willing to take the field for them.
I don't think it has anything to do with respect at all, more like if a fringe/old player has their heart set on playing somewhere why bother dealing with that headache? e.g. You reckon if Hilly said "I want to play for Carlton" and went to the PSD the other clubs with earlier picks would not pick him up? Nick Stevens tried that one.
As was said, Free Agency is happening in 2012, but as it stands Clark and/or Rich wouldn't qualify for it anyway.
