Toast Danyle Pearce - Retiring

For his sportsmanship in admitting his goal was touched.Played a great game.Turning out to be one of our best recruits. :thumbsu:
I didn't even realise he admitted it, thought the boundary umpire called it touched after the Melbourne players disputed it.

We are finally starting to see the Danyle we recruited. Beating the Port game plan out of him and building him with confidence to play our way.

You can tell now he is fumbling less and increasing his accuracy when he goes for the long kicks that the guys see all the time at training.

Those long bombs were beauties... Wonder why we haven't seen many of them? Possible that RTB has had him focusing on learning the game plan first and now that he's getting used to it, he's been let off the leash a little. It was leading up to this point last year that it all clicked for the rest of our team, so excited to see Danyle's form after the bye - and itch Stephen Hill on the park. They can tag one, but they can't stop both of them at the same time!

Plus, helps that he is very excited and happy to be playing here in the purple. :thumbsu:

was asked about it post match said he just wanted to get on with it and give his teammates time to get back to their positions.

Also playing a very different role to his time at Port Adelaide. Much more in and under.

LOL to all those calling for his head just 2 weeks ago.

Because other clubs realise it is his strength and try not to give him the space. Melbourne, on the other hand.......

Had a cracking game yesterday I thought.
Sure the opposition wasn't first class but he definitely looked like he wanted to grab the game by the scruff of the neck.

I think he has been a very good pick up for us and will only get better and better as he intergrates himself in with the team and game plan more.

Thats the umpires job to call not his imagine if it cost us a game he should of kept his mouth shut, good game today really starting to get a understanding with the boys

Would like to see him play that consistently when the heat is on though...I think it has taken time for him to adapt to Lyon's game plan but tends to try and do too much at times and when the heat is on his decision making can be found wanting but has improved throughout the year...

The main gripe that I had with him so far is that so often when he did have space he's burned it. There's a lot to like when he's on. Hopefully we see more of it against a decent team in Adelaide.

What's the point of having honest players when we have one particular umpire who is a cheat.

I'm pretty sure he wouldn't say anything in a close game.

We were up by 68 points at that stage of the game.

Fair call just reckon actions like that give you an insight to what kind of guy he is.....he is like we are killing them I am not going to make it any worse can not imagine too many other players doing that, maybe we should nickname him gilly!
;)

I wasn't calling for his head, but he was playing poorly IMO.
I thought he had a good game on the weekend against one of the worst teams I have ever had the misfortune of seeing live. I'm looking forward to see how he goes this week.

I'd love for him to channel some of the Showdown love for Adelaide when we head over there - he'll be familiar with AAMI stadium - should feel at home there. I think when there's less pressure on him his delivery is good - how he performs in games where he has less time and space is the real test of his improvement.

Thanks for mentioning it. Most others wouldn't have shown that sportsmanship.

The only thing I was p!ss^d at him was that he costed me a few extra DT points. :D

Pearce was picked up to relieve some of the pressure on Hill. As it turns out, he's had a surprising impact on the clearances and has shown glimpses of what he can do in space. I don't think he will ever be as effective as Hill, but the two working together is what it is all about. Especially now that Hill seems to be working through tags a lot more effectively. When they are both fully fit and firing it is going to cause so many headaches for opposition teams. I see Hill, Pearce and Walters as the guys in Freo's team that are capable of the freakish and amazing. They are the spark when the team will need it.
