I'm not sure what you base this theory on. Goldsack is 36/37? Ruckman usually take longer to develop....
Goldstein is absolutely cooked tbf.

It’s a tough one. He’s so important for us but I wouldn’t be surprised if he moves if he’s being offered better $$$ + contract length elsewhere.

We also showed with Grundy we don’t want that much tied up in the ruck position. Whether they deem that Cameron offers enough to our game style to warrant it though, I don’t know.

Would be a huge loss.

Goldstein was never as good around the ground as Cameron, and his priority hasn't been rucking in the AFL for the past 2 to 3 years (development coaching has). What I am saying is that despite this, he was STILL okay against us on ANZAC DAY.

Cameron is clearly a different type of ruckman to Grundy. Grundy could never take contested/intercept marks and still can't.

I'm not sure why you would question whether Cameron offers enough to compliment our game style as he's been ONE of the main reasons why we won the flag in 2023, he improved again in 2024 and has gone up a gear again this year!

His reading of the play, composure, contested and intercept marking are ELITE. Only Gawn is ahead of him IMO as a ruck and not even he cannot match Cameron in intercept marks!

We won't be able to match what WCE offer Cameron, so the ball will be in his court. He will have a choice of whether to go to his home state and take the extra money or stay for a reduced amount and play in a serious football side, which he clearly seems to enjoy being a part of.

Whether he stays or goes - Collingwood will survive and thrive. Don't be fooled by the position of ruck. Cameron's weapon is his positioning, clearances and marking around the ground in open play. Not so much hit outs.

He is our 2nd best player and has a huge role in our side, I really wouldn't entertain a trade unless you get basically TDK in return and then you have to teach the equivalent of TDK (Doubt Blues agree to deal him to us) how to play in a proper side/system
No way. It would cost and arm and a leg in salary. Then you’d have to factor in the time and cost to wash the Filth out of him.

Im sure ill get told im wrong but i still think Steene will be a player. Ruckman dont even come on the radar until they're 25-26. Darcy is nearly 30 and now were seeing his best. Xerri has been around for 8 years. Patience with these big blokes is key

You’re not wrong

One ruckman hit 30 you have to be careful with these contracts. Could offer him a 2 year extension on the current one and bump his coin up slightly.
If WCE offer us something decent you have to look at it due to his age/position.
Many of the premier ruckman are in their 30s, and Cameron’s style of play mostly resembles Gawn (ie not too reliant on athleticism like a Grundy or TDK).

Looks that way.... Gawn is still the dominant ruckman at 34.
and Cameron is 30 turning 31 hence extend him for a couple seasons on the current deal which would take him to that 34 year age.

Cameron is a bit atypical though, given he only just played his 100th game due to being such a late bloomer.

Ruckman are the 1 position where the norm is once they hit that 32-33 age they go downhill quickly. Gawn is obviously the outlier but you cant give big contacts to them after that 30 age. The fact he is under contract til end of next season, just extend for a further 2 which will take him to 34ish and then do the 1 year contract offers.

In recent years, Gawn, Witts, Goldstein, Sandilands, Mumford, Ryder and McEvoy have all rucked pretty well into their 30s. I think the way Cameron plays lends itself to longevity.

Wouldn’t like to lose him, but if we could be well compensated and pick up a decent ruck on the cheap, it could almost work out for the best (obviously a risk at backfiring).

Look at Hawks picking up Meek for nothing and now having one of the better rucks in the league.

Could be a chance for a win-win to regenerate the list a little bit and reward Cameron as he deserves. Not sure WCE really win in the equation due to where their list is at, but that’s not my concern.

This could be the kind of move that unlocks an opportunity for Reid, Rowell, Butters, Bont, etc

Our current 'OLD' list is proof that modern high performance and recovery is enabling players to extend their longevity.

Not sure these definitive statements are relevant.
