WWDD bumper sticker next I'm guessing. Seriously, I don't know how I couldn't see that the talk of him being the top pick in an open draft was serious and not just a reminder we'd grabbed a steal.
I didn't rate McCartin but Petracca looked a and still does look a gun. I know I wouldn't swap him.

Dave is a man of few vices - doesn't drink, do drugs, gamble or stay out late. He is an object lesson to us all in how we should live our lives.
Pass, I'd rather have a job, go out with bad women and drink like a fish.

Maybe Stats don't tell the Whole Story. Moore was way more Physical then Jessica White Was. White's Goals where mostly Crumbing Ones or getting the ball after a Drop Mark
And how did Moore get most of his 5 goals against the Doggies?

You can't have it both ways Dave. Yes, Moore has greater intensity, but to date he doesn't get the ball as much as White or kick as many goals. They're the facts. It's not a statement about either player being better or worse, just the facts.

So Moore should stay in the VFL until he has a Few 4+ Goals games in a Row?
Ideally, I'd like all our recruits to earn a senior game through weight of VFL performances. Moore and Maynard had their debuts gifted to them when other players clearly had better form. I think both have long term futures but I don't see why there is so much urgency to get them into the team. Now they've both had extended senior exposure, both will be hard to dislodge.

There's a fair bit of difference between Stanley and Moore. One sees ball gets ball....the other runs around trying to "dominate" without touching the ball that much and then gets himself injured. I don't actually want to compare young Darce to anyone else just yet. Having met the young man the most impressive things about him are his desire to succeed and his willingness to listen, to evaluate and to improve in every session.

There's no doubt that Jessie Hogan is a bull FF. But that's what the huge full backs love. A marking contest where they just have to bring the ball to ground or a two on one contest. Most full backs hate (yes you read it here) HATE having a running player assigned to them at FF. They start calling for chop outs when he leads, they follow in behind the quick leading FF's because they can't chop arms, they can't hold or impede and they genuinely can't keep up.

Jesse Hogan is not Jono Brown, Tony Lockett, Ablett snr or Dermott Brereton....he doesn't intimidate (yet). Until he does, then he can't be compared to any of them any more than Darcy Moore can be compared to his old man. Hogan might become a Dunstall type if his team mates can be taught to deliver the ball properly to him....lottsa variables there though. So it's interesting that Moore is even being mentioned in the same breath with a guy that plays one position only (compared to Moore's versatile future) and who is physically mature compared to Darcy's 2-3 year plan to get there.

I think in 10 years time we'll be saying both Moore and Hogan had great careers. But the journey there is going to be an interesting comparison.
From what I've read, Dave's the only poster who has compared Stanley's performance with Moore. The remainder of us have just highlighted that there are other players in the league who have equal pace and athleticism IE: Stanley.

Can't believe the Anti-Moore types on this thread. Some of the things he did in season 1 defy belief. He will be a very very good player -one to build a team around.
So because we're not getting carried away by Moore's performances to date, being a bit realistic, we're anti-Moore types..... hmmmm.... right!

Just point me to the posters who aren't really enthusiastic about Moore's long term future.

Adam McPhee was once an AA. There are plenty of very ordinary players that have very good seasons and been rewarded. I don't see Moore in that boat.

He'll be a consistently above average player at least and more likely a very good one. His skill, athleticism and fierce desire will give him every chance of being a significant player. With that, I'm sure he'll have a least a season where things go his way.
While I agree that there are some surprising 1 hit wonders gaining AA selection, Adam McPhee was a utility type, lot tougher competition for KPF/D spots. Hogan and Cameron for instance will not be too far away without even considering the more established Roughy or Buddy types. Haven't seen enough of Moore yet to be confident he'll surpass either Hogan or Cameron.

Exactly, I had a look at that a while ago...

His first was a handball receive when he wasn't manned up, and he ran into an open goal. The second he ran onto a loose ball in the forward line (again while unmanned). The third he took an uncontested mark while unmanned in the fifty. The fourth he won a free kick. The fifth he took a contested mark against a shorter opponent. Horrbile play by the Bulldogs defenders were the main reason he got so many goals.

In my humble opinion, the only real metrics that are relevant for a key forward are marks inside F50, contested marks (anywhere on the ground) and goals from set shots. All else is icing, but if they haven't yet shown they can do the 'cake' components of the role, I am not going to get too excited. I am not going to be excited about any goal from a key forward that comes from a handball from a team mate while not manned up.

That has long been my criticism of White (as Dave mentioned as well), but Moore has not shown yet to be any better in this regard. And until I see a trajectory of improvement for these three things from Moore, I can't get behind a claim that he will be a superstar.

Yeah, I'm really optimistic about him but there just isn't enough evidence to date to be throwing the superstar tag around. At worst, he projects as a good solid long term player. Time will tell if he'll surpass that.
