Just heard on SEN that Davey is reported for head over ball contact. They said on the radio it looked like both players slipped and therefore an accident. anyone see it? do you think he will go?

its so hard to tell nowadays with that bs "duty of care" rule. how you can get done for accidental contact in a contact sport is beyond me

umpiring sounds pretty awful on the radio. a lot of weak decisions.
Nothing to worry about. You shouldn't be reported for something you didn't have any intention to do. In fairness, the Crows player should be reported for not being able to stay on his feet and headbutting Davey's knee.

mattner slipped straight into the tackle, it will get thrown out
Having watched parts of most games this week, the game today was above standard.
You only need to watch the first quarter of the Freo Port game to see where umpiring interrupted the play every two minutes.
The report was soft, but any head contact these days will get done. It should be thrown out. Free kick nothing more.
This is the problem. By trying to protect the head so much the AFL are actually giving players an incentive to duck into tacklets like Mattner did (I know he slipped, but after he did he also ducked the head) because it's a guaranteed free kick. If anything it's going to increase the chance of a bloke suffering a serious injury.

Ridiculous report, would not even be deemed rough in under 12's.
Agreed; should not be any concerns. Soft report.
But I think that this 'ducking' was a case of automatic reaction. If you see something coming straight at your head .. you automatically duck. This is different to players who have time to think about ducking, and then do, as a considered action to draw an infringement and a free.
No problem for Davey, throw it out.
When he went into the book i was worried it might disrupt his game a bit. Thinking twice before going in to tackle etc but he kept on keeping on. Thought our offensive pressure was awesome today. Never seen us better when the ball was in an opponents hand in our forard half

mattner was lucky to get a free kick let alone froggy getting reported. he has nothing to worry about. there was nothing he could've done to avoid contact.
