Awesome player - his kicking skills are second to none - and he is one of those players that seems to be slow, but then manages to avoid being tackled or always seems to get the ball away.

Great player who has remained very loyal to Freo by resisting many offers by Vic clubs.

Class act.

As a neutral supporter I thought his GF was one of the greatest performances ever in a loss. If I was a Freo fan I'd never forget it

His 3rd quarter in that game was outstanding...better than Stewy Dew...we just never got the chocolates

Lifted from the Freo Facebook page - evidence that he has flown a long way under the radar - top 8 in AFL history for disposals, contested possessions and tackles...yet only one All Australian and even that was on the interchange bench.

EDIT: these stats were posted as per the Freo page, but they are a little misleading. Having checked the AFL stats page, the all time rankings are of those players still playing. He’s Top 25 of the AFL era in disposals, CPs and tackles, but top 8 of current players. Still impressive, but a good example of massaging stats to suit a narrative.

6326 – His career disposal total is the most for any player based in WA and eighth in all-time in the AFL.

2641 – His contested possessions are the most in club history and ranks him seventh all-time in the AFL.

1135 – His career tackles is 337 more than any other Fremantle player and ranks eighth in the all-time tackle count in the AFL.

299 – Mundy’s current games total is the most by any player wearing the no.16 in AFL history.

124 – The number of consecutive games Mundy played after making his debut in 2005 (round six against Melbourne). In 2009 became the eighth player in AFL history to reach the 100-game milestone without missing a game.

This weekend in a great bit of synchronicity, David Mundy plays his 300th game against the Bulldogs, the team that coughed up pick 19 for Steven Koops, amd lobbed him in our laps...good to get a trade win for a change.

Often unheralded and shaded by Fyfe, Pav and Sandilands this fella is an absolute Rolls Royce of a footballer. Never made all Australian but has been a bloody marvellous footballer anyway.

In the granny we lost he almost turned the game our way by himself. And who could forget the two Mundy v Richmond games.

Congrats on a great career that is still being played at an elite level, being fantastic again today against GWS.

It's time.

Soak it up.

Wow, those are some impressive stats - top 10 AFL all-time in disposals, contested possessions and tackles. Noice.

Some players best might be better but Mundy has played at his best for about as long as anyone.

I posted in the redo the 2003 draft thread at the beginning of last year when Mundy started really well that he would have to be close to the pick of the 2003 draft in hindsight. Heath Shaw, Cooney also in the mix but he's definitely right up there. Lots of good players retired for years and Mundy could play on next year and push into something like the top 20 for number of games played.

Would be creamed over if he decided to go back to Melbourne, I think it was Essendon who were always linked to him. I remember being surprised at the time when he re-signed and stayed – I just thought he'd go.

Pretty crazy to see him notch up 300 but I'd be happy to see him play out another two years off half-back. He just knows where the play's going. My mental image is him just skimming the side of a pack and sharking a handball. Asset. Natural. My one knock on him is he doesn't seem to be an overly charismatic guy and he doesn't seem the sort of bloke to really rally young blokes and be an on-field coach sort. If he had that, I'd let him play 'til he was 40.

He's also had, what, three chances to win a game with less than 10 seconds left?

I have never heard a negative word spoken about this bloke.
Time stands still when he has the ball which is a gift from the football gods that not many possess.
He definitely goes under the radar but the thing that stands out most for me is his hardness at the ball amd amazing durability despite his courage.
I look forward to reading many more messages on this thread in the next week as we celebrate #mundy3hundy.

Although commonly acknowledged as a 'big body mid' I didn't realise just how big he is - everyone raves about the beast Nat Fyfe developed into, but when I saw Mundy and Fyfe together I noticed that Mundy is several hands bigger, like a Clydesdale amongst the thoroughbreds (in a good way) :thumbsu:

Fantastic effort from Mundy- wonder how many miles he's clocked playing out of Freo for so long?

Perth to Melbourne return is 5,400 kms.
Perth to Sydney return is 6,560 kms
Perth to Brisbane return is 7,200 kms
Perth to Adelaide return is 4,262 kms
Melbourne to Geelong is 150 kms.

Mundy has clocked over 1.5 million kms in his football career. How many kms does he run per match? Let's say 11 kms per match

1,506,636.34 km!

To the moon and back! Twice!

Awesome game from Mundy yesterday - crowd went bananas when he kicked the goal from 55 metres out.

He turned the game Saturday night.

A 30 second burst of play when he cleaned up Mitch Wallis at half back and then received a handball kicking a running goal from 50m completely turned the game on its head.
