Have to hope that what is said behind closed doors at Carlton (and one would expect it is) is vastly different to what our captain (Cripps) said yesterday regarding effort .
If the coach and this group believe they are giving there best effort we are cooked .

As its clear it is not there this group is soft and lazy defensively of which the coach has to bear the brunt of the blame for this with his game plan .
And we are not going to rectify it if some home truths and admissions are not made within the group both behind closed doors and publicly .

Only way to go right now is to keep dropping underperforming big name players the start was Murphy next in line should be Martin and Williams and maybe even Docherty .

A review was announced they had a week off to prepare for the GWS game and they failed the first test of their character .

Lets see how they go with the next test and beyond .

Hard to argue with that vision, leadership/workrate/zero defence/ overpaid non performers Martin/Williams .
Return to sender. You too Saad.
Hey Freo.. we've got a trio fo ya. Whatya got? Any hard scrubbers with a competitive edge? Any who care about their own performances and playing team footy?

There is a common denominator, sadly.

“Play your own game”

“Worry about what you’re doing”

“Be creative”

“I/we believe in you”

Which in itself is fine when the team structures and rules are clear and being followed...

We have no discipline and/or structure. This isn't an artistic endeavour, it's elite team sport.

Liddle wanted Ellis, SOS wanted Eddie back because he knew how popular Eddie is among the indigenous boys around the league and used him as a Judas goat to convince Martin to come to the club. SOS told Liddle where to head in on Ellis, and got Betts back. Liddle probably had Lloyd fudge up something that suggested a conflict of interest, and punted SOS. And in a fit of spite had BSOS punted as well.
Are you sure it was SOS that wanted Eddie? In any case, why was Liddle anywhere near recruitment?

Um, SOS did not want Eddie.

absolutely he is.
and he's just been "sacked"/asked to resign or come to the conclusion that his time at the club that's been home for the last 30 years is over.

regardless of whether he thinks he needs time away, he really does need separation from Collingwood.

He can take up macrame, origami, do some work with disadvantaged youf, further study in transcendental meditation or build a house with his bare hands.

I think he needs time away.

Before anyone says malthouse had a year out and look where that got us... they are very different personalities. Buckley has far more self-awareness, self-discipline etc. MM was in it for vengeance... in hindsight it's pretty clear, vengeance and superannuation.

and the coaching record

Just combining some info. from another thread, as this is where it is most relevant.

We were 10 and 9 under Teague until the Hawthorn game last year (which is finals bound win/loss rate), albeit over 2 "half" seasons.

7 and 15 since (including that loss).

We are a genuine bottom 4 side in the last full season's worth of games (22). Slightly distorted by everyone not playing everyone else during that time, but a pretty significant sample size.

Only North, GC and Hawthorn have won less games since then. Even Adelaide, who had not won a game to that point last season, has won more games than us.

We have gone from a "fringe finals" level of football, to being a bottom 4 level pile of s**t.

This is not game plan related - it is purely and simply effort, intent, motivation, call it want you want - but Teague is not extracting it from the group anymore.

Cripps & Weitering should not be talking to the media, let the performances on field do the talking, great to see Joho Brown & Riewoldt giving some players some home truths, that is the sort of leadership we require to rise again.

Whatever ends up happening with Teague, and I'm still in the camp of thinking he was never given adequate support structures to enable him to succeed, I hope that a lesson has been learned that the appointment of a coach should never be based on who the players and supporters decide that they want.

Our next coach needs to be the person considered best capable of leading us down a successful path. It shouldn't be a popular vote.

Will you at least let me put in a "no" vote for Lyon?

Can't agree that it's not game-plan related.
The game plan in Teague's 19 games was tweaked from Bolton's, and was pretty successful. But it has changed since then, is unsustainable, and is a big part of the reason that we are so poor now.

Docherty should be the plus one and directing the backline. Can't do that if he is playing on the wing and we got an unfit Williams who was suppose to play midfield can't even play midfield.

Don't like Teague's gameplan of just run and dash. Doesn't utilise Cripps strengths as more contested stuff and just makes him run and other players into the ground. If we look at the vision its clearly in the mindsight of the players is to "trust your teammate to win" and you get out into space. This isn't lazy, this has been coached. If everyone had this mindsight so many players get so loose in defense because you have to quickly relocate your man.

Should be stripped back into the basics. Stretch the ground and look for the switch and go for the 45s (inboard kicks/retains the footy and stops us doing all the chasing) when it opens. If it doesn't open, go down the line and reset where we can get one of the best stoppages players to win the ball back. Play a +1 behind a ball-up moving a defender to be the quarter back and have a half-fwd roll up fwd to the stoppage to minimise/neutralise their spare.
