David Warner

Yeah, the more astute, legible posters called it and it was obvious the penalty they were sanding I mean handing down was going to be harsh. After all, they're highly paid pros with huge endorsements, image is the most important thing. That said, yeah, the series has been ugly and I'm sure the tensions played a part. At the end of the day, Dave-o let the hate flow through him, used his aggressive feelings and gave in to the dark side of the ball, but unfortunately the scales of lady justice do not tip in your favour simply for believing you're getting square. I agree that they're human beings and, in spite of everything, I don't want to see him being torn to shreds when he gets back. Both he and Smith, I view them as I do people who have to door knock for work, I heap disdain upon their actions and froth at their disturbances yet can't help but empathise with the sad humanity of their plight.

The only thing that was going to get rid of him, even bad form wasnt going to get rid of him.

You've been a long-time critic of Warner's Bradesmaen. Would you care to provide us with an overview of your thoughts on him as a player and his final legacy? The longer the better - I am genuinely interested in seeing what you have to say about him.

(His personality is irrelevant; pretty much everyone thinks that he's a tosspot.)

The mental health state of Warner, Bancroft and Smith is an important issue. Their partners are already copping abuse from flogs on social media. Hopefully the players will get all the support they need.

Exactly right. They all screwed up big time and no-one can say Warner didn't have it coming to him but I don't want to see anyone hounded to the point where their well-being suffers.

Pitches? Oh you mean the things that both teams have an equal opportunity to play on and which a coin toss decides who gets best use of?
Oh yeah awesome comparison.
Really? India once prepared two pitches just before a match. One if if Dennis Lillee played, and one if he didn't

History and public sentiment will be much kinder to Smith than Warner. I'm even surprised now that the venom hasn't turned more to Warner and away from Smith.

Smith showed poor leadership and poor judgement.

Warner was responsible for the whole thing. I honestly think David Warner will need to move overseas permanently. America awaits.

Feels like everyone are using this incident to sink the boots into Warner, seems lots of people, both in the media, public and the team don't like him. At this stage it's hard to see him playing Test cricket again but time can heal wounds, and if he's in good form and we're struggling to find an opener you never know.

I think you are thinking of the time in Pakistan when Australia were out training and Lillee pretented he was injured so the Pakis would choose the pitch that had a bit of grass on it. Lillee ran in to bowl at training and went down in a screaming heap, pretending he had done his knee. Everyone rushed to him and Australia said he was gone and they were flying over Ashley Mallett to replace him. They hoped the Pakis would chose the pitch with a bit of grass on it. But the Pakis worked out that Lillee was faking it and they chose the grassless pitch anyway. Lillee played and took about 0/300.

I agree its absolutely pissweak. Sachin Tendulkar got a suspended match penalty. And no-one did anything about England's outrageous pitches last two Ashes series. Thats more cheating than marking up a ball. The rules on cheating in cricket are pissweak. I wouldnot be sur[prised if Smith and the others challenge.

What was wrong with the pitches in England? They were good test match pitches. That it showed up how average our players are who bat on flat decks in Australia and look like God’s is hardly cheating.
Cheating would be more like CA directing curators to prepare roads for money purposes. Oh that’s right, that’s what we do in Australia.

Dumb post, obviously not an Aussie fan with that bs.

Get over yourself, I was replying to a stupid post that said England was cheating preparing bowling wickets and responded with we are cheating preparing batting wickets. None of it is cheating it is cricket.

It's because it's turned out he's a massive hypocrite which could be the main factor.

I don't recall that, not saying it didn't happen because Hookey was that kind of player for sure.

West Indies U19 toured in '88 and played a game at North Sydney Oval. Heaps of people turned up to watch one Brian Lara, there is a story that Hookey was pissed, sitting on the hill abusing the shit out of Lara while he was batting.
Played in a game against Hookey ( hit the ball hard) He was batting with Greg Matthews ..as the fielding side we were amazed at the abuse coming Hookeys way from Matthews..re taking singles etc. Go figure.

Another time 2pitches were prepared the aussies put out a press release saying Lillee had gone home.
His name appeared on the game sheet 30 minutes before the start of play after the creases had been painted.
The Pakistani groundsman was ordered to scrub out the creases and repaint them on the dead pitch 4 metres away.
Thus delaying the start of a test.
Pakistanis cheated with the best of them.

Hookey was probably trying to run him out.

One very good/elite sportsman said to me "if you are not cheating you are not trying" Probably the fairest of sportsman I have met and represented Australia in his sport..I think he was saying everyone pushes the envelope to win!
