Anyone watch the Davis Cup this morning?? It's a pain in the a$$ with it being on so early, but I set my alarm for 1am and watched Lleyton Hewitt and Pat Rafter.

Well done to Lleyton, and a great effort by Pat... I don't think he will be able to play on Sunday night, which is such a shame.

Let's hope the doubles team can win tonight!

when there's no footy season on, tennis is a great sport to watch.

Lleyton Hewitt you little champ ! A pour south aussie !!!!!!

Essendon - The greatest club with the greatest coach in the league ! Carlton- absolute hypocrites who accuse others of being cheats only for it to be found later that carlton are the "serial salary cap breachers" as quoted by our president, haha

Watch a match meg!! Lleyton kept fighting after a shocking start and pulled of an amazing win. I'm just waking up after watching the whole Hewitt match, didn't get to bed 'til 4:00. It was worth it though, magnificent stuff.

Fantastic effort by Lleyton Hewitt.

As much as he annoys people with some of his antics, you can't question someone who plays with that amount of passion for his country.

He has been suffering from respiratory problems and had to play not only Albert Costa but 12,000 screaming Spanish supporters that were whistling in between serves.

Great effort. Even if he is a crows supporting South Australian.

Ant, I fell asleep during the 3rd set of the Rafter/Ferrero game which was about 7:15am. So like you I slept a fair way into the afternoon today.

I didn't even know the Davis Cup tie started early Saturday Morning as I thought it was going that be on the next day. But no worries there was a replay on C7 sports at around 12 o'clock so I didn't miss anything.

Good question RF#1, but he should be able to play since it was just cramps. Puts a lot of pressure now on the doubles team and Lleyton. Can't wait for it to start......

Just wondering about the policy for the Davis Cup, if a player has to forfit the game due to injury - does that game go automatically to the other side?

If thats the case, Australia needs Hewitt and the doubles team to win, so the series is 3-2 in Australia's favour.

I think if the match has already started then it is forfeited otherwise you can replace the player. But the way things are shaping up Hewitt and the doubles team would both have to win for us to hold up the Davis Cup.

Depends on who is named in the squad.
Fromberg and Illie are Clay court specialists. So either of them would be better than an injured Rafter.
Would be nice if Philly had made him self available for Australia, instead of holidaying.

Ron - Thinking likewise. He played so well in France last year and It was so disheartening to hear he didnt make himself avaliable to represent his country.

There's always 2001 to look forward to.

you have to be joking ! philippoussis is an absolute wuss ! Lleyton Hewitt is a fine example of our great davis cup glories through history, gutsy, and with his country being put first ! unlike phillipoussis who is as soft as butter and pulls out with the slightest little problem, whats he doing while the davis cup is on ?...... dying his hair blonde ! what a joke !!!!!

So the scud injures a knee, gets absoloutly savaged by the press and so called teamates. Came back to play once before after he had been snubbed by Roche at the US open finals (Newk to but to a lesser extent) and one the bloody thing for us.

Id tell them to stick it where the sun dont shine as well after that sort of treatment.

I still hope they win the cup, but to put ANY blame at Philipoussis is totally wrong. Newkcombe and Roche made that clear when selecting favourites a few years back.

It's going to be tough now to win from 1-2 down, what I can't believe is the unsportsmanlike behaviour from the crowd and Spanish players sitting on the sideline.

Aussie - the clapping and jeering whenever an Australian does a fault or an error on court? I guess since they are professional players they should be able to block those sounds and distractions from their minds.

I have never been as angry watching tennis as I was watching the doubles. The crowd was a disgrace. They should NEVER be allowed to hold a Davis cup tie again until the problem is fixed.

Grear match between Lleyton and Ferrero, a pity we lost. But Lleyton as usual showed great courage and in no way did he disgrace himself. Well the Davis Cup now belongs to Spain, so next year we will have to take it back

The Davis Cup is a bit of a Joke.

The lengths the 'home' team goes to to win the tie is becoming farcical.

Remember how thet russuan guy was howled down when He dared to suggest the rugby ground in brisbane was 'unsuitable' for tennis ? He had a bit of a point but now out guys are bellyaching because the spaniards went one better. If they keep doing this where will it end ?

It smells like hypocrisy to me
