Was no where to be seen . Apart from the one mark when the ball went high in the air he did nothing. Got about 5 touches all together mainly when he went to defence. He isnt going to get the cheap kicks as a forward like he does in defence. He also played alot of the game with the 2 guys they had that couldnt come on. Bring back Walker and Davis is out cause he aint better than our 3 other tall defenders. If Bock goes and Davis replaces him we will have a slow defence. Sorry but dont rate Davis like all the others on here.

Turn it up mate,

Davis played A LOT of footy up forward in his junior days.

He went missing at times today but he's in his first year and he's had quiet games this year in defence anyway. Thought we did some nice things as well - the blind turn, some terrific grabs in contested situations and his first goal. His hands were really sticky today.

If the club has any sense they'll keep playing him up there on a regular basis. I am a big fan of him as a defender but if a bloke as talented as Phil can play well up forward, you don't not advantage of that.

Interesting conspiracy, but Birdman won't be fit till round 22 so maybe Davis will be allowed to stink it up next week, then drop him for Birdman :p

Two possibilities present themselves:

Davis out, Hentschel in like for like for one last look.

Davis out, Griffin in, Sellar goes forward.

He did some very nice things today and shouldnt be immediately ruled out as a foward prospect, although with tippet and tex likely to come back in I dont see room for davis up foward

Early days CC. Whilst he shouldnt be ahead of Walker, lets not right him off as a forward. It was merely an experiment, and whilst he is not yet ready as a forward but I wouldnt say from that one game that he 'is not a forward'.

I feared everyone on bf coming on here and targeting Davis just because Walker was dropped. That's not Davis' fault. All we can hope for is that all our youngsters progress.

Davis had a quiet day, but did some really could things.

True ,then at least Craigy can say that he gave Davis 2 weeks and then have no blood on his hands when the Birdman comes in.

I don't agree with this at all. It was his first game up forward at AFL level so it pretty harsh to make this statement after one game. I've seen him play football up forward and believe me he is a natural forward who is extremely good at taking contested marks and a very good goal kicker. The games i saw him up forward he was sensational.

I suppose Walker is not here today to bag so why not bag another young kid.

Firstly, Davis will be a very good footballer for the club.

The decision to drop Walker to play Davis in the forward line was an absolute stinker.

Id be tempted to rest Rutten or Stevens next week in order to give Davis another run in the backline.

Davis didn't do much up forward, agreed. A couple of nice things but that was it.

That doesn't mean he's not a forward though.

All that means is that a young tall in his first season of AFL footy playing for the first time at this level in the most difficult position on the ground showed that he's got a lot to learn if he he's going to play that position on a regular basis.

Nothing surprising about that, I would have thought.

Davis was non-existent in the first and third quarters. did some nice things...and by some, i mean he had about 3 good moments.

Sellar in the forward line was a better experiment, only difference, Sellar has been playing ruck/forward in SANFL. wouldn't have minded an experimentation to see where McKernan fits into our side.

He had 1 touch as a forward and got a fifty metre penaly to get his first goal. What game were you watching . He took a good mark by keeping his eye on the ball and that spin around on the wing. Woopy do. Find the ball is what he needs to do and create run and burst out of packs.

is the OP serious? davis is nineteen yet the expectation was for him to take the game by the scruff of the neck playing the toughest position on the field? you think one game is a more than adequate sample size to dismiss his prospects as a key forward?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

it is premature to categorically say where davis will spend the majority of his career.

Not fussed, we needed him in the side after Walker being dropped and Bock is taking his spot. That wont be a problem next year.
unless Bock moves to GC, both Walker and Bock should be in the starting 22 next year... how is that not a problem next year.

CHB was always Bock's spot for him to reclaim once he wasn't injured anymore. Walker in poor form gets dropped for an experimentation of Davis in the forward line, instead of trialling McKernan who has been in decent SANFL form and plays up forward.

An unfortunate call after one week. Thought Davis did a couple of nice things, particularly his blocking in marking contests for Tippett. He did look like he struggled to find his role up forward, but that's hardly surprising.

It's the end of our season and important for us to have a look at different players particularly at the expense of non performing players.

Walker, Tippett, Hendo and Jaensch were just finding form and getting to understand each other and their forward line setup. disappointing we won't see them together again till next year.
Everytime the ball entered our forward line, it was bombed to a pack for Tippo. Not even Tex would have done much more with that type of delivery
Walker makes leads, which is usually the other option to look for.

Watch out next week if Davis kicks a goal or two early. Craigy will rush him down to the backline at lightspeed so he doesn't stuff up his plan.

we get it, Davis did some or all of the following to you:
- beat you up at school (my guess)
- stole your toys from your pram
- scruffed your mum and/or dad

do we always need to have new threads proving how much you hate this guy for non footballing reasons?

Davis is a natural defender (full stop) and he is no more a forward than Walker is a defender

lets just play the lad in the role that he will play his best footy

I've still got my money on video taping himself giving CroCrop's sister an 'Angry Pirate' and then sent it to him.

I think he even spliced it with CroCrop's favorite movie, and just when Harry and Sallya re about to hook up, Davis begins the Pirate procedure.

1 game doesn't make him a failure. Not forgetting he's a baby who's played a handful of AFL games. Not sure what Bock had done at a similar age... wasn't even on a list.

It's also worth mentioning it's not Walker does with the ball... it's what he's doing when he hasn't got it. Something the stat book doesn't tell. He's unlucky Walker... but life goes on.

Beggers belief people even mention Burton like he's a chance to return like they wish it was true. Kindergarten stuff init.
