I don't have any of their dob, but Dyson Sharp looks very mature for a 15 year old, he looks like a grown man.
He is one of only two at that age on the day and both played for SA, the other was Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier. In the day before Zeke Uwland brother of Bodhi for Suns also a year younger had something like 39 touches playing half back.

This is a great resource thanx

There are always a couple of under-age in all tournaments who step up and play well, I think Dyson Sharp is top tier though, this is my 1st u16 tournament, so I'm wondering how much they change before their draft year? and with a lot of the KPP it goes down to development of their craft and whether they grow to 195cm+

It’s very rare for bottom agers to play 16s champs the last two who did back before Covid where also from SA Tyrell Martin and Tyson Coe with neither looking like getting drafted this year.

I’m expecting Sharp will get drafted in his draft year though he looked impressive.

Unfortunately I don’t think shifter is as knowledgeable as he use to be.

Yep.

He started losing it after the Pendlebury, Dusty, Fyfe, Bont and Cripps comparisons were being thrown around ad nauseum.

McKenzie got 3 more disposals, but Ashcroft not only had poss, but most of his were in the coal face having to manoeuvre through groups of mids and rucks and find space which is more impactful than getting a handball receive or a loose ball, also a handball in traffic hitting someone free is better than a hack kick, its all context, i scored Hewett 23, Ashcroft 18 and McKenzie 16 in my personal ranking system(the top 3), i dont care about disposals, unless its after the fact and im trying to separate players who i rank similarly.
Would be interested to hear what your rating system is, if you're willing to share

Love your work Davo, I have my rankings system too in which disposals are not counted and funny enough (my scoring system is higher due to the many factors I count up) I had Hewett 46, Ashcroft 40, McKenzie 35, Jefferson 35, Davey/Weddle/Jones/Ginbey all equal on 30 points.
How does your ratings system work (if you are happy to share)?

when watching a game, i note down every good decision, good disposal, intercepting poss/mark, winning a turnover(tackle) or goal a player has kicked and give them a point for it (an example of what i dont pay a point for - turn overs, bad decisions like hospital handballs, hack kicks that arent centre clearances, handballs to peoples feet, chipping the ball sideways 15-20m and kickins ect), its more accurate than looking at how many disposals players have as in the junior levels you cant rely on that as much, it can be a pain in the butt, but it gives good results(i have been keeping the results to myself but i have shared them in the past and i even did it for Hawthorns pre-season games). after games i feel like i was a statistician, it can be draining when you do 3-4 games in a day, i dont really do it when i goto games live though, because i cant rewind the tape to find the identity of a player and i might miss plays trying to find a player who did something good previously.

i also have to read the way they move, are they athletic?, do they kick well? ect, this is separate to the point system, its a balance

Allies 73-61 WA

ordinary game, a lot of WA players have gone backwards since last years u17's series against SA, Hewett seemed out of touch and out of energy, looked like he was playing sick or something? probably cost WA the victory he is that big of an influence on the WA team.

Allies:

Jaspa Fletcher - had a great game, was Allies best player in their win imo
Angus Anderson - also a strong game for the Allies
Jake Rogers - looks fantastic for 2023 draft
Jed Walters - kicked a bag and was handy in the forward line

mentions - Edwards, Gillbee, McCallum, Leary, Rowston, Lawrence, Cowan

WA:

Reuben Ginbey - was probably the best player on the ground in a losing team
Jedd Busslinger - intercepted all day, was great with the rebound from d50
Darcy Jones - speedy and clever in the contest, lifted when needed
Jed Hagan - kicked a couple goals and worked hard throughout the game
Sam Gilbey - ran off hbf all game, added game breaking run, back to his best, but still not reaching the u17 series heights
Corey Trengenza-Cashell - kicked 4 and had 1 robbed off of him, provided a good target up forward

mentions - Carbone, Tholstrup, Julian, Green, Gathercole, Michael, Cleaver, Bevan

How you going Davo?
Have you watch much of the U16’s and if so , where do you see Will McCabe going next year in the draft?
Cheers

pretty sure he is in the 2024 draft and as a 16 year old very hard to line up this early
he is quite tall, i think i heard someone recently say 197cm? he was probably the best defender in the u16's playing as an over ager, needs to fill out physically, he is quite skinny, very quick for a big man which is good and very brave and competitive, influences a lot of contests and intercept marks well, very good aerially and his run and carry for a big man is Heath Chapman-esque(Frem Pick 14), was the MVP for SA in the u16's champs, i have him easily in the top 30 somewhere for the 2023 draft.

Why is he playing in the u16s if he’s the 2023 draft? If he’s not good enough to make the u18 squad is he really a top 30?

He and Xavier Walsh from WA honestly would be better options than some of the players currently playing in each side in the 18s champs.

i think SA has enough tall strong defenders in Bennier, Deakin and Michaelanny in their draft years, who would be better for structure and so couldnt fit him in as an underager for the u18's.

Tom McCallum has previously tested the best atheletically out of this year's tassie prospects on top of having a very solid champs and NAB league. Would think he would go somewhere in the top 50, but might be one of those unlucky Tassie players that gets overlooked and has to move to SA to get noticed!

Will Cowan should be a top 40 pick. Has some things to work on, he is pretty brave and clean below his knees, but decision making can be an issue at time and has a good long kick, but his short kicking can go awry.

Be interested to see if Seth Campbell goes! Needs to bulk up, was disappointed he wasnt used in the middle for the Allies, didnt have much opportunities come his way in some of those games. He was only "meh" in the champs.

good to see Chad Warner doing well for Sydney, he was one i liked a lot in his drat year.

rank groupings update:

Elite: Will Ashcroft, George Wardlaw(2)

Top Tier: Harry Sheezel, Isaac Keeler, Jhye Clark, Elijah Tsatas, Elijah Hewett, Aaron Cadman, Mattaes Phillipou, Jedd Busslinger, Cam McKenzie, Matthew Jefferson, Mitch Szybkowski, Adam D'Aloia, Reuben Ginbey, Brayden George, Anthony Munkara. (15)

AFL Qualities: Oliver Hollands, Tom McCallum, Jacob Konstanty, Harry Lemmey, Harry Barnett(more KPD than ruck), Jaspa Fletcher, Al Davey Jnr, Lewis Hayes, Kobe Ryan, Olivier Northam, Callum Verrell, Jed Hagan, Lachlan Cowan, Bailey Humphrey, Luke Teal, Henry Hustwaite, Tom Scully, Darcy Jones, Jason Gillbee, Rye Penny, Charlie Clarke, Caleb Mitchell, Ted Clohesy, Will Dowling, Olli Hotton, Coby Burgiel, Josh Weddle, Shadeau Brain, Jayden Davey (29)

i think the top 17 or so are really strong this year, its a good crop, the 1st round should be filled with talent and i wouldnt be surprised if 1 drifted to the early 2nd round as happens every year.
