Yes, it was a full reconstruction IIRC.

If he gets over it, it will be a huge plus for the Pies. Having said that, it is a big gamble, hopefully for you guys it pays off.

He will be out all 2007, and will probably play 2008. There are plenty of players that have played better after reconstructions, such as Lade from Port and Smith from Hawthorn. I'm sure there are more, but they are off the top of my head. The Collingwood medical staff just need to take every precaution necessary and not rush him, and I am sure that they will do exactly that.

Licuria isn't bad for a guy who had 2 knee reconstructions some time prior to being drafted. He is the proof that hard work matters most for success.

Dawes did the full reconstruction, but I'm sure he will come back fitter as well considering his age.

Ahh yes, forgot about Licuria. Not a star, but a very good player nonetheless...shows that it is most definitely possible to perform very well at the highest level even after knee reconstructions.

As I have said, as long as he is looked after with the utmost care by the Pies, which I am sure he will be, he should be fine.

What Coin Toss said. He is rated highly as a key forward, expected to help fill a void of Taz, but is a good kick. Can move up the ground or be a stay at home forward, and is a big lad.

A knee reco is obviously a big negative, but we will wait and see.

If Dawes works out it will be a big plus for us,however i hope he doesn't languish in the reserves for 24 months and doesn't become the could have been great player.......Now that would be a complete waste of our pick 28 and with all the talent we let go to pick him up would be a great shame.Only time will tell ,yes time another 2 years to see if we picked the right player.....mmmmmmmmmm i already have my reservations.I really hope i am wrong.

When I was a kid it was Teasdale, Young, Edwards, etc, etc, etc.

Make no mistake we have taken a big gamble in what is supposed to be the best draft ever. Who knows if we could have lessened the gamble by waiting for a later round. What we do know is that we have a player that was never a given in the first place and he know has to overcome a knee reco before he can take his place among the hopefuls and develop into a player.

Tom Davidson's knee reco's never came unstuck.

It was his natural knees that were weak - He did one and then the other. Never had an injury on either of his reconstructed knees.

Rhyce Shaw and Tarkyn Lockyer haven't experienced further problems from their knee reconstructions either.

I can't think of anyone in the last 5 years that has had a knee reco and then done the same knee again.

I'm sure i read Hine saying that the Pies medical staff were 100% sure of his knee holding up. Dont know how you can be 100% sure but im not a doctor.

The 2nd one was his other knee though - I mean, when both of your knees blow out on you, it has to impact you mentally.

However, both of his knee reconstructions held up - Don't think he had anymore problems.

Don't disagree it is a risk I was simply arguing Marks point that he wasn't a given before the knee injury even though he has stated that he knows nothing about the players. From what I have heard(although I won't pretend to be an expert because I aint)he probably was a given.
But while where on the topic and don't have a problem with using pick 28 on a player recovering from a reco if he is good enough. People like Mark and youself want the club to have the best list in the comp but don't want to take risks, I respect your opinions but simply don't agree with all of them . I can absolutely tell you in any industry including football you do not get to the top by being conservative. you have to be prepared to take the odd risk. The saints overlooked judd because they thought it was to big a risk. With judd in 05 they may well have knocked off the swans and won the flag. Perhaps the club feels that his upside is so big that should he make a full recovery he could be a marque player. Since Hine has come in he has taken risks Like Rusling, thomas, Pendles that he was strongly criticised as they were considered risks and they all look pretty good to me. I think Hine has been exceptional in his recruiting over the last 3 drafts and have total faith in him.

No need to lump Timmy in with me. He isn’t on my scale of current pessimism, as you might put it, just yet. I used to be pretty optimistic about our list. My current pessimism is born of results and frustration with long running list deficiencies that have not been addressed. We lost a grand final, did little to cover the deficiencies that may have med the difference, got smashed in the areas or vulnerability a year later and then fell apart after that. In 2007, with as close to a fully fit list as you are likely to get and a pretty good draw, we finished 7th and we have a number of key players about to retire or at least on the downhill side of their performances.

My issue with whom we drafted has more to do with an apparent assessment of the likely types available at our picks (KPPs) yet we failed to trade to address deficiencies that we foresaw couldn’t be remedied in the draft. This is a long running problem. I therefore lack confidence in those in charge of managing the list. Primarily that is the coach but not only the coach. Add to that what I believe to be other flaws in the coach’s skill set and his position is just another in the list of tolerated inadequacies. Contrast that to the president’s often quoted “nothing but the best for Collingwood”.

Exceptional is a bit strong. I have no real complaints on his talent assessment overall but we have had picks 7 (downtraded to 10), 2, 5, 8, 10 in those 3 drafts before you even consider the second round. We SHOULD have a good crop from that. When you think of the picks we have had since the late 90’s we SHOULD have the best list in the comp. We have finished last, second last x 2 and forth last. We have spent more than our share of time at the arse end of the ladder yet we clearly don’t have even one of the best lists let alone the best.

We are in this to won flags not to be competitive. Being satisfied with being competitive is not good enough and as a long suffering Collingwood supporter I am fed up with it.

luke darcy, round 6 2005 against the cats at kadinia park, and then did the same knee again in traning just before christmas 05'. it was his right knee both times.
