Licuria isn't bad for a guy who had 2 knee reconstructions some time prior to being drafted. He is the proof that hard work matters most for success.
Dawes did the full reconstruction, but I'm sure he will come back fitter as well considering his age.

Ahh yes, forgot about Licuria. Not a star, but a very good player nonetheless...shows that it is most definitely possible to perform very well at the highest level even after knee reconstructions.
As I have said, as long as he is looked after with the utmost care by the Pies, which I am sure he will be, he should be fine.
So back to back best and fairests makes you an average player.![]()
Tom Davidson's knee reco's never came unstuck. If Lee Walker had come good, if Tom Davidson had come good….
I'm sure i read Hine saying that the Pies medical staff were 100% sure of his knee holding up. Dont know how you can be 100% sure but im not a doctor.
The 2nd one was his other knee though - I mean, when both of your knees blow out on you, it has to impact you mentally.dont forget tom davidson had come back from a knee reco to play his 1st game... at which stage malthouse had labeled him a future 200gamer. poor bloke i think the 2nd one was more of a mental thing.

When I was a kid it was Teasdale, Young, Edwards, etc, etc, etc.
Make no mistake we have taken a big gamble in what is supposed to be the best draft ever. Who knows if we could have lessened the gamble by waiting for a later round. What we do know is that we have a player that was never a given in the first place and he know has to overcome a knee reco before he can take his place among the hopefuls and develop into a player.
You could wake up dead tomorow!Mmmm! I have heard of people given the all clear from the doctor and die the next day.
You could wake up dead tomorow!
On another thread you have admitted you know nothing about the players drafted and now you are saying he wasn't a given in the first place. The kid was CHF in the vic metro team and from all reports played very well in the champs. Obviously no kid outside the top 10-15 is a given but I suspect he was as close to a given as you could get before the reco. I think alot of your points have some merit Mark but you are the ultimate pessimist.
It doesnt matter whether he was a given prior to his injury. He went into the draft with his injury, and that is the player we drafted. An injured player. I agree with Mark, its a massive risk to take him that high, when there were plenty of quality mids and rucks available at 28.
We've sacrificed an awful lot to draft a bloke with a total knee reconstruction. Its a huge gamble. Perhaps we should have picked him later, and if he fell to another club, bad luck.
Exceptional is a bit strong. I have no real complaints on his talent assessment overall but we have had picks 7 (downtraded to 10), 2, 5, 8, 10 in those 3 drafts before you even consider the second round. We SHOULD have a good crop from that. When you think of the picks we have had since the late 90’s we SHOULD have the best list in the comp. We have finished last, second last x 2 and forth last. We have spent more than our share of time at the arse end of the ladder yet we clearly don’t have even one of the best lists let alone the best.I think Hine has been exceptional in his recruiting over the last 3 drafts and have total faith in him.
No need to lump Timmy in with me. He isn’t on my scale of current pessimism, as you might put it, just yet. .
A year or two. You've given me way too much of a headstart.
luke darcy, round 6 2005 against the cats at kadinia park, and then did the same knee again in traning just before christmas 05'. it was his right knee both times.Tom Davidson's knee reco's never came unstuck.
It was his natural knees that were weak - He did one and then the other. Never had an injury on either of his reconstructed knees.
Rhyce Shaw and Tarkyn Lockyer haven't experienced further problems from their knee reconstructions either.
I can't think of anyone in the last 5 years that has had a knee reco and then done the same knee again.
