Many forget that he was the leading CHF in the TAC cup before he went down with an ACL. We picked a gem, hoping that he would get over his reco both physically and mentally.

By all reports he seems to have full faith his body and is playing confidently and well, could he be that missing link the post Anthony Rocca dominant forward??

I may be a pessimist, but I am waiting for him to get it done at senior level. You can dominate VFL games all you want, but the big league is a different story (see Danny Stanley and Sam Iles). Sure, I understand that he has hardly been given a run, but you have to take your chances, exactly what Danny Nicholls, Iles and Stanley didnt do!

Don't get me wrong, he has the size to be our CHF for the next 10 years, which I would love to see. But does he have the strength, skill and class? I sure hope so!! Go pies!

I remember when he was playing his first tentative games down at VFL level a few years ago, and one of our coaches stated that due to the knee injury, it would take him an extra 2 years to reach anywhere near his full potential.

He is well on schedule, although last year he didn't improve at the pace most wanted him to, he is now developing into the player we all want him to become.

He is a massive part of our future, I simply see our future forward line consisting of 3 talls, Anthony, Cloke and Dawes, and can't see why this won't happen.

He now needs to be tested at AFL level, it is time, with Jack struggling and Fraser not giving us anything up forward, it is DAWESOME time.:thumbsu:

Give him 3 games minimum (Essendon, Carlton and North) and simply see what he can do, if he struggles, back to the VFL for more "development", but if he succeeds on any level, boy will our forward line start to look dangerous.

Last week he showed at Vic Park that on an AFL standard surface and in good conditions he is as good a kick for goal as we have at the club, regarding both distance and accuracy.

Must play this week, more so because he has earnt the right, then anything else, but also because Jack struggling/injured gives him a "window of opportunity".

Play him now.:D:thumbsu:

Ralu, every player drafted has the same question mark hanging over their head. You just dont know...my biggest concern with players with such injuries is whether a) the body recovers and b) will the mind recover...it seems to be so.

Matty is right in that you HAVE to reward players with such good form, especially since our talls arent kicking as many goals as they should.

TAC cup form is a hell of a lot different than AFL form or even VFL form for that matter. Dawes performances at TAC level shouldn't even be brought into any debate about his relevance to the team now.

I too am a bit of a Dawes sceptic but I agree with the sentiment that he deserves a chance in the seniors. This is a combination of his promising form and the lack of it from his competitors for that spot in the senior 22. I'm most impressed by the fact he seems to have improved - even if it's just a bit - his overhead marking.

But lets not get carried away with his VFL form. It's been good, not outstanding. To expect Dawes to all of a sudden become the new Rocca is totally unrealistic. They both have very different game styles and strengths. Yes Dawes probably deserves a chance, but lets not go too far with our expectations.

He needs to be given games in the seniors to see if he makes the grade. If he does, great keep him on and give him games to develop. If not then delist him at years end and stop spending time and resources on a player who seems to be a permanent fixture in the VFL.

This year could be the year that people shut the hell up about Kurt Tippett, who incidentally has already been traded out of most people's SC teams.

It helped he was built like a Man against Kids - That does Help.

But he has shown some Consistency this season early on and was the Main reason of our VFL Comeback win yesterday

Very Well Said and as you say the Knee Reco can Set You back 1-2 Years in your development.

He need more than 1-2 games in the Seniors I would like 5+ Games in a row

He was marking everything yesterday in the last quarter

Well I am not expecting Miracles here but I think he can still kick 2-3 goals a game and set up a few more

I am a fan and I think he would be able to keep Dustin "I play as long as I can pick up the 6th forward" Fletcher either honest or show him up to not be honest.

If he kicks 3 and gives off 3 which I think he does too much then that would be a great game for a forward. It would also mean that Fletcher does not get cheap marks against Leon or Medders. he will take some heat off Travis who except for his kicking has been good this year.

I feel sorry for Leroy but its time to play at Victoria Park and get a bit of culture and history.

I went down there yesterday. Paid particular attention to Dawesome and whether he was ready to become a permanent fixture in the seniors. He lead well, market strongly when contested, made space for crumbers and most importantly was pretty accurate.

He ahd real prescence in the forward line. I think he is just about ready.
