Eagle stands out because he is bald.

What the??? Peter Street stands out because he is tall. Ryan Griffen stands out because he looks like one of the Beatles. Brad Johnson stands out because well he is Brad Johnson and he wears no. 6. Anyone who is a dogs supporters knows the players that play for them - it makes no difference whether they are bald, tall, skinny, fat etc. etc - so I don't know how he stands out.

One of the funniest posts of the year.

From the Draft & trading thread on 29th August.

Scooter600x three weeks ahead of the rest.

Only I put his name up after considering his season, our needs and Freo's needs.

Benno put his name up in a knee-jerk reaction to one performance
Did I beat you Scooter? Posted that on the 23rd of August. http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?p=5705130&highlight=Eagleton#post5705130

I think the reason we have all come up with Eagleton as possible trade bait is because of all our runners which are so important to us he is the oldest one that we can afford to give up. My opinion on him is that we can put him on the table to see what we get offered but by no means would I look at delisting him. He has still had a good year and is worth a bit on the market IMO. No way we would just delist him.

He had an awful night against West Coast but was coming off an injury. He is still well and truly in our best 22 and at 28 still has a number of years at the top level. If we lose him it will be through a trade not a delisting. Eagleton is a better player than many former premiership players Benno so I dont think that argument stands up.

True.

In fact, I dare say if Scotty West kicked a goal from 60 it would look better than if Eagle did it.

Eagle should run out in a beanie one day. We'd lose him then.

I guess I mean he will not win you one. I know lots of players of average ability play in them and get a medal. Although they are Premiership Players in one context they are not what you might call a Premiership Player, they are rather players that played in a Premeirship team!

Hope that makes sense.

Street won't win us a flag. Nor will Dmac, Robbo, Hargrave, Wight, Addison, Boyd, Monty, etc etc...

De-list them all too?

i think he is great if we are going great. So weight it up I guess.

I would give him away in a deal for Polak (He will help us score)

Fairly or unfairly I just don't rate him. Has he ever been our best in a losing team?
Your wrong, i remember he was BOG against port at TD when willams labeled us headhunters when the rhode to nowhere was still coach.

Eagleton is ok. Whoever is saying to delist him is a ****en idiot.

If you have two better ruckman you probably could. But he is still improving.

Boyd is a better contributor than Eagleton in my opinion. I think Dmac, Addison, wight could develop and bit early to tell. Robbo is nearly finsihed. Hargrave would be fine if he was allowed to take the 4th best defender. Monty proved his ability vs Collingwood.

I can see what you are saying I just disagree with it. Every player on the list contributes to a flag IMO. Whether it be by building the atmosphere in the change rooms or by being a fringe ball carrier in the first 22. We are a club not a team. Every little thing counts. Someone has to play in positions say 15-22 in our side and Eagleton is a very good 15-22 player despite being awful the other night. I liken him to maybe a Schofield playing a key role in Ports 2004 success. Would still trade him for the right offer though.

De-list Benno from Berwick

just kidding :D

but seriously though

i dont know about football but I know what I like

and I like to see nathan's bald head gleaming as he glides toward the 50 meter arc, slings the sherrin on his magical left boot and, and .......you just never know! I love him to bits

he doesnt always cut it, but he is football gold when he does - delisting him or trading him would be foolish - he is in our best 22, every time

also

I dont agree with the whole "lets get this guy" approach to discussion on the bulldogs board - I know they are very much "blood in the water" on the main board (i dont go there much - its like the woods) but here on the bd board we are normally nicer - i like nice, lets all be nice, vigorous and enthusiastic debate yes, baying for someones blood - no thankyou

and lets share our feelings in a respectful and supportive way and knit tea cosies for the disadvantaged

and yes I know, I know, threads to be merged

Re: De-list Benno from Berwick

Can we win a premiership with Benno? I think we can, he still makes our best 22. It's mainly bcos he's bald that you are all pointing him out. No one would notice him if he weren't.

Re: De-list Benno from Berwick

Why would you have such a fanatical view on the issue if you agree that you dont know much about football.

How would you know if it is foolish if he was traded or de-listed ?

Eagleton had a sensational first 10 weeks.

The second half to his season dropped in standard, he played a poor game on Saturday, but those conditions were always going ro be least suited to his game.

Suggestions of trades and de-listings simply don't warrant a response, not sure why i even bothered.

Those who think Eagleton should be delisted and and traded are all nuts. He has been great for again this week and i would never give him away to another club.

I'd happily listen to trade offers for him. Yeah he is a good attacker midfielder but I get the feeling he is holding some others back from moving into the midfield. Surely another one of our midfielders will be able to over take the goal scoring/ inside 50's role that the Eagle plays? Griff perhaps?

He had a very good season. Some of his kicking into the forward line provided Johnno and Robbins with plenty of marks and goals. I think a lot of people undervalue his worth

I am quite happy with Eagleton...sure, he has been a little underdone since his injury, but pre-injury he was playing very well. Would not entertain the notion of delisting him....as for trading him, the idea doesn't sit right with me. I think the Eagle has a lot to offer the Bulldogs.

Eagleton's last 3 seasons have been very good, and I am more than happy to have him stay in '07. However if we were going after a tall and they wanted Eagle as part of the deal, and it was a fair trade I would definatly be willing to give him up.

Scooter600x I have been trying to get rid of Eagleton since they traded Monty away for him.

That sums up your credibility on the issue. How anybody could be trying to get rid of him that whole time particualrly considering his remarkable career turnaround and great 04/05 seasons is astounding. U wanted him gone after his great 04? 05 when he was clearly one of our top 7 or 8 players. He's even had a good 06 and is easily in our best side, and he would get a game at every club in the AFL including the 4 playing this weekend. And the fact u want him delisted and not even trade shows to me you just plain don't like him and have a bias against him.

We play a quick, highly skilled game, Why would we get rid of a speedy, classy, skilled midfielder

You don't win Premierships by delisting your good players.

I thought people had moved on from making Eagle the whipping boy

Talk about a baseless knee-jerk reaction!

Then when the hypothesis put forward is credibly debunked by Pembleton (pointing to his solid performances in years past when the team wasn't travelling well), it ends up in a slanging match!

Eagle does not have a defensive side, but neither do many outside midfielders. Do you also think Eade has erred by putting him into the leadership group?

If he is no 1 for inside 50s again this year, is it another fluke?

Maybe we should trade every player on the list, because we didn't win the premiership this year! Maybe our long term problem isn't re-building, it is chronic under-reacting!

Sheesh, will the rest of the leadership group be shopped around as well?

I would know if it is foolish because it would break my football heart. I dont follow this game with my head! I follow it with my heart, and my blood and my underpants. I follow it because it brings me joy and hope and a chance to pay too much for beer in a plastic cup. I dont really know why I follow it but I know I have to. That is what I know.

I also know that number 10, in certain moments, creates breathtaking acts of footballing grace and purity, acts of a magnitude such that I want to weep.

I have a fanatical view because I am hugely of fond of the way Nathan Eagleton conducts himself. I am President for Life of the recently formed Nathan Eagleton Enthusiasts Association and also a senior Ninja with the top secret Deadly Gleaming Scalp Society. Finally, I play bass and tambourine in the Silky Left Footed Love Meringue (a Nathan Eagleton Cover Band) so I dont know about footy, but I know class when I see it. I see it when I look in the mirror, and I see it when Mrs Eagletons little boy takes the field.

Any questions?
