I have never been keen on players with only one foot.
I assume you mean kicking with one foot - wouldn't want to see Paul McCartney's ex-wife in the draft next year

As an aside, I seem to remember at a family day one year they announced that Simon Beasley was the only player in the side who couldn't kick with either foot. Fair effort from a guy who is our goals record holder.

Simon played 16 years ago.

He played at Full Forward

He marked and kicked goals as well as anyone.

He rarely required his left.

Not a great comparsion I would have thought.

well he did say 'as an aside' so I doubt he was doing a serious comparison.
I don't think listening or reading closely are Benno's strong points (no offence intended)

His time has come.

What can he offer that we need to move in the right direction next year. What does he have that would have him in the top 8 midfielder?

Someone, anyone try to convince me what he has that we need against all others on our list.

isnt eagleton 1 of ur best players? great runner great pace wats wrong with him?

I am sure you meant none! I ressemble that remark.....

I spell poorly too.

As an aside to that I guess midfileders who only have one side of the body can't get away with it as easy as forwards. Beasley got away with it, Lloyd gets away with it.......

Wow, I just read through this whole thread. It was like War and Peace but without the second bit.
Here's a left field solution, we trade Eags for Aker, we give Aker no 10, shave his stupid blonde hair and black goatee off, put him on a wing, tell him if he uses his right foot he's gotta spend the rest of his contract in the big brother house with Lethal, and get him to feed off in and under players or run past guys who've taken a mark 75m out, and have flying shots at goal.
We haven't had a player like that for ages.

Obviously on the 'Eagle is superferlous' bandwagon eh?

I enjoyed the post. Very funny.

No, not at all. I thought his season this year was mostly very good, he occasionally proved his right foot was for more than balance, sometimes even put pressure on the opposition when we didn't have the footy (although not nearly enough). He hurts the opposition and is currently in our best 22, however he certainly isn't untradeable either if a really good deal came along.
I just thought this thread had become a bit hysterical and wanted to join in.:D

Eagle

Whats all this talk about you boys saying we should get rid of eagle?? I great runner and one of the better kicks in the team.

Firstly it was Farren, and now Eagle had a poor 2nd half to the season you now all wanna trade him too? I would say Harris was a bigger liability and a common factor to many goals kicked against us this year.

Whos the next on your hit list? I really dont understand you guys.

And all this talk about Polak....who is he???? Some hack thats played 2 mins of footy in 2006, had numerous off-field problems and you wanna bring him in because he will be the saviour. The guy is a mess and we can all see he doesnt take his football seriously. Chris Tarrent Mark II I say.

Forget Polak, he would be of little benefit..Probably the next Jade Rawlings. REmember Jade was in the top 5 for contested marks in a season too once!

Re: Eagle

Firstly, not everyone on here is a boy.
Secondly, not everyone wants to trade Eagleton - in fact if you read the threads closely you will realise that it is only a small minority.
Thirdly, the only reason Ray was mentioned was that he as yet had not committed to the Dogs and he may have wanted to go home. Now that he seems to want to stay there has been little, if any, discussion about trading him.
Fourthly, it seems you have the next player already on a hit list - Brian Harris.

Re: Eagle

I don't think anyone wants to get rid of him, he still has alot to offer the side. He has just be identified as someone who could be used in a trade if the club went after a tall in trade week.

Points taken.

For any of the fools out there that talk of trading Eagleton.

Eagle had a Hammy in second half of the year. Took some time to get back after that. When you do a hammmy it is damn hard to get confidence in it to go 100% again.

I would suggest to anyone who wants to trading him to get a tape of the Friday night match against Collingwood. Then post and arguement for trading him.

The guy is a match winner with the long range goals. Now Bubba has retired that only leaves Gilbee if we get rid of Eagleton, for that role.

OK, I'll have a crack.

Games like the one you mentioned are exactly the reason we should consider trading him. (Clarifier - if we miss out on Aker, Eagle's off the table).

Eagle is still a very good footballer and blokes with pace who can kick are valuable. IMO he is exactly the kind of player who could help Freo (for example) take the next step. Collingwood are another who could do with some run and skill.

We would still have a good core group of Eagle's type - Ray, McMahon, Cooney, Gia and Aker. Eagle is 28.

You would get (draft pick) change out of a Polak/Eagle trade and I have no doubt we would be a better side with 1 CHF than we are with 6 wingers.

No point trying to trade McGuinness for a CHF - anyone you'll get for him will be rubbish, too.

I am quite distressed at this post. Nathan eagleton is in my opinion a second rung midfielder. He is still a very useful player, and on occasion can be brilliant. The amount of inside fifties he provides are his major quality and his delivery is not to shabby. Those might say in response to this post that we should trade him if the right deal comes along.

I disagree. Eagleton is part of our leadership group, his dedication after coming off heart surgery is an inspiration to the younger players. He has struggled through adversity and has become a clear first team player, and as such is an image of proffesionalism for all who join our club. Also he is an individual who is almost alone in his age bracket in the team(28 years). When Brad Johnson retires Eagle will be one of the most senior players in the club and will have been with us for many years. This makes me come to the conclusion that while he is not an elite player, he is one that inspires team unity and as such should be the future captain of our club.

He should definetly not be traded as not only should he stay with us for the reasons i have stated he would be useless for another club. He would only be a second rung player and would not have the same respect he has earned from the players in our club

I agree with every last word, well put

Are you on the Geelong board?
Did you make Tom Harley captain?

While I agree that Eags is a fine player, I didn't ever spot the "Eagleton for skipper" bandwagon beginning in this thread or anywhere ever. I don't see how you could argue that someone is not an elite player yet should be captain, regardless of what a top bloke he is. He is a player with strengths and limitations, he is expendable if we can improve our team. I don't expect him to be traded as he is still a valuable contributor, but he is not untouchable. In Eade's words, does he have any improvement left in him?
