Dean Bailey in trouble?

If the Crows as a club lose out because of Trigg's actions simply because he was employed by them, then it should be Melbourne that lose out because of Bailey's actions while employed by them, not the Crows. No issue for us really.

Also, this whole saga is a perfect example of why tanking doesn't work. Melbourne have forgotten how to win matches (except against Neil Craig in 2010 apparently!) and don't look like figuring it out any time soon. They have become a basket case.

Pretty much looks like Bailey, the coaching staff and the players were held to ransom

"tank or be sacked"

Not sure how the MFC would have ever thought that this would always remain silent, there was always going to be an ex player, coach or official ready to blow the lid on it once they had left the club

The AFL won't allow anyone to say "but I was backed into a corner, I didn't have a choice". It's the Nuremberg defense - "I was only following orders". It doesn't excuse doing something wrong, you have an obligation to stand up against the wrongdoing otherwise the wrong continues.

I've always been an advocate of giving 9th the number 1 pick and working down the ladder that way

imagine how many #1 picks richmond would have!

also, if i was 9th playing 8th and a win would get me in the finals (last position) and a loss would get me the #1 pick... i think i might go for #1 pick. no one wins the flag from 8th.

i'd be happy if they reverted to a final 5 system.

The AFL also needs to take responsibility for this entire saga as they were the ones who provided the incentive to lose

There are incentives for doing the wrong thing in many aspects of day to day life. There are also penalties for those who choose to go after those incentives and get caught. The AFL's system of priority picks was certainly not one that was well thought out, but IMO, the only thing they really did wrong, was not stamp out tanking immediately once teams started doing it.

Chris Connelly you muppet. Good to see Deano is on the level - fancy that, being told to lose either the match or your job. I bet he's glad they let him go, he probably didn't want to be involved in that culture anymore.

Whcih begs the question, what would Connelly know about winning ;) ?

And fancy that, coming out and saying "treat us fairly". What a bunch of softcocks, what a soft**** culture. Here we are, the first club in 10 years right properly under investigation for draft tampering or whatever and the first thing we did is stand up and say yeah we did it, we'll take the whack you give us. Melbourne instead are sooking already, talking up natural justice, i.e., we cheated but we're still rubbish, don't screw us more. Whatever the hell is wrong at that club at an administrative isn't being fixed anytime soon I bet, may take longer than fixing the list!

I agree. When the AFL put their collective head in the sand by saying that players always try to win and so there is no such thing as tanking, they lost a lot of credibility with me. Now it is up to them to restore the damage they allowed/encouraged/inflicted on to the competition.

Perhaps the AFL should take some responsibility for putting teams like Melbourne and to a lesser extent Carlton in this situation. They could help them out by let's say..... giving them draft picks? ;)

What's the bet we get punished harder than they do?

Not really the AFL's fault. It's the fault of the club administrators for putting pressure on coaches to lose matches, even though it's actually detrimental long-term to their club despite the good draft picks.

The worrying thing in regards to Bailey is Vlad had often said that if a club ever gets caught doing it, those involved in creating it will never work in the AFL again. Even if Bailey didn't want to do it, at the end of the day, he was the head coach, and has as much say on the performance if not more than anyone within the football club.

The Advertisers latest article certainly doesn't sound flash for Bailey. They also are now talking this years and next years draft as punishment for the Crows with the Tippett saga.

I'm not at all buying in to their stories, I've stated all along what I think the punishment would be. Just posting the new story and saying what was in it.

Absolutely. If Connolly wanted them to lose so much why didn't he just do some coaching?

That would be too obvious that they were trying to tank
