Cats release Kingsley

Sportal for afl.com.au

Geelong has delisted four-time leading goalkicker Kent Kingsley, Matthew McCarthy and Paul Koulouriotis.

Kingsley, played 12 games for North Melbourne before crossing to the Cats where he kicked 227 goals.

The 28-year-old had a poor 2006, managing just 10 goals from nine matches.

McCarthy played 22 games in his four years with the Cats, kicking 24 goals, but compiled only four games during 2006, including a five-goal haul against Carlton in Round 14.

Koulouriotis was recruited from Port Adelaide and played 21 games of senior football, three of those with the Power.

The 24-year-old managed only one match during 2006, a 14-possession game against Richmond in round nine.

Acting general manager of football operations Steve Hocking thanked the players for their contribution, and wished them all the best in the future.

"These players have all made valuable contributions to the Geelong Football Club and we sincerely thank them for their services," Hocking said.

Rookie listed players Will Slade, Nick Batchelor and Tim Sheringham did not have their contracts renewed.

sigh is that all? I was expecting it, but it still fracking s h i t s me that Gardiner is being kept on, as well as Spencer... I guess that extra special car sponge Charlie invested in has paid major dividends.
Ahh well at least Will "teeny-chicks-love-me-even-though-i-cant-play-footy" slade hasn't been promoted.

well no surprises here, although I think Koula is unlucky, Gardiner and Playfair are very fortunate to have survived and one would think have 1 year to prove they belong on the list.

No surprises there.

Kent - Scapegoat.

McCarthy - Should have been delisted last year. Also an indictment on the coaching staff that they couldn't get his kicking to a reasonable standard over 5 years.

Koula - Never got a chance despite getting leather poisoning each week in the VFL. Unlucky.

Batchelor - Disappointing after a promising beginning. Injuries didn't help him.

Slade - Unfortunately for all his commitment, lack of skills will cost you all the time (Unless your name is Cameron Ling or Corey Enright).

Teddy - Solid without being anything flash. Didn't do anything to suggest he should get a spot ahead of Callan, DJ, Bomber etc.

It appears Sam Hunt is firming towards a spot on the senior list.

If Sam Hunt does get promoted, won't another player have to be culled from the list to make way for him? Or will they try and take through the draft? If they go down the draft route, I'll be majorly pissed to see us waste a draft pick on a fringe player, especially since this is supposed to be a superdraft...

Teddy ahaed of Callen????????? Give up the Bongs mate. Callen will be a regular ones player and was described by Tudor as one of the most couragous players he has seen or coached including his playing days, Thats a fair wrap. What did Sherringham do???

Anyway Im disgusted that Charlie has another year- turnover city here we come

Do you have to be so rude? Her favourite player just got delisted.

I know. I remember how gutted I was when Leigh Colbert left. I know, totally different circumstances, but it still hurts.

As for the delistings, would have to agree. Just add Gardiner and Spencer and it will be complete ;)

I think someone else has to be delisted for Hunt to be promoted.I gather if Lonergan pulls the pin then Hunt would replace him on the list straight away.

MrS speaks the truth. One less frustrating player on out list:thumbsu:

I have a feeling that this is only the beginning. So far Ricco has retired but as he was on the veterans list he doesn't get replaced with another player. That means we have freed up 3 spots on the senior list with the departures of Kent, Macca and Koulio and another 3 rookie spots (+ one extra due to Ricco's retirement).

Sam Hunt cannot be retained due to his age so he will either be elevated to the senior list or cut at a later date. If he is to be upgraded we need to delist someone else.

I would really hope that in such a strong draft we would take more than just the 2 live selections (with Tom already signed sealed and delivered). I would imagine that the likes of Gardiner, Spencer & Playfair wouldn't be breathing a big sigh of relief just yet. However I think that Lonners, if he chooses to go on, will be downgraded to rookie status and if Callan still want's out then we'll end up keeping Chuck, Frank & H.

I think Shannon Byrnes, Tim Callan, Playfair, Gardiner and Spencer are the one who would be a bit nervous...

Dont forget we have the preseason draft as well...Id imagine, Spencer and one of Gardiner and Playfair would be close to leaving...that frees up two more spots....

As with our veterans list...who would get put there now?

If there were more to be delisted why wait to announce it?

Jub, I'm not sure if Milburn qualifies. I think he turns 30 in 2007 which is one of the qualification rules.

This will be all of the delistings. Mark my words.

Also, to make it easier for clubs to keep experienced players as mentors, the League now allows clubs to keep a maximum of two "veterans" (age 30 or over, with at least ten years service with the same club) and count only half their salary against the salary cap.

some people are saying Milburn may go to the veterans list but I have a feeling he may still need another year. I think next year is his 10th year at the club as well.

Someone may correct me if I have it balls up there. If he can go, then Hunt may be elevated into his place on the list.

13.2 A Player is eligible for inclusion on an AFL Club’s Veterans List or to be classified as a veteran, on the Primary List if:
(a) the Player has been at the AFL Club on the Primary List for at least ten (10) years; and
(b) the Player is 30 years of age or older as at 30 September in the relevant AFLSeason

Milburn turns 30 on 15 April and was drafted in 1995.

In reference to all the 'why hasn't Gardiner gone' isn't he still contracted? You don't delist players half way through a contract we would have to pay it out....

How about reading it properly next time. Where do I say that he should be ahead of Callan?

Seems I'm not the one on the bongs.

thanks catempire, all I could remember was he debuted in 1997 in the senior squad. Looks like he definately could become a veteran and that would give them a spot to elevate sam hunt. Apparently in London, Bomber was talking up Sam Hunt playing in the seniors next year big time.

Slade finally being cut loose is a positive at least, perhaps the only positive with minimum changes being made. We are going to regret our inactivity down the track.
