After earlier in the year stating that AAMI statium was good for the Adelaide AFL teams into the future. He now wants another stadium in melbourne.

Does he know that he is CEO of the AFL not the VFL. While adelaide football fans have to put up with the dinasour of the 1970s, He will push for a 3rd great stadium in melbourne. This realy annoys me.

Bring back Wayne Jackson, he said on ABC radio today that what really needs to happen for the AFL into the future, is to reduce the number of teams in victoria. He said that 10 teams in vic makes a mockery of a national competition.

If a couple of teams left melbourne there would be absolutely no need for another stadium in melbourne. Then perhaps Demetriou could look at supporting fans in the more neglected states.

Kill me for it, but i agree.

Average of 5 games in melbourne every week and they have 2 stadiums to play in - one being the "hallowed" MCG where you are only suppose to play a few games there a year to preserve the surface - which is crap.

But in reality they shoudl have less teams anyway and the sooner it happens the better.

Key difference being that they want a new one to play extra games in, wheras we want a replacement one.

Now anyone (I'm looking at you Vic Crow) who doesn't think the AFL is implicitly biased towards Melbourne and Victoria is absolutely ****ing kidding themselves.

When Melbourne (doesn't) need a new stadium the AFL is falling overitself to build one, when Western Australia or South Australia desparately need one, **** it, it's their state football assosiactions and governments problems:thumbsdown:

Astonishingly pathetic by the current administration who is still yet to realise it's a national competition.

Arent they considering building one in Cranbourne?

Makes the decision to bulldoze Waverley seem utterly pointless. They get rid of Waverley...then 10 years later wanna build a new stadium 10 minutes further out from Waverley.

To be honest I have never liked the idea of Vic games being played at only 2 stadiums. Im a traditionalist though.

It makes sense really. What is it being used for? Do any VFL sides play out of there? Or is it just a training base?

I cant see why Kangaroos v Melbourne games or Melbourne vs Anybody that get 16,000 at the MCG cant be played there.

There is only going to be one extra game in Melbourne every 2 weeks anyway. One of the new teams will be playing home each week, the other away and they will probably play at least 4 of the interstate sides away once each plus their home state rivals twice in the season. That leaves probably 7 games each in Melbourne a year. Worth an extra stadium? Especially when the AFL are still hoping one or two Vic clubs "die" or relocate ... I would think not.

It is an insult to SA fans who can't get one decent stadium, especially when Melbourne are already building the new "state of the art" Rectangular Stadium for A-League & NRL games. Can't we just have one new one please?! :)

Stop talking so much sense relapse, it just makes me even more angry that they are even thinking of this.

Just as an aside, what are the AFL chipping in for the upgrades to Footy Park?

Probably as much as they did for our AFL licence ... a big fat zero! How much are the new teams paying again?! Grrr ... level playing field my ass!!!

Why? I want a proper explanation as to why you singled me out.

Whats wrong with Princes Park ???

Carlton nearly went bankrupt upgrading it and it is sitting there not being used and it holds 35,000 people

The Collingwood VFL side (yes, thats right) play their home games at Princes Park.

Add to that, two of the grandstands are being demolished for Carlton's "elite training facility" and Princes Park is not suitable.

However, while reading a Mike Sheahan article today (I think from yesterdays Herald Sun) that said that Demetriou hadn't exactly done his sums properly. However I don't think Mike really did either, so here is my take on it.

Apparantly, the season will be extended to 24 rounds. Thats an extra 18 games (9 games per week) for the extra two rounds, plus another 22 games for the existing rounds, equals 40 games.

Each of the new sides will have 12 home games. There is 24. Add an extra two for the local away derby, there is 26. That leaves 14 extra games. Not all of them will be in Melbourne, some will be in other states. I think it will be less than 10 extra games over the course of the year in Melbourne. Hardly warrants a new stadium. If an existing stadium could be upgraded cheaply (like Princes Park if these developments weren't going on) to bring it up to scratch, I could deal with it. Another new stadium is not really needed.

Lots of ideas being touted around at the moment Showgrounds have been mentioned I think they have gone cold on the Cranbourne idea as they want to keep it central, someone called Triple M yesterday and suggested Whitten Oval and Ive also thought of Princess Park.

Sorry to announce but SA is a backwards state and will get nothing, you will all be relocating over the boarder faster than you can say kick-a-vic:p

Heres to a third stadium:thumbsu:

You're claims in Father/Son threads that the AFL did not set the rule with Victorian bias and your position that Patrick Dangerfield should not have been allowed to play in the TAC Cup.

It's alright though, I still love you, you're not a prick unlike the poster above me;)

I love Brad Moran, Im going to get into a few Kangaroos supporters tomorrow after what they told me about him:)
