It's confirmed.

Craig Cameron on Demonland said...
"He will be a father/son selection for Melbourne in this year's draft. He has had a shoulder op. and is completing year 12. There is no 'normal time' for these things to be finalised, as asserted by a previous poster. He lives in Perth and it is not merely a case of popping into the club for a photo shoot.

I spoke to Chris's mum earlier this week and we have organised a time in the near future to promote Chris's selection. Stay tuned!!"

I'm a little bit worried myself. Is he really that good? I know he was injured during the Championships, but he struggled to get a kick.

Still, I trust CAC.

An idea could be to trade an average player (e.g Wheatley) to Brisbane in exchange for their 3rd round pick (which would be 48-49), and then use that on Johnson.

Am I clever or what?

Not really! ;)

The last person we took under the F/S rule, might I remind you, was Michael Clark. Do I need to go any further? :o

I'm pretty sure Clark wasn't taken under the F/S Rule.

I'm pretty sure he was mate, his old man was Denis Clark, and I am about 99% sure he was taken under F/S.

Nup.

We took Clark at 42, and in those days you had to take a F/S with a second round pick.

That's right, we didn't have those two middle picks in 1999 - but you are certain it wasn't F/S? We couldn't take one under the F/S at 42 because of the penalities?

Either way, he was drafted because of his relation to Denis.

I checked an old draft list and there was no mention of him taken under the F/S.

Anyway, it won't be hard for Johnson to pass Clark's 1 game in 4 years.

Unless he turns out like Clark! ;)

But in all seriousness, I hope the guy is drafted and turns out to be a clas player in the red & blue!

Can't agree there.

Since 1997....CAC's early picks have been:

Travis Johnstone - Gun.
Chris Lamb- Talented, but hasn't been given a go.
Brad Green - Gun.
Paul Wheatley - Has all the talent in the world, but just can't cut it. Mistake.
Scott Thompson - Gun.
Luke Molan - No good. Wasn't entirely CAC's fault though.
Steven Armstrong - Gun.
Daniel Bell - A bloody star!!!! :p. Seriously though, he will be a damn good player.
Nick Smith - Gun. Second coming of Stewie Loewe.
Jared Rivers - Bloody gun.

Only Molan and Wheatley have been "genuine" mistakes so far.

And you must remember that we have had two top 10 picks (TJ and Molan) in that time.

And then there's Bruce, Whelan, Miller, Hunter and Ferguson...

Not sure you can do what you suggested Demon37 - I think they would take your first pick in the 3rd round, not the later one. Worth double checking though.

We didn't take him father-son thankfully. What a waste of a pick that would've been. He was drafted in the 70s from memory but maybe Demon37 can tell us exactly.

found this recently which you demon fans will be pleased to see....

Johnson set to conclude father-son move to Melbourne

By Daniel Garb

East Fremantle youngster Chris Johnson looks set to finalise his move to AFL club Melbourne next season under the father-son rule.

The Demons have been tracking the impressive youngster for a while now and will use their second-round pick at the National Draft in November to bring Johnson to the Junction Oval next year.
The rangy left-footer was a member of the Western Australia under-18's side that competed in the National Championships in July, and also toured Ireland with AIS/AFL Under-17 team in 2002.
Despite suffering injury problems, most notably the debilitating osteits pubis, Johnson is considered an exciting prospect with his ability to kick long goals.
Demon fans will be bouyed by the arrival of Johnson, after the club suffered a terrible 2003 season, winning just five games.
Johnson's father Alan played for Melbourne during his football career.

Thanks for the info Jumper.

footyman - We took Clark at 42. God knows why.

By the way, are you DeeBest? Just wondering...

Cannot agree more, DeeBest is one of the biggest tossers to post over at Demonland.

I've also heard he doesn't have a penis either!

With all those "guns" in your side, I guess Melbourne will be shooting for the premiership this season. Best of luck, look out AFL!@!
