Detective Inspector stood down by OPI

Not sure this is of interest, I stumbled upon it and was a little surprised someone like the HS hasn't run with it?

Seems the Detective Inspector heading the case into the allegations involving two Collingwood players, has been stood down by the OPI.

Mr Davies had a reputation in police circles as a rising star and had been placed in charge of a series of sensitive investigations, including rape allegations against two Collingwood footballers.

The OPI last night released a statement that said: ''Victoria Police suspended an inspector on full pay yesterday as a result of an ongoing Office of Police Integrity investigation. ''As the investigation is ongoing, no further comment will be made at this time.''

Doesn't really explain why, but perhaps seems to imply by mentioning the Lovett leak next, that he is being investigated for similar?

Dunno, just surprised it didn't get more air time, and thought I'd post it on here rather than the main board. Dislike intensely when stuff like this is used for trolling.

There is far more money in other operations that police could get their extra pay from. It wouldn't surprise me though as serving similar happened around the Milne case a few years back now. Wasn't the CIO in that case your ex runner/doc. You can never trust police investigations when footballers are involved. I'm tipping we will never know the truth.

Nice attempt by The Age to imply that the matter relates to the current Collingwood investigation but they've also been very careful not to state that this is the issue involved. If it was you can bet on it being front-page in every rag in the country.

Yeah, it's an interesting article from one aspect, and that is football sells!

Oh, and they mentioned rape as well, sex/violence also sells

They sneakily mention Collingwood, in relation to one of the things the guy has overseen, and then talk about a different cop, this one a sergeant, to bring St Kilda footy club into it as well.

No where do they say the Det Insp has done anything related to footy, they just basically namedrop two big footy clubs to draw attention to their story.

Meanwhile many folks will see a link involving Collingwood, or St Kilda and the police, cover ups, cops paid off by rich AFL clubs etc etc

No surprises really, I guess we may do similar, if we were lazy journos, to juice up our otherwise dull stories a bit.
