Anyone interested in this game?

Massive series in PC gaming history (well one of them anyway) will probably have many h4rdcor3 PC geeks worried about consolisation, with 360 and PS3 release.

Let's have a chat about it.

Deus Ex has already had a run on consoles. To pretty great reviews as well, any PC hardcore player would be terribly hypocritical to have a go at the game being 'consolised'.

Is that right? Explain how it would be hypocritical?

Are you ting about Invisible War, on xbox? Because dude, that sucked.
There have been two Deus Ex titles on consoles, Deus Ex: The Conspiracy for PS2 (which was basically Deus Ex ported from PC to PS2...even had USB support!) and Invisible War for XBOX.

Regardless of how good or bad the sequel (Invisible War) was, it wasn't due to the consolisation of the title.

And I meant to say contradictory, for some reason I said hypocritical. But yeah, since there have already been console titles for Deus Ex there's not exactly a basis to say that the game would've been dumbed down due to moving to consoles.

.

Are you serious?!

Invisible War is probably the most famous example of a game being dumbed down for console, hell it practically kicked off the whole debate during its development - where were you?

The smaller levels, crappy UI, shorter length, simplified gameplay (unified ammunition, lightening the RPG elements) - all to make up for the short comings of the X-Box.

Invisible War was designed for the X-box from the very beginning, a huge ****ing difference to Deus Ex: The Conspiracy which was a PC game ported to Console.

And that's why most Deus Ex fans have already made their minds up with Human Revolution. It's another console game being ported to PC. Hell the port isn't even being done in-house.

Personally I don't think Human Revolution will be a bad game, but it will be closer to Invisible War 2 then Deus Ex 3.

Deus Ex on PS2 was a mess. The levels, in particular, where cut down into tiny little sections which... was one of the (many, oh so many) reasons why DE2 is the worst gaming sequel of all time. The fact that this "feature" made the jump from console DE1 to multiplatform DE2 is a classic example of consolization. The xbox's limited RAM made only small levels possible, so the PC version got dragged down along with the universal ammo, gimped choices in story, massive UI etc etc.

As for DE3, it looks good (trailer was sexy - love the way they are approaching the look of the game, the music etc), but I'm not expecting DE1 gameplay. If they can come close in feel to the plot and atmosphere of the first, that would go a long way in making it a great game.

It just shows how AAA budgets have been a detriment to good games when Deus Ex 1 is widely recognised as one of the greatest games of all time (many say it is the best PC game ever released - and that is a huge call), yet not one single big-name publisher is willing to make another game like it these days, although to be fair, the original did sell disappointingly. That doesn't excuse the blatant console rape that took place in the sequel, however.

WTF? It's like you're trying to start a fight with me, but you have no idea what you're saying. You're trying to sound knowledgable, but it's really backfiring on you champ. All console verisons of Deus Ex have been garbage. Where are these 'pretty great reviews'?

You make me wish I had three hands. So I could triple facepalm.

Everything you said is spot on mate.

IW was a console game through and through, and to port the same game to PC was a slap in the face to many PC users of DX, myself included

I am looking forward to DX:HR, but things like highlighting and takedown moves are very questionable.

Yeah not quite. Its an approx 10 hour version that was given to the press as a preview (it's apparently only 1/3rd of the full game).

It's also chock-full of bugs and is basically a technical mess at this point. The good thing though is that even at this stage, this early preview is making waves for its gameplay. That's a really strong sign considering most of the people downloading this are probably hardcore Deus Ex 1 fanboy's who would cry blasphemy at the drop of a hat.

It looks a million times better than Deus Ex 2, and for that at least, I am grateful.

edit: Anyone who hasn't played the original, FFS go on steam, pick it up for a fiver, play it on even the oldest of PC's and enjoy one of the absolute greats in gaming. Deus Ex doesn't excel in one area, however, it is the ultimate jack-of-all-trades when it comes to FPS, and its clunky components just seamlessly fit into one amazing experience.

Well that's why its a BETA/10 hour demo :)

hehe I guess I always think of beta's as more a complete product than a demo like what many dev's refer to them as. Regardless of definition though, it's still important to point out that's its not a full leak, so its hardly disasterous for the dev.

All its doing at the moment is making people excited.

Bump
Only a couple of weeks to go pretty pumped for this one as well had nothing to play the last month or so.

Greenmangaming.com are selling pre-order steam keys for $40 Aussie. It beats paying the $63 that is being asked on Steam itself.

Just a heads up if anyone has pre-ordered the disc version from the UK or Russia, those versions seem to be region locked. Digital versions it seems aren't locked though.

Looks like Square Enix have now back tracked on this stupid idea due to the backlash they received. :thumbsu:

Square Enix appear to have reversed their decision on region-locking the retail copies of Deus Ex: Human Revolution in Europe and the UK, which we’d noted yesterday. An Eidos forum post by Square Enix “mastering manager” Jason Walker says: “We’re aware of some discussion regarding the planned region-locking of boxed PC versions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and after careful review we have decided not to implement this in the UK/Europe. Please note, this plan only related to PC boxed games, and not digital or console editions.”
