Tentative but very excited.

Injuries cruelled his preseason last year and a lack of tank meant that he couldn't run out games. His games averaged from invisible to OK when he was learning his craft as a ruck/forward. Marking was always a standout. Everything else wasn't.

Then he got moved into the backline this year, the position he played before he was drafted. And geez he looks impressive. Reads the ball extremely well and goes for his marks in the air. Isn't afraid to commit himself and marks more often than spoil. Didnt play on the weekend due to soreness but was forming a very good partnership with Nash. Key position size. If he continues on the same trajectory he should be elevated.

I agree.
I am a big Surman fan. He is just the type of player we need on the backline..

Yea but is that a one off or has he been showing consistency over the previous games too?

He is going pretty well, the match reports from rounds 1 to 4 state:

Round 1 - “Cousins had 20 disposals and kicked a goal. He loves the contest so a lot of his ball was contested. It was good signs for a young kid."

Round 2 - “Cousins was our leading contested possession getter on the weekend, with 13 of his 24 touches being contested. That’s going to be his style, he’s very strong over the footy for an 18-year old. He’s working on spending a bit of time on the wing too, but most of his time will be on the inside."

Round 3 - “Cousins had 19 disposals, five tackles and 16 pressure acts. He’s a young kid that keeps developing each week, and we always know for sure that he’s going to provide really strong clearance game for us. He continues to get better.”

Round 4 - “Cuzzy ended up with 29 disposals. He had 16 contested possessions, six clearances, five inside 50s, four rebound 50s, so it was a pretty productive game in terms of being all over the ground and giving us good representation at stoppage but also getting back and helping the defenders. He continues to learn his craft and he finished with three tackles as well so he was a real workhorse all day.”

I know he is young, but I think it would be great to see him given a crack on the big stage. I'm pretty sure he has been in Box Hills best on ground every game this season.

Cheers. My Father In-Law would love the news of finding a roughie.

For what its worth, I really hope he works out for you guys as he looks a gem by those reports.
