The forget gem of our list, i hope he has used his time off to stack on some weight and add some aerobic fitness....my query however is in regards to his knee. From memory he did it at training?! does anyone know how it actually happened, these circumstances have a massive influence on recovery. The mental aspect is hardest to overcome

By an extremely long distance not forgotten. Injuries aside should play early.
Pretty sure he did it in a game. See training vids, seems to be flying. Maybe RTM can help here, had a good look at them recently.
Pretty sure little Dick will be right up there.

Did it in a preseason game against WCE in Albany. Mitch Brown did his knee in the same game. :(

Footage of Training I have seen, Does look like he is over his Knee:)

Doesn't seem to have bulked up though, I know people are optimistic about him and I'm a big fan, but I can really see that being the thing that holds him back in his career. With a year on the sidelines he should have had plenty of time in the gym.

im sure the medicos have done all in there power to have him back to 100% (or as close as physically possible) fitness. my main concern is whether there is that lingering mental effect, whether he will be thinking about his knee when he goes to tackle, go for the ball, changing direction etc.

I think he is too soft and carries to much baggage. I think he needs to roll up his sleeves and harden up.

181 cm & 69 kg when drafted. And according to footy wire is now 76 kg, same as Barham (181 cm & 76 kg). So seems to be getting there.

yeah he likes to run through the middle and send it long and hard up the guts with penetration.

but i see him this year as more of an impact pinch hit player this year.
hopefully when he gets his chance he doesn't blow it and run out of petrol.

because i see him being pulled off quicksmart if he does that!

haha.

He does need to do that a bit. But you can never tell where Mick wants to play him. Given his size maybe a trial wing position would be fit for him this year and (hopefully) as he buls up move more into the middle or up forward.

From the reports I have read on here about pre-season training so far he has been quite prominent especially in the drill which sounds like it is to help us with the cluster against the Hawks.

If he has kept his pace after the knee reco, his pace and skills could be a real bonus to us next year. The obvious concern is his size - he does not look like he has built up too much but if he has improved his core strength he could play an outside role similar to what Thomas has been playing the last few years.

I get the feeling he is seriously rated within the club and will be given every opportunity if fully fit.

As Dave The Man said, from the footage we've seen from training that actually displays Dick, it looks as though he's handling his recovery quite well. He definitely looks as though he's got some pace left him.

I'm tipping him to be our most improved this coming year if he can keep the injuries away. He just looks dangerous when around the ball. Last year would have been bigger with him fully fit

although he is still skinny dick has definetly gotten bigger and stronger. expect more growth next year. in the first couple of years in the afl system clubs place a great deal of focus on a young player's core strength moreso than gaining mass (have you noticed the sudden dramatic growth of players such as pendles and thomas?)

as for the mental thing about being over his knee the only way he will regain confidence in his knee is by playing matches of football

Not at all.

Well, Pendles is way bigger than he was 2-3 years ago when he started. Daisy is much bigger too in comparison. You forget how skinny he was. He'll never be huge but he has put on size.

For his role you dont need to be overly bulky.

He will be a pure outside, goal sneak, flashy link man.

He will roam around the forward half, crumbing to Ant and T.Cloke and allowing Thomas, Didak and Leon to push further up the ground.

Could burst onto the scene and have a very big season like the Davey's and Rioli have done in recent years.

From the little I have seen through CTV he seems a bit of a cult figure amongst the players, always getting his face on the Black & White show with the boys asking about his max bench and his rehab.

Someone mentioned the other day that he was doing agility runs and appeared to be as quick as ever.

Can't wait to see him back out there, just showed a bit of class in his first few appearances, hoping to see many more.

Just hope they don't try to slot Dick down back, could be a bit mistake.

Would he be our Sam Blease??

Guys I am as optimistic as the next pies man and I am always getting bagged from ppl at work because I am so!! But I can't help but be worried that we MAY have another Chris Egan here... I hope I'm wrong and I'm making an uneducated call because I haven't seen him since he last played and to be honest I don't really remember much lol. Does anybody share my thoughts or can anyone help me change my mind because he could be the one that frees up Dids, Daisy, Leon, etc... to help further bolster our midfield stocks!!!
