This might be in the wrong section but personally, I just enjoyed 3 fried dimmies, 2 potato cakes, a piece of flake, a pineapple fritter and some chips, all washed down with a bottle of salty soy sauce and a can of good ol' Dr Pepper.
Fecking delicious too I might add.

Coincidently, my shirt seems to have shrunk in the past half hour while I was wearing it...must be the heat *shrugs*

I just made this with spring onion, garlic and capsicum (a bit of corriander and chilli) and will eat with steamed broccoli and carrot.
wasn't very good. And to top it off i have a guy staying with me that i kind of like and offered him some too. Of course he politely ate it.

just cos you're carb loading mate ;)

Has anyone else read 'The Optimum Nutrition Bible'?

Very good book and makes a lot of sense. Author talks about how he (and others) were able to treat patients with schizophrenia by fixing their diet, and had a 90% remission rate.

How about Mens Health The Abs Diet.. anyone shed any opinion about that?

I'm currently doing a program called 'metabolic precision'. Which basically is a 6 meal a day program, eat what you want so long as it's a wise choice - however carbs only allowed within the 3hr window 30 minutes prior to and then after a weights sesh.

Gotta make sure each meal has a good protein source, a source of low energy carbs outside 'the window' and good fats.

All seems to be good in terms of healthy eating, but haven't lost any weight in the first 3 weeks, but may have lost a bit but gained muscle due to weight training (i doubt this.)

The calorie in versus calorie out thing seems to still reign supreme for me, maybe I just need to make smaller portions of what I'm eating.

I hadn't heard of Tulsi tea.... i'll definitely check that out. I worry about my cortisol levels being high.

Then don't worry! :D Stress is actually one of the major causes of cortisol increase.

other way around. It is released in response to stress, either mental or physical. It is one of the fight or flight hormones - like adrenaline.

Workouts raise your cortisol; so does worrying about your job, taxes, girlfriend etc.

I did not know this, i thought it was the other way round. Good to know.
it is not necessarily always bad, especially if you are trying to lose weight. Cortisol causes an increases in lypolisis ( fat breakdown for energy).

Cortisol is elevated when you first wake up - something to do with the fight or flight mechanism and the body wanting to get alert as soon as possible would have an evolutionary advantage.

That's why fasted cardio in the morning is always going to be really effective. Growth Hormone and Cortisol is elevated so the body is ripe to burn fat.

My stress has decreased over the last few years anyway.

I do ride to work every morning and often don't eat breakfast. I've noticed the difference this makes so what you're saying makes sense.

I have had a craving for lamingtons lately, especially the ones with cream and jam in the middle. So i am giving these a go over the weekend;

Lamington Cake:
6 organic / free range eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract or 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
2 tablespoons raw honey or sweetener of your choice (organic maple syrup, few drops stevia etc)
1/4 cup (60 ml / 2 fl oz) macadamia nut oil or your choice of (cold pressed coconut oil,
butter or olive oil)
1/2 cup ( 70 g / 2 1/2 oz) coconut flour (see notes)
2 teaspoons gluten free baking powder
1 cup (150 g / 5 1/4 oz) fresh or frozen raspberries
1 cup (75 g / 2 1/2 oz) shredded or desiccated coconut for rolling

Chocolate ganache:
100 g (3 1/2 oz) good quality dark eating chocolate 70 – 85 % cocoa – finally chopped
60 ml (1/4 cup / 2 fl oz) coconut water or coconut milk

Whip up coconut milk into a cream
Jam can be made from
1/2 cup of strawberries
1/4 cup blueberries
1/3 cup of honey
Splash of lemon juice
1 teaspoon of chia seeds
Cut strawberries and place into boiling pan with blueberries and honey
Add in a splash of lemon juice
Boil for 10 minutes, continue to stir
Let it cool and mix in chia seeds

Preheat your oven to 160 C
Whip the eggs, vanilla and honey for 10 minutes until light and creamy.
Pour in the macadamia nut oil with the eggs still whipping and mix well.
Add the coconut flour and baking powder and mix until combined.
Pour lamington cake mix into a square 22 cm baking tin lined completely with baking paper.
Sprinkle the raspberries evenly over the top.
Bake for 35 – 40 minutes or until cooked through.
Cool for 30 minutes before lifting out from the tin to completely cool.
Divide cake into 25 mini squares.
Make your chocolate ganache:Heat the coconut water or coconut milk if in a small pan until almost boiling. Turn off the heat.
Add the chocolate and stir it through the coconut until you have a smooth silky ganache.
Spread each square of lamington with a little chocolate ganache very lightly and thinly with a small knife on all sides.
Roll in coconut and place onto a tray lined with baking paper to set.
Cut in half and spread jam and add in coconut cream
Enjoy.

been waking up earlier these days, i used to worry about not getting enough calories, now i'm more worried about blowing them out. gotta try keep it more strict now, chocolate and lollies are so tempting though

I agree i have such a sweet tooth as well, not so much lollies but love my cakes and biscuits. That's why i make a lot of stuff myself, although still high in calories (like the recipe in my previous post) but there is no added sugar and i use a lot natural/organic products.

Try being up from 2-3am until 10-11pm some days.

I watched fork over knives (which essentially was about endorsing the china study) last year which convinced me that the vegan diet was the healthiest diet and the way forward...

... This might convince you further. It is brutal, though...

(Edit: Actually, that's not brutal. It's absolutely terrifying, and extremely disturbing. Be careful with that link. It's a trailer to the film "Earthlings". I'm pretty sure it's convinced more people to abstain from meat than Forks Over Knives...)

yeah true and it all metabolises the same way but i like to think that i'm being healthier by eating stuff like yoghurt or drinking fruit juice instead of eating a handful of starburst babies.

W2L, I wont open the link at work but my question is the link focused on ethical or health reasons for not eating meat?

Iced Coffee. My one weakness. While the macros are generally awesome (20g protein, 50g carbs and 10g fat) the sugar is what worries me. Most of them on average have about 50g of sugar. As long as I don't have alot of other sugars in the day will I be fine? Or does the certain type of sugar play a part?

That might be a bit too violent for me to watch.

Hey there you!

It has a much broader scope than that. Basically, it looks at the treatment of animals in 5 different ways- as food, entertainment, in clothing and fashion, in sport... and as pets. It focuses on the ethical reasons for a plant based diet.

It is powerful, and it takes a commitment to watch. I know people who have changed their diet because they've seen forks over knives. This film obviously takes a completely different angle, but for people who are abstaining from meat anyway... it's a nice way to show them that there are other benefits to this diet aside from lowering their risk of heart disease.

It's definitely not for everyone though.

I'm not 100% sure about abstaining from meat for health reasons but 100% understand why people are vegetarian/vegan for ethical reasons.

In one of my sociology lectures back at uni, the lecturer showed a documentary about the process of selling and consuming meat from a market in shanghai. The general reaction was "eww". Then he showed a documentary on Western meat production. The whole lecture theatre was in a state of silent shock afterwards. He made his point loud and clear and even questioned himself on 'going too far'.

I'll attempt to watch Earthlings at the right time.
