Dimma Contract Talks

Mentioned in the Craig Cameron thread that it was said on the wireless that we will be entering into contract talks with Hardwick @ the end of this year early next year .

How do the punters feel about this ???

Pulling the trigger too early maybe ? Personally speaking i would like to have seen some runs on the board next year .

I think aslong we our continue to develop our players, the results will come. This Carlton game every year is a morale squasher, if we can somehow beat them, it sets up our whole season. Dimma is showing that he is getting the players going, next year its time for the gameplan to take more effect, two more years would be about right. If by then, finals, top four havent been achieved, Dimma knows he's gotta go.

But I'm confident we will succeed soon.

I'm 50/50. Saves the hassle of someone trying to poach him at the end of the year and all the unnecessary stress of the media if we don't make the 8 next year.

But then again, we haven't made finals yet so doesn't deserve an extension yet.

But I'm happy to give him another 2 years.

Extending his contract now says to me we may as well have just given 5 straight up a-la Wallace

It goes without saying that we are not privvy to all the inside machinations and i'll accept that , but there was a 6 week period this year where things were very , very ordinary .

At the very least i would hope there is some form of KPI get out clause in any new deal because from where i sit , i am one hombre' that is tired of hiring blokes because they are "Gunna" do the job

To me Maric is a bit of a short cut.

If management , footy dept etc... knew they were there for 8 years would they chase Maric???

I doubt it, better long term options to get a premiership IMO!

I think he has got good enough results in his first 2 years to warrant the extention and given the club are looking at opening talks it would be fair to say they do as well.

When was the last time on-field looked so stable and promising. I am very happy with the way everything is going with the possible exception of Lade, whome im unsure of just yet.

Strong individual, good character, good bloke. Appears to have a process, inspired the footy dept spend. Looks to me to be a leader of men and the culture of the place has lifted markedly since then.
Unfortunately the destabilisation caused by a contract with only one year to run is something that forces clubs to move earlier than they would like. Otherwise I'd let it run it's course. But so far he's a definite tick for me and so a two year extension now (or a one plus one?) probably makes sense.

I assume he has one more year of his existing contract to go. If he learns from his mistakes, he would have learnt plenty this season (as youd expect from a second year coach). Ideally we'd wait and see how he goes for a bit longer. But with the way the media is into every coach that is out of contract at the end of year and every loss is magnified, it becomes a bit too destabilising. So I can see why the club wants to tie him up to stop all that bullshit and he seems to have done enough things right to get an extension. Problem is, a one year extension is almost a vote of no confidence so it will have to be two years.
