Draft Profile Dion Prestia

Hey Wall-E,

Finally got to have a look at Dion yesterday.

Very nice player who can find the ball in traffic. Did not appear to be quick but a smart head on his shoulders. He was the player who got Calder going.

I still struggle to get passed his 175cm and i cant see Collingwood picking him up as he appears to be another Blair type.

Understand why you rate him, but he has a big problem convincing recruiters to select him.

I would think he would need a good draft camp (as you have suggested)

Good luck to him, hope he makes it!

He's not fast, but his quick feet and first step make him nippy. That coupled with his balance and two sidedness mean that he's hard to corrall.

That kick gives me wood, can get 60 either side. As you said, he's a smart kid, but his height is a hinderance. But due to the fact he's inside-out, I don't see it as a real issue.

he was sensational today has moved himself into a top 15 pick, easily his best game of the year. he was smooth, quality skills, great release by hand, elite kicking today, explosive of the mark, ran the lines, fantastic in the clinches. 36 possies today, his hand balling was Greg williams like.

Was excellent today.

Every time he went into the pack he's bust out with the pill. Would have broken 10 tackles as the Gippy boys struggled to hold him. Good disposal, good decisions, play at either end and a work horse.

BOG today (no bias).

Cmon wall-e, just because you are biased doesn't make you wrong.

Hope he is ;)

I know your obviously a big fan, do you think his selection for essendon would be a good one?

Or would Smith, Atley or Caddy be more appropriate around pick 8?

Going by highlights that i have seen and limited games, i almost rate him above those guys...

I know a few people who i really trust their opinions that have seen him play live several times and they really rate him very highly... so Pick 8 might be going early on him going by Big footy ratings, but we will just have to wait and see..

I rate him higher than those mentioned. Could be because I've seen more of him though.

WAll-E - Is Dion your love child??? Not a serious question, but by god you rate him higher than most critics.

A serious question - what were his draft camp results? i know he did well in Flexibility, i dont know the rest.

WALLE-e rates him highly for good reason, he is an absolute star.

if i were a recruiter id be taking him top 10, but height is such a big issue these days i dont see it happening.

Absolute gun...wouldn't have thought he'll go top 10 though, trying to think of the last time a player that short went top 10. Having said that, maybe I'm just trying to talk myself into him sliding to 23 :D

My nephew has played with Dion since under 9's and the kid is a star. Yes he's small but gees he is so good in traffic, Williamesque. If he was 6ft, he would go top 5.

Yeah no doubt, but recruiters are so anti short arses these days, certainly with early picks. I reckon he'll go 15-30 and whichever club gets him well be very very happy.

Ask your nephew what he thinks of Dion's physical development over the years. I made a rep squad with him in u/15s. Always remember this puppy fat, quiet, little guy who was very elusive. Great player whoever picks him up will get good value for pick out of him. A reliable selection.

I think this guy is a gem. But its important to remember his body is very well developed therefore making him playing under 18's alot easier which makes him look very good.

Avg 29 posses in TAC cup, very impressive. Cant see him going in the top 15 due to size, but he is definitly good enough to be top 10. Hope he slips to the dons at 30, next L.Montagna.

6. Does this give a better chance for players in the mould of Barlow, Hasleby who are pure footballers to be drafted?
I think so. Someone like Dion Prestia from Calder could well be a top 10-12 pick this year. He’s about 175 centimetres, so normally that would see him marked down. But he wins the ball at stoppages, is quick off the mark, is smart and has a great kick on him.

8. Fremantle have a specific needs: Good inside mid to help Barlow Mundy etc and free Pavlich to play CHF, KPB/KPF, small backman to replace an aging Roger Hayden, and also to free up Broughton and Duffield to play attacking half back/midfield.
Our picks at this stage are likely to be 20, 37, 54 and 71. What are your thoughts on likely available players around those picks?
There should be plenty of midfielders around. I’ll know more closer to the draft, but maybe someone like Mitch Hallahan would appeal. Prestia too, but I think he’ll be gone by 20. Give me longer to work this all out though!

I think he is in the 20-40 range just because of his size,

I hope he slides to ports 35, not worth our 16 but a real gem pick up if he slides to 35 :D
