Couldn't get to today's match, but have turned the wireless on and off repeatedly in the hope a huge change would come over the game.

What a waste of my energy.

What have we learnt since Prelim Final week last year? Who knows?

I'll tell you what we haven't learnt...

1) that Daniel Wells needs to have scorpions in his boots, hopefully to teach him to run again

2) that Leigh Harding has no defensive side to his game, but he spent half of today across half back

3) that Hamish McIntosh needs to be treated a little differently after a great 2007 compared to how quick we applauded David Hale after his great 2005 (where is Hale now?)

4) that three key defenders below 6'2" (Firritto, Pratt, Gibson) will be monstered by anyone with reasonable reach and safe hands

5) that Dean is surrounded by reactive assistants; there's never any ground-breaking ideas coming out of the coaches' box

6) that there's a reason why multinational companies like Vodafone will never sign on for more than one year at a time; today was a great advertisement for their brand

Need I say more?

Yes, it's only Round 1, but thank Christ we've got Richmond next week

Yes, Richmond! A side coming off a great win and a 10-day break, and you thought this was painful.

I stand by what I said for most of last year. Wells would have got us some great trades, fast becoming a dud. I know i'll some crap over this statement, but feel free to prove me wrong.

Let's not overreact. We were outran by an underrated outfit. Think our midfield lacked polish, we got our hands on it alot at the bounce but coughed it up with lazy hands.

Absolutely disgusting, they would of been warned mid week not to be caught out flat for round 1.

It looked like a team in Rnd 1, versus a team on the footy trip in November.

Wells - Needs a very very stern word, he was shocking today, and didn't put near enough the effort that was required of him.

Watt - People wondering why he wasn't put on Lloyd, look no further than the job he did on McPhee, he got pantsed by a very very average footballer today, were episodes where a 10 year old could have spoiled the ball, with a bit of physical pressure. He was ****ing shocking. Speachless.

Power - **** me. Please.

Now it is round 1, and we will make the finals, it just frustrates me that we will look back in round 22 regretting that we lost to a "nothing special" team.

P.S - What have they been doing in pre-season? Good fitness was the catalyst for last year, should of been implemented again this year.

Cant help but feel that just looking at Wells, hes a frustrated man, whom wouldnt surprise me with early retirement to be honest. He really needs to pull his finger out and start injecting some pace into his game...

Wont be so quick to dismiss Richmond next week after that. I think there were too many flat footed players today and some of the kicking was wayward. Nowhere near enough pressure.

Was pleased with Harris, Grant in particular. Some of the runs of Thomas and Campbell were good as well.

Guys I know your upset (as am I) by todays efforts but lets not throw in the towel just yet.

Some positives out of the game were
N thompsons return
great crowd number (even if we were greatly outnumbered)
shaggs got a few touches

I think the coach needs to show a few of the seniors what it is like to play in the Magoos as some of the learning from the game were
We looked slow and unfit (second to the ball)
ability to hit a target

our mid field was not quick enough last year and thats why we got smashed in the finals , so why the heck would u play power in the midfield

we need some one in the mid field who can dominate , not another slow tagger

our back line trys hard :thumbsu:

yes its time to stop mothering wells , he doesnt perform drop him , time to put up or be traded wells

i feel sorry for guys like lower ,machman they showed enough last year to get agame before power

our mid field will be our weakness , long season coming up , no september in 08

Hell that was hard to stomach.

Downed at beer at the first bounce to toast the roosistance and apart from one and a bit quarters I felt punch drunk.

Hope those at the game can shed some light on what happened as the channel 7 commentators may as well have been at the Gabba given their lack of insight into what was happening.

Lets go skin us some tigers.

Would love to be in the rooms right now, Laidly would and should be giving they the biggest bake of all time, I can only hope that it shakes up a few people and any of the listed below should be concerned about their place in the team next week

Harding (time has come and gone)
Azza (expected the ball didn't get it, happy to look for the hanger)
Wells (POOR EFFORT TODAY)
Power (why did we pick hit up ?????)
Watt (F(^ me, what can you say)

A slight positive for me (after some soul searching) is that (with the exception of the Western Bullies) no team has as much leg speed through the midfield as they do.

As with last years finals, leg speed in the midfield and the lack of a tall key defender (Nathan Grima where are you now?) will be our key weaknesses.
Thompson's were both very good, Thomas & Campbell now clearly need to step up into the midfield.

Tagging can't wallpaper over our lack of legspeed, only an injection of youth can help out. If we lose a couple of games bringing them on then so be it.

If thats your weakness, then I guess thats a positive for us. Speed is our strength, with Foley, Deledio, Tambling, Newman, McMahon, King in the middle, and who would take Richo?

That's what Carlton were saying pre-season also...;)

I look forward to a 50k crowd next week, 45k of whom will be 'donning' the YELLOW & BLACK!!!

GO THE TIGER!!!

Disgraceful.

A few very puzzling things were going on today.

Why do we have McIntosh and Hale if Petrie is going to do all the ruck work?

Did Daniel Wells want to be there? I've seen him play some bad games before but never like this. What the **** was wrong with him?

Power playing most of the game in the centre?

We looked unfit and this may be due to us finishing 3 weeks later than we did last season. Maybe Laidley was concerned about belting us over the summer but if we are struggling fitness wise then it could be a long tough season. Why did Hanson not play today? Injury or just not named?

The arrogance of North supporters before this game astounded me. Very un-North like.

We thought we could just walk all over a very exciting and quick Bombers outfit.

People are also seriously deluded if they think we can win with Leigh Harding and Sam Power in the side. They are horrible footballers who instantly put us back a couple of spots

Jesse Smith can't come back quick enough.

Oh and I am rapidly losing patience with Wells

lol

how long do we have to wait , trade time for wells

I dont agree with trading him but he is not and never will be the star that we hoped he would, stars are consistant and mature eariler than Wells. He is and IMO will remain a good but not great player.

He was very poor today:(

Ah good to see everyone going off tap as per usual on Bigfooty.

I thought Power was okay, got a few clearences, very slow with the ball but used it well, thats his job right?

The players down today IMO were Azza, Harris, Wells, Gibbo, and Spud, throw in Jones being injured and thats two key players at least in every key area of the ground way down on form.

It was their first game under their new coach, hadn't beaten us for 7 years and wanted the win, we were cruising around thinking it would just happen in the first half and they caught us out. Lucas actually getting injured helped them it freed up their forward line and allowed Lloyd space, was very lucky for them, hardly a move super coach Knights would have thought of.

I'm no where near concerned as we saw what happened last year in the first 3 rounds and I reckon we will bounce back and easily account for Richmond, hopefully a few will pull the finger out, particularly Wellsy.

PS also heard a rumour that the coaches computers went down in the first quarter which I am sure would not have helped.

I don't need a computer to know that McINtosh and Harris on the bench at the start of the third term is a ludicrous idea.

Oh I more than agree but surely it can't help.

"How many kicks does McVeigh have?"

"Dunno.. maybe 15?"
