Who's going to "do a Swan" this season? By that I mean, out of the guys who have been good enough to play senior football, improvement beyond that could be taken for granted. If the player hasn't played over 20 games (around 10 games last season) he doesn't qualify, simple as that.

I'm not sure at the present time - I want to see your thoughts and get a feel for some names before I put my head in the deep end.

Any thoughts?

Has Guy Richards played 20 games yet? Otherwise, I can't see any obvious contenders, but Swan wasn't obvious either. Hang on, maybe Trav IS obvious. Everyone else seems to be under 20 games, or unlikely to take a quantum leap.

"Do a Swan" as in having one of the forward pockets named in their honour after threading a number of goals through from the boundary!

'The Dane Swan Pocket' is at the Collingwood Stand end.

Hopefully C3 can have the other named himself

I seriously hope its Ben Davies (unsure how many games he's played) and I reckon he's good enough to aswell.

Pendlebury and Rusling are two who should explode this season, but thats really a general thought around the club, not a big surprise like Swan was so to speak.

Yeah I'd say Davies :)

I would love to think Egan will have a big year becuase he potentially adds something we desperately need - pace and - flair but I can't see it. Travis and Rusling are candidates. Maybe Harry will rise give the opportunity. I can't think of any other obvious candiates but in a way that's the point isn't it?

Effes now that you mention it quite the opposite. He was out of training for a while and people were wondering what was happening, well it either had to do with his court case, an injury or due to some modified training program. In fact in view of his off-field troubles many Nicksters were calling for his head which I found very stupid.

I would have though CT was more talking about guys who don't have the obvious talent and just kind of come out of know where. Let face it I dont think anyone thought swan would produce what he did last year. For me this would count out the likes of trav, egan and rusling as I expect them to be very good anyway.

I reckon someome like Davies could. This kid could go either way. From the outside looking in it looks to me as though he is a bloody hard working and has a great attitude but he makes way too many mistakes. But swan used to make alot of mistakes as well. He can win the ball and while he misses alot of targets there is nothing wrong with his technique. I reckon he needs to string together a couple of very good games to give him some self belief and he could be a more than handy player.

Yeah, something along these lines.

I'm going to go with Guy Richards. He simply must take the next step to remain on the list. He's not a bad tap ruckman but needs to work on his mobility in that he can cover more ground and push forward. His frame is very concerning enough to keep doubts over him, however, if he can add a little muscle he should turn out to be alright.

It could potentially be no one - I can't remember any of our players improving as much as Swan did from 2005 to 2006.
Yeah, that is true, You don't have someone improve like that every year.
We do have many people that could do it though.
Like Harry O'Brien, Travis Cloke and Sean Rusling, and thats just naming a few.

Sam Iles and Leon Davis.

Iles is looking super on the training and practice match paddock I hear and I liked the occasional move of Neon into the midfield last year.

I thought he had his best year for the Pies until he got hurt. With his speed he should be able to create space with the ball and have time to find a target inside the forward 50.

Iles will never make a jump leap like Swan, because he'll never be at that level. Iles is average at best, we need to accept that as supporters I think, that not every kid we get will be a star.

I'll stand corrected, but if Iles ever becomes a 'vital' part of our line up, I'll be blown out of the water. I think he's average on every level, where as someone like Davies, like Swan, could end up going either way... Exploding and being a real cat outta the bag, or falling out and remembering what could have been... With Iles I think he could be a solid back pocket, but never really anything much greater?

I hope I do get proven wrong though! :)

I also think Harry will no doubt secure he's spot this year, especially with the passing of Wakelin. I think he will become a very solid regular, hard to say he would explode like Swan though.

Nicholls will be our future Swan, I have no doubt. We will wonder why this kid spent two yrs on a rookie list... They will wonder why he was on a rookie list at all!!! :)

There are a few Iles fans out there, I see. I went to watch the boys train on Australia Day, he stood out on the wing; he's put on a few kilos and never seems to stop running, finds the ball. He did enough last year to earn a promotion even though he wasn't ready he should be better for the experience. I'm not expecting too much of him this season, but I hear the coaching staff want him to take the next step and play close to 22 games for Collingwood - that would be incredible whichever way you look at it.
