Not this year. North believed their list was good enough to reject 3 firsts for pick 1 less than a year ago. Maybe next year if they're still bad.

The AFL have no choice but to give North one, if only to make the job appealing for their next senior coach like Clarkson.

In my opinion there is a fair degree of selfishness and short sightedness from people not wanting North to get a Priority Pick (not bothering to mention the trolls who want them to relocate cause that is just a pathetic, spiteful opinion not worth taking seriously)

Happy for a basketcase like Gold Coast to get the most generous assistance package ever for more than a decade of blunders and self inflicted crap, but a proud traditional Vic club like North Melbourne, who never had a PP before, gets frozen out.

They fought tooth and nail to stay as a Melbourne based club, and yeah under Brayshaw/Scott era they said they couldn't afford to bottom out/have an long extended rebuild, which maybe was the wrong call in hindsight, but more honour in that approach than blatantly tanking for early picks like several clubs (including my mob, Melbourne and Richmond did during that era)

They are now seemingly being punished for refusing to have a lose to win mentality (aka tanking for better draft picks)

What a strange footy community we have here.

North Melbourne haven't been bad for long enough to receive a priority pick. They were comparable in form to Adelaide, Hawthorn and Essendon in 2020 with all 4 teams dipping after mid-table finishes in 2019. They were bad at the beginning of last year but improved drastically in the second half of the year. Probably one of the more competitive wooden spoon sides in recent history after the bye.

They've only been truely bad this year, but even then they aren't the worst team. You can't just rush to give a priority pick to every team that has two years of bad form.

Gold Coast are different because they've been bad for a decade prior to receiving a priority pick. North were in finals contention as recently as 2019.
Giving North a priority pick this year sets a precedent for teams like Essendon, West Coast and Adelaide to request one if they have one or two more years of bad form.

Cant keep living in the past. Priority picks should be abolished.

You actually have some outstanding youth. I think you'll be a very good team in a couple of years. It just takes time and patience.
We won't be winning a game in 2023, and could easily go close to winless again in 2024.
But nobody should get priority picks, except expansion teams or very exceptional circumstances where a team loses large chunk of their side for reasons beyond their control. Should not have happened in the past, should not happen now.
