Guys, we have been in contention for the 8 for most of the year but after a couple of costly losses do we still stand a chance of making it?

We would have to win probably at least 3 of our last 6 games and these are against Bulldogs, Adelaide(away), Port Adelaide, Kangaroos, Brisbane(away) and the Hawks.

I see us beating Port and maybe(maybe) Adelaide and Kangas.

Thoughts?

My thought is this is a topic well worth discussing, but not worth a new thread.

On 7 wins at the moment champ. 4 wins minimum needed. really can't see it happening.. which is fine because we have improved in leaps and bounds this year

no we dont really have a chance.

we lost on two occasions to essendon and both games he should have won!!
if we had one those two games... it would be a different story
9-7 instead of 7-9

but thats a bit if...
next year we have to make sure we beat the teams that are worse than us.
we just cannot afford to lose to essendon 2 times!

yeah, those are the teams i think we can beat too.
we should keep pushing for finals, no point tanking but should play some kids, get surgery done for players (if they need it) and try some new stuff out.

My par before the year was 8 and I think that is what we will end up with. They are not the 8 I predicted we would win but it has been a strange ride

We'll smash the Doggies tomorrow, smash the Crows in Adelaide next week, flog Port and the Roos, lose to the Lions at the Gabba and then absolutely cream the Hawks in Round 22,.

Our last two games have been against Sydney and St Kilda -our biggest bogey sides of recent times.

We hadn't beaten St Kilda since round 20, 2001 and coming into our round 15 game they had won their last 10 games against us by an average of 54 points.

We hadn't beaten Syndey since roun 8, 2000 and coming into last week's game they had won their last 10 games against us by an average of 26 points.

Two teams who in recent time have barely let us touch the leather, and against St Kilda we started off dominating and almost looked like running away with the game, and against Sydney looked the stronger side almost all game in spite of Judd and Stevens being kept out of the game.

Considering the wood that these teams have held over us for so long, we showed immense improvement against St Kilda, and even more against Sydney.

I just can't help but get the feeling that each week we get closer to the 'clicking' as a team with a new gameplan and playing out four quarters of good footy (quite a feat with such a young side, but we have the talent).

This week we come up against a much improved team who we have previously matched up very well on. If the improvement of the past two weeks continues, we will definitely be right in the contest this week. Judd and Stevo can't both have 2 bad games in a row, and with the improvement that Gibbsy has shown over the last month and the speed and hunger for the contest that Walker brings, hold on for the biggest upset of the round so far.

And if we do manage to roll the dogs, we'll only need another 3 or 4 wins to play in September, and with the injection of confidence that beating the #2 team will bring, upcoming games against Adelaide, Port, Kangaroos and Brisbane suddenly become winnable so prepare for our board to be flooded with threads about us making finals again! :thumbsu:

WCE over the Saints have got this covered, with the hopeless Crows over the Swans a close second for mine, unless we beat the Dogs by 10 goals.
It is a round of upsets though.............Tiges, WCE, Crows, ?Freo.........

Could be on the cards, and the Dogs coming off a tough game last week.

3-4 wins out of 6 games.

IF we win today we could go close to the Crows next week. We seem to play well there, and I think we can match them up.

Then Port here the week after, we could potentially play the out of form Lions, and then a big game vs Roos on the back of 3 straight wins, with some senior players coming back......

But I tend to think not.;)

28 points (coming from 37 points down) enough for you?

Of course, why be excited when you can worry? :p

Fair cop.

I guess aat the 21 minute mark of the third Q I was looking o.k.

Anyway, glad to be proven wrong on this occasion. I guess you can understand why I don't bet BY.:D

We will need to win the next 4 to have any chance. 1 1/2 games out plus percentage (3 games out really) with 5 to go.

We would need to win at least 4 games and hope that those above us don't do anything much.

Great year though even if we don't move on. That win was worth 10 wins over the Dons and Tiges.
Will give the younfger boys a real belief........and maybe some hope that we are shaking the TD hoodoo.:thumbsu:

I wasn't much of a better until I saw that we were more than $6.00 to beat Port at AAMI in Round 11, then the monster was created.

Generally, I like to focus on all the reasons why we could win, but when I really believe that we will win, then I put my money where my confidnence is, and the boys are yet to let me down this year :thumbsu:

11 wins will get us into the 8 provided teams with higher percentages (Brisbane, Adelaide, Kangaroos) don't finish on 11 wins too.

It's all too close at this stage with positions 4 through 12 still essentially wide open and almost all upcoming games could go either way its so close.

I'm happy just to focus on Adelaide and Port for now, both winnable games that if successful could see us build up some serious momentum (3 wins in a row) coming into North, Bris and Hawthorn fresh from a 6 day break from a Sunday game at Subi :D

Whether or not we will need to win 1 or 2 of those last 3 games will become more apparent as we approach them.

Great year though even if we don't move on. That win was worth 10 wins over the Dons and Tiges.

At this stage I'm just happy that in one of the most even/unpredictable seasons which is creating one of the most exciting runs home in recent times, we're still right in it with a chance. We've come a long way from recent years where we'd have no choice but to be bitterly nonchalant about finals, missing out on the excitement while consoling ourselves counting our priority picks :thumbsu:

Yeah take it 1 game at a time. Midfield is coming together. Fevola finally didnt put he's head down. And the young Baklineis improving.

Starting to understand why Olympiakos were so pissed off. Gun.

I have to re-adjust my mindset for August.

Normally at this time of year I'm looking to the draft and pre-season.

There's hope!! Not sure how to handle that.......have to dig back into the memory banks and act like the natural order of things has been restored.:thumbsu:
