Competitions Do you hate St Kilda?

Overcoming the St K hoodoo was always an important milestone for mine and I hated them for that. But we beat them in 2012 (when it looked like we were gonna make finals) and I haven’t given them a single thought since.

I really only care about Richmond and don't give a **** about the wider AFL other than to dislike other teams in general, similar to the way an elephant dislikes flies - every now and then they pop up to annoy you and remind they exist, but for the most part you don't really think about them that much. And you know they probably serve some purpose but you're not quite sure what it is or whether its worth it.

I have always had a soft spot for them tbh.
Perhaps stemming from the 70's when collecting footy cards I always seemed to get plenty of old saint ones - Barry Breen, Stuart Trott, Cowboy Neale etc etc

Growing up my best mate was a Sainter's fan and I still remember when we kicked over 30 goals against them at the SCG to beat them by over 150 (you read that right final score was St. Kilda 11.4.70 to Richmond 34.18.222).

We gave Footscray a fair touch up that year too and I've had a bit of a soft spot for both clubs ever since -- it's not sympathy or pity, just a recognition that they've both been under-resourced compared with the big 4 of Victorian footy, so I admire them for their spirit and their fans for sticking with clubs that haven't had a huge amount of success. Say what you like about Saints fans, they aren't bandwagoners!

So, nah, very far from hating the Saints.

no , growing up they had beaten Collingwood in a GF - yeah

but then slipped back and haven't enjoyed great periods of success

even when they were down and out in the early 80's there crowd seemed tame
they were supposed to have an "animal pen" or something
I must have missed it or never been too close

No.

If we lose to them, I'm all on board the Saints train.

Likewise. Got nothing against them. Better that they win it than Brisbane, Port (who both got a massive advantage this year), Geelong or Collingwood.

I personally don't hate them. It's hard to hate a club that has been irrelevant to the rest of the competition for the vast bulk of it's history. Whose one premiership is a point of pride to them but also a source of constant neurosis. Indeed there are things to like about them. I've liked their logos, their colours, their nickname. I admire how they have managed to survive considering how hopeless they have been for most of their existence.

The one thing though that annoys me about them are their pretentions about being a big club. We all remember the 'were as big as Richmond' nonsense, which was such a source of amusement and ridicule, both among Richmond supporters but also the broader football community. Anyhow whenever I hear St Kilda big-noting themselves or trying to be as ruthless as a Richmond or a Collingwood because their a big club too, I think of the mouse that roared. It roared loud in 1966, it roared during the Doug Cox and Silvio Foschini affairs, it roars for gay pride and autistic kids (the later of which I am grateful for as I have an autistic daughter), but in the end it's still just a mouse. And when you're the biggest cat in the jungle that's all that really matters.

Such a 'meh' club for mine. I dislike them this week but outside of that i have no real interest in them

I hate em. Dwarf gate. Small pp gate. The thrashings they'd give us at dual shi. tholes Waverley and Colonial stadium. Steven Baker, disgusting player, look him up. Milne and Montagna, look those DH's up in case you've forgotten. Their dip shi .t supporters that you only ever hear from when they're going well. The waste of perfectly good wood over the years thanks to all the times they've won spoons.
