Colin Sylvia would be a good pickup and would be an instant upgrade on De Boer. Look how Moloney turned out for Brisbane. He's an unrestricted free agent aswell. Provided we could sort out his discipline issue.
Moloney really was tough and a club champion (and a douche). Sylvia is a flake, not hard at all, muscles made out of paper mâché, would go nowhere with a flog like him.

Whilst I think your criticism is a little harsh I agree I really do not want to see him at Freo.
Has the ability but not the desire to commit regularly. Probably under achieved but I guess one could ask is this a Melbourne Football club induced issue.
Still not prepared to take the risk and further more does not fill any of the gaps that we need filled.
Would clearly be surplus unless he grows taller and becomes a key position player.

De Boer is so over-rated on here. Yes he is hard as nails. Yes he can limit his opposition players effect on the game. Yes he is a solid player.
However, there are a few valid points to trade him off.
1. He has currency. A young fearless leader type with 100 games and finals experience. We are not going to get anywhere by talking about trading Crichton/ Lower types, we need to trade decent players.
2. Bond has stated that having too many players in one age group isn't ideal for the list management model. Out of the remaining 2008 group, he's the one we can afford to lose.
3. We need to improve in the forward line. Take out DeBoer out of the GF team, replace him with a medium/ key forward and we are a better side.

We go through this talk every year. Our middle tier players who know our system and play their role do not have currency. They will get us a 3rd round draft pick or worse (see Broughton) and are more valuable to us than to another team.

hating every player from every other team in the AFL is really getting boring

Wow. Who can add less value ;) I think you won.

I don't hate everyone, but if your going to throw my hard as nails buddy under the bus at least do it for a champ like chappy not a flake on the outer at a poor team ala Sylvia

I disagree. Sure Chappy has been the much better player, but surely he only has one season left in him. Sylia on the other hand has shown far less consistency, but has been at a very weak team & provided he bought in, could be a star at Freo

DeBoer will be our next tagger when Crowley finishes up. I agree he is borderline best 22 with a full list but to say if he is in the team we won't have improved is harsh.

He does some bloody good jobs each week with little recognition.

De Boer has more value to us than what we'd get for him in a trade. Even if he slips out of the best 22 next season, he still has value as an experienced plug and play back-up. There will be a few guys in this position in 2014.

Given the quality we have coming through in the medium/small HF/mids department De Boer looks in trouble in the short-medium term - would you prefer Mayne or De Boer as a defensive forward? - long term though, he would be an ideal Crowley replacement. He's not as good up forward as Crowley, he's far better at winning his ball on the inside though and his discipline can't be questioned.

with DeBoer vs Mayne as Defensive forward, to me it depends on who takes Mayne's place.

Crozier, Simpson, Michie, Duffy, Mellington one of this years draft picks? It could be anyone. Plenty of options though. The more talent in the team the better though.

With Mayne v De Boer you obviously lose out on a possible midfield rotation. Which is why someone who can rotate HF/mid along with Walters and Ballantyne would be ideal.

I just really like Mayne as the 4th tall. Less focus on being an attacking option, gets a lesser defender, just win-win all around I reckon.

yer, want him to be our Gunston
Personally I'd like our current forward line to look like this (Will do centre as well - Not followers)
C - Walters, Crowley, Hill
HF - Morabito, Fyfe, Mayne
FF - Ballantyne, Pavlich, Clarke

It's Tall and Quick, preferabley we get a KPF to play CHF, chuck Fyfe to the flank and have him Barlow,
Morabito and Mundy rotating through there.
With Walters, Ballantyne, Neale and Suban rotating through Forward Pocket

D. Pearce + S. Hill rotating back - creating good run but you could have D. Pearce forward i guess. (Rekon Morabito take's his place anyway.

I agree he wouldn't be in our best 22 next year, but nonsense to trade him. You don't win flags with a quality 22, you win em with a quality 30.

Just means his 24 games this year (or whatever) becomes 15. No biggy.

None of those players would get us pick 2. I don't even think all three of them could give us pick 2. They would definitely want someone like Fyfe/Barlow/Hill
I completely agree with.
Makes you wonder what the actual value of a top 3 pick is, if you were to forced to trade a freo player for this pick what would be considered to a reasonable deal for both parties? Johnson, Hill maybe

I think Hill - given he actually was pick 3 in the draft and he's highly rated. Probably not as special as he can be just yet but definitely has the potential. He has match-winning capabilities and amazing skills.

Im not sure why people are discussing trading De Boer. Nobody is suggesting that. What we are suggesting is that he'll be moved off the "best 21" into the "22-26" list in the club. We wouldn't get anything for him as a trade anyway.
