I was of the view to torture the guy and leave him stranded on 299... now I honestly don't want to see him on the field... in just a handful of games this year he's completely gone from someone we would of most part fondly remembered as a 280 odd game servant, to the devil incarnate.

I was have the opinion that he had one more year left in him.

Have a look at Simmo and Thomas - they were absolutely blitzing it, hardly dropped a step and were delisted - I was actually shocked Thomas got delisted.

Murphy just throws his had out at tackles, drops his knees if anyone touches him and hospital hand passes at the suggestion someone might come near him - another year.....its honestly beyond me what people see in this guy.

Disagree with this vehemently. There was a period of 8 seasons or so where every time he played I held my breath waiting for him to be hit again.

You don't come back from the types of injuries that he's endured and overcome if you don't put your body on the line regularly.

Say what you will about his past couple of seasons (I'm right there with everybody else) but prime Murphy put his head and body over the ball as much as we could have asked for.

You sure you aren't talking about kade Simposon ? Putting Murphy in the same basket as Kade Simpson is honestly quite absurd in my view.

Murphy was the single biggest shirker of the contest this club has had in years. Its literally what he is known for.

Each to his own - but there is just no way on this planet Murphy was hard at it with physicality - makes my blood boil that its even suggested when genuine hard at it players are in our team like JSOS, and were like kade .

Murph does not deserve to be in the 300 club. He must earn that privilege. He is playing like a bloke scared of being injured, at the moment.
For a bloke of his experience to be ineffective in pretty much every game he has played in recent times, is woeful.
Needs to put his head over the footy again, not turn his back on the play as often as he does and stop these nothing 35m pitching wedge kicks. Oh, and helping to defend when we don't have the ball would be good too.
Thanks for your service Murph, but time to hang 'em up.

That complete abandonment of Cripps on the wing was the biggest WTF moment ive had in footy for a while. Just, drifted off to go and check his TAB account ?

I just watched the first quarter again, and cursed Murph again for doing that. WTF was he thinking? Turns his back on Cripps, who is about 5m away with the ball and under pressure, and runs away from him.

Some of the comments here have been quite disrespectful to a former captain.. In saying this, I think we need to make a stand and move forward as a club and if this means Murphy doesnt make 300 then so be it..

We have had plenty of “former captains”, it means nothing if the player doesn’t produce anything. Yesterday it looked like Murphy totally just rage quit on his teammates and had his worst game of the year, which is quite the accomplishment.

If Marc Murphy was playing well, no one would have anything to say about him. At this stage I think it would irritate me more if the selectors dropped Murphy as a token gesture to the supporters for the next 2 rounds and still played for the 5 games required to get his 300 if he put in shocking performances.

I'd drop him for 2-3 weeks, make him play reserves.

Still more than enough time for him to get to 300, but his response to playing ressies for a few weeks would be very informative in regards to whether he deserves to get the milestone.

And if we hear so much as a peep about it in the media again, the 2's is where he stays. Carrying on as if we owe him.
He'd have been cut by now if he served this cr4p up at Geelong.

Yes, been a loyal great player for the club and he is better than plenty of players in the team. This team isn't making finals so getting Murph to 300 and Harry the Coleman is all we have left to do.

No need to play Dow ('the butcher') anymore, LOB is hopeless and SPS has had a million chances so get behind a club legend.

Don’t agree with this

Yep - though I'd also be discreetly attaching the condition that he has to lead and set a strong example in those reserves games. Not complaining isn't enough, he needs to perform.

Don't tell him that, just silently judge it and anything other than 110% commitment to the team ethos means he stays there.

The conversation I would have with him, while informing him he's being dropped, would be to ask whether he wants to try and limp meekly over the line to 300 games, or if he wants to make a real statement and go out guns blazing. See if that has any effect.

Loved him at his best, but he shouldn’t be getting to a 300th game.

he was poor yesterday, but there were a few who were poorer and it’s looking likely he will get to 300 mainly due to a lack of players stepping up to take his spot. An indictment on the club really, that a player will skate to 300 games regardless of the quality of his football.

He’s playing badly enough and there are a number of young kids who need real game time before the end of the year, so as it stands I’d say no.

I was trying to be funny, but I don't think anyone got the joke.

100% agree with you on Daisy. I'm still angry about it.

Gibbs was one of the most talented underachievers ever. I still remember him in the background spewing up after one his best ever games. I really feel like they were both just so conditional.

I always wanted Simmo, Kruze, types - but no.

Murphy and Gibbs typify the malaise of Carlton over the past two decades - they really sum it up.
I would of liked Murphy to go to a geelong a couple of years ago -- I doubt he would of played much football after the first year I think he stayed knowing it was safe at carlton 2010 -12 he was fantastic but injuries or whatever saw a huge drop off in his impact as a player - same as when Gibbs went to Adelaide was shown up for the conditional talent he was ..

Being a former captain doesn't mean anything, you earn respect through your actions and how you conduct yourself on the football field on and off until your final game where you hang up your boots.

I couldn't care less if he was captain or not, he would of made at least 5 million+ playing for our football club, if not more, hardly hard done by for kicking a leather ball through some sticks.

He's not off to fight the Japs in WW2.
