That is that has Ton of Talanet but does not use it very often and Can look lazy on the Ground when he is playing. Both showed talanted but never kept it up.

Does anyone agree with this?

Yeah, I agree. Wood often looks like he doesn't give a shit and Egan just seemed like an Aboriginal footballer (obviously not all Aboriginal players are like this, but a lot of them go missing in games/look lazy/inconsistent).

This thread would be a hell of a lot funnier if you reversed the players' names!

To answer your question, dunno. Ruckmen take time to develop. Give him time Dave....

Wood has talent - not sure if he has a ton of talent.

As for the laziness thing - he was one of the players that accompanied Didak to Arizona a week early last year for the pre-season training camp - this suggests to me that not only is he not lazy, but that he is willing to work hard to improve himself.... and if this continues the results will come.

Ruckmen usually take longer to mature - have a look at Darren Jolly as an example - he struggled to make his mark at Melbourne, but in the last year and a bit he's become a very good player.

After a while you start to sound like a broken record in saying this; but we need to be patient.

I am not the only 1 saying that - Should we Excpect Wood to Explode later in the Season because of the Arizona Work he did?

Lanky ruckmen always cop shit for looking insipid at times. Fraser has for years!

It seems, and Malthouse is a party to this prejudice (which I call 'lankism'), that harder bodied rucks aren't quite as spaz when they tire.

Even if Bryan kicks into the man on the mark five times in a game resulting in direct goals to the opposition, a lanky Wood who doesn't dominate will cop more wrath than someone like Bear (see NAB Cup final).

This is the curse of the lank! Dean Cox is the ultimate crossover, in that he is both hard-bodied and lanky (which usually packages with good around the ground skills).

Agree Bryan is a Turnover Machine but he never gets any bad Critisim:mad:

Lankism - I love it.

i stand by the fact that we got duped by Brisbane and WAY over paid for a ruckman that has moderate skill and shows little desire...

i know the big boys take longer to develop - but Wood IMHO hasn't shown anything to suggest i am wrong

Errr Dave, did you really just say Bryan never gets criticism? Wow.....interesting theory.
Not from Many People and People who think he is better then Wood - I think are Delisounal

Jesus Dave, cool it a bit! You can't have instant results in everything. Instant stars, instant improvements, instant solutions. Sometimes "instant" isn't an option. No, don't expect him to "explode" anytime. Expect him to get back into and progress through continuing work, training and endeavour.

Also, he's nothing like Egan. Eags was a hugely skilled natural talent who got as far as he did without real effort and never realised that the final piece of the puzzle involved hard work, intensity and dedication. Wood has nowhere near the natural talent but he does have the application and he does have sufficient talent to make it. Like anyone else, he's no certainty at this stage but he's shown enough to suggest he can. It's not as if he's been languishing for years (a la Richards) so let's give him some more time. One thing that is evident is that his confidence is shot at present and he's just finding it difficult to commit himself - he thinks "Oh shite, I might make a fool of myself here." and hesitates. I think it's this that makes him look a bik lacksadaisical at times, not laziness. Egan was lazy.

I don’t know why people keep claiming Egan had a lot of talent. His first game was poor, his first 3 kicks were on the full and he didn’t improve much on that. Egan was just a draft mistake – a punt that didn’t pay. On being drafted we heard all about x-factor but honestly the x only stood for the rating applied to the expletives on seeing him play. The scouting reports were just plain wrong.

Wood has shown a bit. He is the type of player that takes time. The jury has to be out on him but he wouldn’t be the first ruckman to make great strides after 4 or 5 years in the AFL. In fact that is more the norm. Christ people claim Hille is some sort of star after half a season. He didn’t even make the state side last year. Cox wasn’t even drafted in the main draft and he was a poor second fiddle to Gardiner for a few years. When Gardiner missed WCE lost. Luenburger (sp?) has done bugger all to date. Jason Ball took a long time. wood is at least as good as Jolly.

The word is Wood needs to get his priorities sorted. Game day on a Saturday or game night on a Saturday night?
Why is he still Partying to Much and Girl Trouble?

Not to sure about Wood, i hope he comes good, God knows Josh needs a hand.
I was surprised we didn't go for King, a big solid ruck, who would have given Wood more time to build on his frame, and we could have had King for a warm beer and a cold pie.
Still, Wood is young and as we know most ruckmen take until their mid 20's before they become a solid contributer week in week out.

True we should of gone for King as the Saints got him for Nothing and as you said it would of given time for Wood to Develop but I think the reason we got Wood becasue we agreed to play him in the AFL and that's why he left the Lions

Why is he still Partying to Much and Girl Trouble?

Brisbane moved him on owing to extra curricular activities influencing his onfield exploits. Doesn't look to have changed much, I think Wood is the most disinterested player I've seen since Tazza.

This is spot on.

People tend to immediately associate high draft pick with talent. Egan was no more talented than Julian Rowe or any of the other athlete-type hacks that haven't turned out.

not being that guy that likes to rat on people but i see him at the beach hotel very often on sat night... I have seen him there twice in the past once month with pendles and i don't know the second time. I'm pretty sure they have a private room upstairs that they go to.

You know what i hate so much about AFL footy players. they take so much for granted. They think that everything is to be given to them for nothing. If i was AFL footy player i wouldnt be doing any partying during the season, just putting my all into becoming the best i can of my ability.

Funny first year Dale Thomas @ Room in Hawthorn on the podium for about 3 hours non stop. EVERY WEEK. same podium and same level of trashyness. Guessing he hasnt changed his ways too much
