Loved English's game today. Was being manhandled by Xerri but fought back hard after half time.
Wow thought the opposite, maximum impact but he got absolutely mauled by Xerri which is why North were always in the game until 3rd qrt. well done Tim but against a decent side we are stuffed with that performance

Onto the game. Our defensive foibles are a concern but it’s not panic stations.

Usually we get hurt by how we hand it back to teams. We try and be methodical which invites pressure which can get ugly. Having said that, our craft and skill in congestion helps us not play well and routinely smash teams by 50,60 and 70 points.

Tonight we got murdered early in centre clearance. It was mainly the first quarter where it was just completely out of control. I can handle the ones where Xerri has English cooked and they get a deep entry which we can’t defend.

I get grouchy though when we actually get first possession and we do a dinky handball which feeds the momentum of 3-4 surging opposition bodies. Early in games I think we need to just get into the contest and get it going forward. Once the mids are comfy then they can rolls Royce through the other team.

Defence is an issue but we’ve got time to improve

Had a look at the GameDay thread on the way home.
These people can't even celebrate the club on Libbas 250.
Asterisks needed to disguise vile language.
Constant crying about umpires instead of enjoying our play.
These people need to be jailed, they are a lonely joke.

Great game,big win,life moves on.
If you need support, call the numbers readily available.
Probably best to stay off the internet if it upsets you

It’s literally the difference between decent and great midfielder. Plenty of grafters out there that can win a ball and do nothing with it.

I like Garcia but I don’t know if he’ll make it. West’s progress / reinvention as a forward should give me hope. But I don’t know if Garcia could ever be anything other than an inside mid.
Liked him tonight better than McNeil this year

You really need to get your head around the idea that the game day threads are there for people to vent their frustrations.

Because its getting pretty ****ing tiresome seeing your faux outrage and bleating about every week.
People need friends.
Not an excuse to act like criminals because they are.....
There are avenues for these people to get help.

If you're going to troll the board.

Try doing it with some originality and humour.

Its transparent what you're doing and its not close to being amusing.

You're just becoming repetitive and boring.

Lift.

Jeez you'd be filthy with umps as a North fan. They were disgraceful.

Libba was huge. Beast.

Was a good test tonight. North brought a high intensity. Hopefully holds us in good stead vs Crows.
There were a couple of bad decisions in the last for sure, and they stay in your head. However I could not believe how little protection our players got with all of the holding, straggling, and arm-chopping that was going on.

Sat on level 1 same price as level 3, watching was different there, the pace of the game was full on in first half and with contact it showed how hard the game is to umpire. Darcy was mauled in the first quarter and this continued but on reflection the problem is the umpires don’t work as a team. One is watching the ball in the contest but there needs to someone looking forward of the ball and another behind the ball as the vision is too much for an individual.

So many players were blocked when attempting to mark and then interference in the contest was so obvious but ignored.
The norfies put on a show worthy of a centenary celebration, so many lost their minds, fortunately the defibs were handy.

I have a feeling it's on more than just Pratt. So many of the goals are due to the ball transitioning forward with no pressure. Our defenders aren't playing well but the midfield and forwards aren't making their job any easier
This. A lack of pressure upfield, combined with our high press can leave us exposed to 1 on 1s or quick transitions. If we play the high press and bring numbers up to the ball, we always run the risk of being scored against on transition as it leaves so much space in the backline. It can be a tough gig in our backline, especially if the mids are getting beaten, as was the case in the first half. Mids got on top in the second half and no surprise Norfs scoring dried up.

I thought Garcia was pretty good and broke a few tackles / a few nice steps through traffic to get the ball out?
He did fine but the apparent knock on him from the coaches is that he rushes his disposal and it happened a few times tonight.

I’ve always thought he had potential and should force McNeil out. He’s been given the West treatment really. Hope it pays off.

Is it a troll though? Or just some puritan trying to fit in by appearing to follow a team?

Getting Barrass into that defense, when it was mooted he may have been coming to us last year, would have been huge. Bloody Hawthorn, again. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a hell of a lot of improvement to be had at the moment with our current list of defenders. Unless one or both of Walker and Sellwood really impress. I'm dreaming of a coup where Weitering has finally had enough of tragic Carlton and gets on the phone to his manager to "just get me to the Whitten Oval."
Barrass type is exactly what we need down there. It’s a key post missing and what we need to shake up the teams above us.

A good Thursday night at the footy at Marvel. Very solid win in the end and we make it 4 wins in row. North certainly for a fair portion of the match had our measure. We have bigger fish to fry in the coming weeks against finals type teams in Adelaide next Saturday at Marvel and Brisbane up at the Gabba.

Great game by Naughton who has recaptured some form and Darcy got into the game after it was a bit of a struggle early. Richards was very good as was Libba in his 250th. English did good as well. The offensive game is really going well.

The concern is definitely our defence as the champion data stats tell us and Bevo and the coaching team will definitely need to get the structure right down there for when we face those stronger teams. Wasn't great when we allowed Nick Larkey 4 goals in that first quarter and not able to quell his influence so need that to be much better. We aren't very good 1 on 1 in defence. Plenty to work on.

The line was 48, so I'm not sure why many are so unhappy with a 49 pt win. Yes t wasn't a brilliant flogging, but we got the job done, and I thought north played well. Was a mature win in the end against a team that came to play.

Xerri is absolutely elite in my eyes top 2 ruck in the league, so I was rapt with English's effort, he has been absolutely mauled by him the last few times we played them, but thought English competed strongly all night and went close to halving the tap outs.

Well done libba on 250 magnificent games, will be hard pressed to ever find a more heart and soul dog, maybe his old man.

Would Bevo allow him to play back shoulder or is he going to have to play in front?

I thought our half forwards West and Vandermeer played good games tonight. They kicked one goal between them - the last of the match - but they did their job by bringing energy, applying pressure and giving off GAs (2 each). Also Score Involvements (VDM 6, West 5). This was particularly important because our midfield wasn't functioning at its best.

It shows HFs don't need to kick a whole lot of goals - they just need to help the forward line function the way it should.

Wow - just 25,000 to see the 100th year celebration. Yes it was on a school-day Thursday and they are playing poorly but by my reckoning of 65% were Roos supporters so around 16,000 of them turned out and half of L3 was closed to allow the tv to show a crowd. I do worry about the serious in balance of supporters and I wish them the best.

An enjoyable game still in the balance at 3/4 time with some nice cameos.

Any update on O’Donnell?
He said on the post game TV that he was fine. Looked dodgy though. No doubt they'll have a good look at it after he cools off and through next week.
