Nope. Darling, Yeo, Emac, Hurn, Gov, Lycett, Sharrod (unbelievably), Nicnat, Ellis, Bennell, are all people i regularly pump up.

It's just our stellar midfield i have a problem with :(

I was talking about our young guys coming through, particularly our mids. You don't seem to give them much credit when they do something well. We've just had our crap midfield beat two of the best midfields on paper where their so called guns couldn't beat our so called spuds, so they deserve some credit for that. A lot of that was down to young guys who have been written off fairly heavily as no good by plenty in here, doing shut down jobs or taking the game on to our advantage. I agree with you that we don't have the greatest mids on the planet, but I would prefer if some of these young guys were given more time by everyone before denouncing them.

You're talking about your son? Hutchings? Well how did you rate his 'shut down' of Heppell yesterday?

Well Sheed aside who else is there? Scooter, Masten are both perma B graders. I've pumped up Masten a bit in my previous post.

We all know what i think of Priddis.

Shuey and Gaff have both been good recently. We've won the past 2 weeks because of these 2 players more then anyone else. Potential A graders if they can keep it going and work on pushing through a tag and standing up when it matters.

I'm undecided on Sheed yet. He shows moments of potential brilliance with the odd side step and movement. His shanks at the moment could be attributed to still acclimatising to the pace and keeping eyes lifted when they need to be down.
Far too early to say I think.

MacKenzie was bagged out without mercy on here in his early days. People also wrote of McGovern before he even got near a game despite being impressive in intraclub games. Sometimes I think a lot of people on here actually want our players to fail for some ****ed up reason.
Glass and Hunter copped it bad early, especially Glass.

Don't think people want to see them fail, but I think they don't or can't think through the reasons why they're not playing to their (probably unrealistic) expectations. Then they become angry and emotional with their statements.

99% of that came form Masto though, who still is looking to talk him down at every opportunity.

I was talking about a few guys, Hutch, Cripps, Gaff, Shep and more. Hutch kept Heppell quiet til half time which is when Hep was shifted to half back and Simpson himself said he was relying on someone else in the back line to shut him down and it didn't work, so he moved Hutch back on to him but by then the horse had bolted. Hutch was very good with ball in hand yesterday, hitting up some good targets and using it well, but gets no plaudits while Shuey couldnt hit a target for most of the first half bar one 5 minute effort and he's at the top of votes. It's clear people need to be a bit more objective and give these kids time.

Anyone who compares Sheed to Priddis is laughable.
Sheed is at least half a step quicker than Priddis. Thank God.
But Priddis is far better at getting the ball in a contest.

Sheed shows glimpses of what he will be, and it looks to be a very smooth poised inside mid with the stop time ability of Pendlebury. But until then, he has a LOT to learn. Still, glimpses give us hope.

Give sheed time people

I didn't like the hand gesture to get guys to lead at him and then fumbled the ball ......

Mate your jib is to kick ....there's is to lead

That said it showed he cared and he's competitor

He will be a good player ....rosa type .....not quick but very handy

The kids played 5 games and people are bagging him out.

Cox couldn't run when he came to the club. He fixed that didn't he?
His disposal is better than Priddis', **** he can spot up people with lace out kicks. He did it to Darling yesterday.
He can evade tackles and kick 50 meters under pressure. He has shown he can make good choices and takes the time needed to do so. He will get used the pace of AFL and be a good midfielder for us.

People forget Lewis Jetta kicked 30 odd behinds or something before kicking a goal. They should have dumped him shouldn't they?

FFS.

Ashley Macintosh looked all at sea early too

Roas didn't impress me early either

Agree ....need 50 -75 games before judging a player

While I have nothing wrong with the rest of your point this was a bad example. That kick to Darling was an overcooked kick to Shuey that missed the target badly, he got lucky.

One fault in his kicking he tries to kick it with a slight hook action ...as in slightly across the ball

Which leads to the odd shank .......

He will get better at that though so not too worried about that

Haven't heard of him, sounds like an interesting prospect :D

On topic, Sheed is slowly getting there. He has still only played a handful of full games, and even those are on greatly reduced TOG. He has shown moments of excitement, class, composure and good skills. He just needs time to get acclimatized to the AFL. Persist with him, and give him a full pre-season (last one was affected by his broken collarbone) and we'll see him do some great things in years to come. Good prospect.

Exactly.

I just never saw enough upside in picking him. Was furious when it actually happened.

Anyway, who knows, he might end up maturing into something special, but I'm not getting too excited.

yep not sure if this has been posted but we traded pick 6 for 11 and others in that "recruiting brilliance" James Aish went at 7. he is the one I want at this stage. like you guys said if nobody else must have rated him top 10

A lot of people on this board always write off players way too early.

It's a by-product of our instant gratification society. Obtaining success in football is all about measured growth, hard work and medium to long term investment in all areas (players included).

In our case it's also a by-product of having only three Rising Star nominations in the past 100 rounds of football (3% of the competition's young talent?)

Have a Rising Star in your team doesn't guarantee success (for the player or the team). Developing a player into a consistent contributor who will play an influential role in the team should be the ultimate goal. While some young players i.e. Heppell, Judd, Selwood can do this immediately they are few and far between.

Have been impressed with Sheed the last couple of games. Always reckon you can see elite qualities in players even in their first handful of games.

For sheed that appears to be composure under pressure, doesn't want to simply get rid of it, rather assess and get the best option.

Has been caught and also not executed well at times, but you can't be the complete package straight away. Fair to say I am impressed with the lad

My bad

Give young players time I say

The way players train these days a new player is coming in against men with seasoned experience

I think in the old days a young player may have had some advantages as in being quick against the old blokes

Whereas now a new player is 3 to 4 pre seasons behind the 75 -100 game players

He's a good kick so long as he doesn't try to drill every kick hard ......

Exactly this. It's great to see him be patient and try to wait for the best option. It hasn't come off too well just yet, but i expect it will come in time.
