Donkey Kong Country Returns (Wii)

Bought this for the missus on Sat'd and sat down and played it with her on Sat'd and Sunday, but it's just not my cup of tea.
Platform games tend to frustrate me mostly, but there's an extra element added when you've got to either wait for or keep up with another person.
As a single player game it's much better, but still not my idea of a great game.

After having it for a week or so, I much rather Super Mario Bros in both single and multi player. I like how SMB expands the screen more so it's harder to 'kill' the other player but DKC doesn't allow that as much. It's a pretty good game, but it's not as good as SMB.

Anyway, I'm up to the 4th world or something like that. It has it's difficulties which is nice but nothing too hard for little kids I wouldn't imagine.

jorel6669 - I got it at JB too on the same night. ;)

World 5 boss is a bitch by yourself, but much easier multiplayer.

I don't like how may lives you lose in multiplayer, but i like that you can't run into each other like MB (even though it's fun throwing each other around).

I think this game is judged way too harshly IMO.

When you make platformers, your obviously a bit restricted what you can do gameplay wise. They've got the balance between a slightly new gameplay experience and paying homage to DKC perfect.

Soundtrack and background visuals make this such a beauiful game that you forget you're playing a Wii game.

Absolutely loving it so far.

Loved Donkey Kong on nintendo 64 (still have) and hope this is anything like it sounds. Really want this and the new Goldeneye (which I have the original on n64 also)

Keep in mind it's more like Donkey Kong Country on SNES (2d platformer) rather than DK64 (3D platforming).

Finally beat this game today.

Loved every minute of it. I'm tempted to play through again to collect everything but I know it will probably get too frustrating for me. I'm hoping retro do another DK because they done an excellent job!

After almost getting through World 6 now, interest has started to wane a bit.

The difficulty (which though enjoyable) encourages step by step repetition and memory of each section, that the level of concentration required totally takes your attention away from the beautiful visuals.

And the lack of variety between worlds, and no water based levels is a bit disappointing.

That being said still shits over majority of games out there, and is still enjoyable and highly addictive.

First game I've decided to go back through and get everything.

I've got all the puzzle pieces up to world 5 now...I hate the friggin cart levels and barrel levels....Well I love them, just hate the difficulty of them!

dont mind this game kinda on the same line as super Mario bro's game. wii could easy do the same kinda thing with the wonderboys games.

Except Nintendo don't own the rights to Wonderboy and I think Sega do. So Sega would have to make it and judging on their attempts to bring Sonic back I don't think they'd do a good job.

I got this game for Christmas and am now up to world 7.

I've just given up for today because the stupid rocket level is doing my head in.

Rocket levels are the worst, I've always found having a break and going back to it helps alot. Alot more than smashing the controller and/or Wii. :D

That level was hard enough without collecting anything. I'm not looking forward to playing that level again.

the k levels are absolute bastards!

Excuse my ignorance but what are the k levels?

Damn the rocket levels too hell. hard enough to pass let alone grab all the goodies along the way.

Finished the big boss but still need 3 orbs to enter the Golden Temple.
Agree with the earlier comments that the k levels are absolute bastards to pass especially given that they dont have any save points.

All that stands in my way is is that bloody muncher level and the last rocket level. Got a feeling that I'll still be saying that right to the point that I drop kick the Wii all the way down the street.

Was never a huge fan of the underwater levels so I dont miss them here and the mine cart levels were not as hard as I thought they may be but the freaking rocket levels sure make up for them.

Highly addictive game and a heap of fun.

K levels are inaccessible until you collect all the KONG letters in each level of the world you are in.
They are generally shorter than the other levels but are much harder and dont have any save points so each death sends you back to the start.

At completion you receive an orb which will allow you to access the golden temple once you have completed the whole game. You need to collect all 8 in order to open the door.

Good luck with that.
