Hi guys,

Was having a chat on the Ablett Gold Coast chatter board and came up with an idea...

Our next home game on Sunday 4th of July at 1:10, we should ALL make signs to say "Don't go Gazza" or something similar. Tell as many people as you can via BigFooty, Facebook, word of mouth etc.

I think it's worth a try to show in a positive light how us supporters feel.

It would be amazing if we could get many to do it, for the cameras to capture it too.

We as supporters can't really do anything about the situation but we can only try to let him know how much we love him and want him to stay.

If your in, fantastic the more the better! If not and you think it's a silly idea, keep it to yourself :thumbsu:

Not sure it's a good idea to create another media storm about this issue. Sorry, nice thought but it really is a shocking idea. GF celebration day is a better forum.

I totally support this. Finally there will be an opportunity for fans to express their positivity towards Gary. If he had the time to read some of the disloyal posts on this board, he might think we couldn't give a stuff about him.

Many of us have felt helpless and frustrated at the daily gossip & negativity from apathetic commentators. Now is the time to be proactive. The best thing that can happen is that it pushes Gary more towards staying. The worst that can happen is that it has no effect and that he leaves anyway. At least we will have tried as a community.

Would be good to have the Geelong Advertiser on side for promotion & even lift-out posters to display at the ground on the day.

If he doesn't know by now what he and his family mean to the City of Geelong, the club and its supporters than I guess it will never fully dawn on him irrespective of what anyone does in the next 4 months.

I remember before the Essendon game in Round 1, people outside the ground were handing out those small banners with "Goal" on one side and "Go Cats" on the other, which were sponsored by NIB IIRC. Would be good if someone did something similar with "Don't Go Gaz" on them.

Cant hurt. Will be nice to have his name mentioned with something positive for a change. Especially if/when the media get hold of it.
Hope the idea takes off and i get to see 20,000 "Dont go Gaz" signs at
KP that day.:thumbsu:

He already understands how loved he is by Geelong supporters.

It is a privilege to play in the hoops, especially this iteration of the Geelong team. No player is bigger than the club, and we have worked long and hard to build a culture that reflects this.

I don't like the idea of begging him to stay. He doesn't deserve our scorn if he chooses to leave, but on the flip side I don't think we as supporters should be organising any special effort to convince him to stay. It smacks of the whole "we are not worthy" culture that Geelong has worked so hard to eradicate.

Either he buys into this or he doesn't. C'est la vie.

Why not? How many times over the years has the Kardinia Park crowd lifted the team and inspired a Cats victory? Get the Advertiser behind this one.

Maybe some people could organise a tin rattle, with all money going to Jr

"Give that he may not go" :D

Whilst I support this idea, I do think that Hinkley29 has a point.

Maybe a "we love u gazza" day rather than a begging to stay day.

Lets celebrate Gazza rather than Beg.

Don't forget there are another 21 players out their that need our support too...

Hi cupcake, why don't you ring the Geelong Addy and speak to the editor or a sports editor or ring the club and speak to Frank. Get them to give you support on the day, sound them out and see what they say and take it from there, maybe Melbourne supporters could show a bit of love at the upcoming game against the bombers, once you start the ball rolling the idea should take off!
Go for it ! and Goodluck!

We are Geelong !!!

I agree with this.

Make a facebook group so we can all invite our Geelong supporting friends ;)

It is a good idea, but i believe it will have a negative impact on the club. If the cameras see signs everywhere saying "Gazza stay, we love you" which they will, then after the match the media will be asking Bomber, "How about those Ablett signs today ? They really don't want him to leave". Bomber will just reply, "We are focused on our footy, not Ablett signs".

I had the same idea a couple of days ago. How good would it be if 25,000 supporters held up signs say "Don't go Gazza".

Maybe we can get onto a Printing Company that can produce a heap of signs and hand them out before the game?

Maybe the Addy could do a double page poster much like the "I Believe" poster last year and just include them in the Addy. People could then take them to the game and hold them up if they wish.

Agree. He is incredibly good but is just one player at the end of the day. Our success has come on the back of excellent team efforts from all 22 players over the last 3/4 years.

I'm convined that Ablett will go - not really considering any other options at this stage. Personally, I'd say he's mad if he does'nt take the offer from Gold Coast and privately, I know it's a view held by a number of his team mates (Mooney hinted as much earlier in the year).

I see it this way. Ablett won't want to be seen as a money chaser. A 'contact' of mine reckons he's as good as told the GC he's signing but there's some negotiating still to take place. If he signs a 'worthless' 1 year deal with Geelong on October 1st (when he's out of contract) it will then force GC to deal with Geelong to secure Ablett's signature. Ablett will see this as a solution to ensuring that Geelong obtain maximum compensation for the club that has supported and developed him.

Geelong could then 'up the anty' and ask for 2 of GC's top ten draft picks which I reckon would suit all parties if Ablett going has become a foregone conclusion. If a deal can't be struck - he stays at Geelong - but I doubt GC would let that happen. GC know he's worth 2 top ten picks and they will deal.

Ablett get's his million dollar+ contract .... he leaves Geelong knowing they've been fairly compensated .... and Selwoods manager excercises the 'Ablett clause' in Joel's contract which see's him get more money and become a Cat for life.

Ablett has been good for Geelong - as have the club to him. If a deal is to be done I reckon it could logically pan out this way and we should all accept that it's going to happen. Ask yourself - if you loved going to work every day in a successful culture -with good friends - and plenty of support ..... but then got an offer on double the money to take on a new challenge - in a new frontier - in the best climate in Australia ...... would'nt you think seriously about going ?

There's a "Keep Gary Ablett at Geelong" group on Facebook already, although I guess another group wouldn't go astray.
