Its been removed now that valve made make data private default. It was about who you beat i think, if your team's average is 1200 and you beat a team full of players ranked 2000, then your rank sky rockets up to 2000. If you beat low ranked players then your rating doesnt move, lose and you drop. Sort of like ELO rankings.

Only way to check now is to go into Dota 2. Watch tab > Recent Games > Add your name to Filter and select between normal, high, Vhigh. Gives a rough estimate of the skill level your playing against.

I'm a reasonably good player (in terms of public games anyway). Funnily enough Luna is probably my best hero. I play pretty well as most carry heroes, and I'm a reasonable support too.

There are Aussie servers if you are talking about Yanks in your Dota 2.

Play the tutorial. It's nothing like the real thing, but at least you get told about denying and the sort.
