Firstly re Tails quote, I agree that Bradley is the only recycled player we would be interested in and at just 22 years of age with 49 games under his belt, he's ready to realize his true potential in a new environment.

I'd pinch him prior to the PSD and cut Freo's lunch.

I dearly hope that Brad Ebert falls to our first pick, but wouldn't be overly upset with either Myers or Rioli in that order, as they both would give that speed that Ticktak is referring to.

It's probably over the odds for Rioli but he won't be there for our 2nd pick.

Assuming that we do nab a gun mid-fielder with our first pick I would be looking for a quality quick crumbing forward with our 2nd - if still available (might have been at #22 but we'll have a little laugh about that later if we miss out ).
Agree with your thinking 95% ....although small forwards generally go late or not at all.

IMO you could pick one up with #59 or even in the PSD.

I wouldn't use #27 on a small forward ....I'd go another midfielder ....2 with #10 and 27

Just wondering from the 7 picks we will have in the draft this year, providing we don't take any player in the PSD i would like to know what you guys though of the following players:

10 – Brad Ebert (Midfielder), 2/4/90, 188cm, 86kg – Port Magpies
27 – Andy Ottens (Utility), 15/5/89, 191cm, 88.8kg – Oakleigh Chargers
30 – Brendan Whitecross (BP/HBF/Wing/Mid), 25/1/90, 183cm, 79kg – Zillmere
38 – Tom McNamara (Utility/HBF), 29/4/90, 189cm, 84kg – South Adelaide
58 – Tom Rockliff (Small Fwd), 22/2/90, 180cm, 78kg – Murray
71 – Nick Salter (Fwd), 30/7/87, 188cm, 84kg – WWT
75 – Taylor Walker (3rd Tall Fwd), 25/4/90, 191cm, 84kg – Broken Hill

Like your choices

1. It's 50/50 as to whether we get Ebert ......we need a couple of draft smokeys to go top 10 for that to happen IMO.

But this draft is so unpredictable that Ebert to us is a possibility

I'd be happy with Rioli, or Myers as alternatives ....Grimes IMO a good pickup but not at #10 ....that's too early

I know I harp on this but #22 may have given us Grimes or Maric ....but both will be gone by #27.

2. I love Otten :thumbsu: ......for some reason he gets undervalued but he's a fantastic mark and mobile. Not your classic footballer but gee he has IMO an ability to be a real good player at AFL because of his hands and mobility. Will not be a KPP but a third tall.

3. Only other player I've seen play is Salter .......don't reckon he'll be there at #71. I'd snap him up and you may find we might have to give #38 for him.

Could be a welsh replacement and make a good FF

Yeh we all would have loved to have pick 22, but lets hope thats the first and last bit of stupidity Rendel costs us, but i guess theres no point in crying over spilt milk. If we had a choice of ebert or myers i would take myers personally, but i'm not too convinced about taking rioli at 10 (just cant see him being a midfielder) and if u compare him and tambling (who still hasn't settled into the middle for the tigers) it really puts huge question mark over him. I know my self think grimes is a bit too early to go at 10 but the talk has been he is a faviourate amongst a lot of the recruiters, mainly because he would be a safe bet and gives 100% all the time.

The only reason i put Salter at 71 WW, is because he might be a bit like of a Westoff last year and IMHO i think the only other club that would pick him up other then us is Port and from what i read on afl.com they are more interested in Grima (Williams compared him to what rodan did last year at training). Also i don't think we will be able to get a small forward at 71 so i used it to get rockliff (who i haven't seen, just read the description from VC and stats from TAC cup) but he seems like a real hand 'underrated' pick.

Who would u have us taking at 71?

Whether its a right choice or not and we all pretty much agree to no KPP for our first pick, but... I would not be very suprised if we picked up David Gourdis with #10, looks to be a supreme athlete, #1 vertical leap and 20 meter sprint at draft camp and also #6 in repeat 30 meter sprints. To me he sounds like the kind of player NC would love, similar to perhaps a VB, except in key position form. He can play, crash packs and take a grab and unlike Watts, Meesen and Angwin sounds as if he'd be one to actually work hard for a spot and not expect it to happen. If we were to go tall, as we may need to to get full value out of the #10 pick, he'd be the one i'd get.

Great call on Otten, by what i have read on BF, I cannot understand why he would last till our #27 pick, would not at all be disappointed.

As for Salter, by the sounds we will pick him up, only 38 i'd say may be too early, I just think his lack of height, 188cm I think it is will put a few clubs off him.

Another KPF I'd be interested in with a later pick, maybe 38 is Robbie Tarrant, a big boy who could be a gem at 38, but could also flop, however with a #38 pick, you'd get over it. Has had various question marks, one was fitness, but by the sounds he worked hard and actually impressed in this area. Also, unlike a lot of our early picks, our later ones seem to realise that they are not walk ups and that they actually have to work to get a spot in the side, thats why we have had a fair bit of success with later picks lately. The boy has an X-factor in his agressive game style and big body, similar to that of Gheric or Fevola and would put fear the hearts of defenders.

Although we have Sellar, Walker and Tippet as up and coming forwards, I think we do have to grab 1 or 2 more and maximise our chances of finding a gem. Hawthorn recruited a heap of tall forwards, granted they did have a few high picks, but now they have an abundance of options. Even if we do have a few too many KPFs are very valuble come trade week.

Quite like the idea of taking a couple of local Sth Australians with last few picks .......Salter would definately be one .....the other who I think could be a great small forward with defensive skills is Petrenko who's not rate to go in most drafts but who I think will be OK.

Don't think Salter will be under anyones radar ....and in a weak draft he'll be chosen ....just where and by whom?

Gourdis certainly is a good player but I still think we'll go midfielders as that is greatest need .......and we overlooked Edwards (a future star) last year to get Tippett to go with Sellar.

Think we'll do the same this year and overlook tall talent and go mids first two picks.......particularly as there apparently isn't a lot of quality mids in the draft.

Yep agree Otten will still be around at 27 but if so IMO he'll be around for our pick 30 as well which is where I think he'll sit.

Also agree that Salters height of 188cm may put some clubs off.

Tarrant .....well some say he's a slow moving forward but he tested well for speed at the DC .....he's being taked up & down at the same time .....so who knows there ;)
