Interesting too see if we place on Will Setterfield from Sandringham.
190cm 80kg midfielder.
Has been up and down but reckon we would be very keen if he was on the open draft.

Powell-Pepper 30 in the goalkicking wow that's a fair effort and could help him out.
Although I don't think it's a huge indicator for clubs

Think Greshy got 30 last year

SPP surprising his critics? Did very well in the clean hands test too.

Others who may interest us who finished in 2 Top 10s :
Jonty Scharenberg
Jarrod Berry
Joe Atley
Jordan Ridley
Ryan Garthwaite
Josh Williams (GWS academy)
Isaac Cumming (GWS academy, but they won't take all of them)

Last year O'Kearney, Coughlan and Rice did well in these tests too.

It's interesting to look back at those from years past. In 2010:

Clean hands test
=1 Josh Caddy 28/30 93
=1 Dyson Heppell 28/30 93
=3 Mitch Wallis 27/30 90
=3 Josh Farmer 27/30 90
=3 Jarryd Lyons 27/30 90
=3 Tom Hickey 27/30 90
=3 Jai Sheehan 27/30 90
=8 Ben Reid 26/30 87
=8 Alex Fasolo 26/30 87
=8 Jamie Cripps 26/30 87
=8 Joel Wilkinson 26/30 87

Kicking test
1 Jed Lamb 29/30 97 (record)
2 Aaron Young 26/30 87
3 Tom Liberatore 25/30 83
4 Gerald Ugle 24/30 80
4 Ben Jacobs 24/30 65
6 Nick Murphy 23/30 65
=7 Billie Smedts 23/30 64
=7 Tom Gordon 23/30 64
=9 Lucas Cook 23/30 63
=9 Callum Sinclair 23/30 63

Clean hands test that year had about a 50% strike rate (Caddy, Heppell, Wallis, Reid, maybe Lyons, Hickey, Cripps). Kicking test much lower: only Libba has really kicked on from that group, though Aaron Young was good this year.

Interesting also that of all those names from the kicking test this year, there's 1 in contention for a top 10 pick (English), and maybe 2 more in contention for top 20 (Berry and Clarke?). Clean hands test looks a bit more correlated with where someone is picked.

So I suppose my point is that these tests are a pretty rough guide to whether someone becomes a good player, but the clean hands test looks like it would be much better to look at.

Drafting Jarrod Berry, Jonty Scharenberg and Jack Maibaum while trading for Jack Steele would do wonders for our skills as well as our J-names quota.

Same for Joe Atley, Jordan Ridley and Josh Williams.

Worth noting Jack Steele was in the Top 10 for beep test, 3km and kicking in his year at the combine.

Harry Himmelberg??

Isn't he already playing for GWS?

I saw Florent likened to Josh Kelly (awesome) but plays on a forward flank and will in time be a winger. Does Florent have genuine AFL midfield potential?
I would have thought our wings are almost set with Newnes, Riewoldt (currently), Acres (at times), Savage, Freeman (potentially), White (potentially), etc.

With Steele in the side as a forward flanker/mid, that'll make it tough for Florent to crack in for a while.
Thoughts?

Was the best midfielder out of the lot in the game last Friday. Had more clearances than anyone out there IIRC?

Would love to get a pick that could get us SPP, I think he's a beauty. Hard to say where he'll go in the draft though.
If we do get 3 picks inside 30 and his still available with our last one of them id take him. Absolute beast, just throws the ball on his boot without looking but im sure you can coach that out of him.

Drafting wise id go outside mid, kpd, BA mid.

Don't reckon he will after that All-Stars game. Apparently even Pelchen said there is a clear top 6 this year and he's one of them.

Great that Florent had such a good finish to the year, as he could be pretty ideal for us.

I wonder who the six are? McGrath, Mcluggage, Brodie & Bowes near certainties then there's SPS, Ainsworth, Taranto & maybe even English who is rated #1 by at least one recruiter. Setterfield, Perryman & Scrimshaw are likely the next rung down followed by Marshall, Logue, Rotham, Venables, Florent, Berry & Simpkin amongst a few others that will go mid-late first/ early second.

I think we should get someone very good at 10. There's a chance someone goes earlier than expected (Marshall or Logue will appeal to Port imo) & we get a guy we rated top 5 at 10.
