List Mgmt. Draft Discussion 2016

OK i'm on the SPP wagon. If we get him and end up with all of the Saints fans on big footy bemoaning his disposal..... I'm blaming you. ( that's fair isn't it )?
Haha, I need to make it really clear that I'm by no means an expert on him, as I haven't seen him a heap and I'm certainly not suggesting that his disposal (or at least disposal efficiency) isn't an issue. It pretty clearly is, but hopefully we can help him to improve it if we do draft him and I reckon by the time he starts coming into his own we won't have as many, if any others in the team with really poor disposal (eg. Gilbo and Geary may both be gone), so I think we could live with it if it is as bad as some suggest and doesn't improve. Remembering that we almost won two flags in 2009/2010 with Clint Jones, Sam Gilbert, Raph Clarke, Jason Blake, Zac Dawson and Jason Gram's kicking in the side.

Again, he's not Jason Daniels though and at worst he has a powerful, long kick, so him kicking it long, fast and high to the likes of Paddy and Bruce would be far from the worst thing in the world. Think Jason Gram (but maybe not quite as long- Grammy could kick it up to 65m with a DP and 70m with a torp and I haven't heard of Sam kicking it quite that long).

If you go by Richo's philosophy that most of them end up the player they are at U18 level, at AFL level, you're probably getting a cross between Maverick Weller, Nathan Wright and Dusty Martin, as I said. He doesn't get as much of the ball as Martin, or as little as Wright, but is more the type like Weller, who will get it between 15 and 25 times a game, playing a similar type role, but have a real impact when he does, like Mav. May have a bit more of a midfield game than Mav does though, hence being a bit more like Dusty Martin in that regard, if he does, and he's also much closer to Dusty's size than Mav's. The similarities with Wrighty have been well documented, with the kamakaze way he takes everyone on with his run and then the sometimes wonky disposal at the end of it.

Like I said, the question would probably be (if we think his disposal is acceptable enough) whether we want another Mav type (I do, especially if we think he has genuine midfield game) and also possibly whether we believe we'll be getting Martin through FA at the end of next year. Of course we probably aren't, but if for instance we have an agreement with him that he'll nominate us through FA in 12 months time, then we probably go for more of a silky skilled outside types in the draft.

It's interesting to read the "who do you predict your club will draft" thread on the D&T board. Almost everyone who's club has a pick between about 12 and 30 picks SPP at one of their club's picks in that range, so it seems like most who have seen anything of him want him at their club. Which is understandable, given how many of his plays really stand out and are so memorable and impactful.

Here's where we should be smart and use the media to our advantage.

GC have just said they will pick up Shade in the rookie draft if he hasn't been picked up.

We should come out and say we're going to pick him up at 61 in the draft even if we don't want him. May force GC to use 10 if they really want him back or to take a tall with 10. Alternatively another club to go early on him and disrupt the order / cause sliders. Makes you wonder wtf is going on at GC tbh.

Applies to other players too and could be done multiple times.

I mean, delisted players can be taken without using picks anyways.

Ah. Yeah :$

Well the theory applies to others though.
Just pointing out that its possible to influence clubs with higher picks.

KM part about small forwards shows a lack of understanding of our game plan.
RIcho wants our mids running in to crumb the ball no sitting in the forwardline clogging it up and allowing the defender to get intercept marks.
Why have 1 small crumbing forward kicking 30+ goals when we can have 4 mids kicking 20.
But maybe he's right maybe we should made a play for the Maynetrain:rolleyes:
Stkilda was simple Mids Mids Mids and a tall defender

I like the way he does his reviews, very thorough and reasonably accurate.
His thread can be used as a reasonably accurate resource.

Iv'e never really agreed with his assessments of list needs.

Even if we were to part with Longer next year, rucks have way too much of a premium to simply delist unless they're utter, utter spuds. Witts got a third and fourth rounder, Longer would get us more.

And then we might consider drafting a ruckman...

Definitely under 25yo. About 21 at most. His name is on his ESPN articles and he's on Facebook (the one with the photo inside the play equipment). Would have well and truly still been at school when he started doing his phantoms.

I don't really have much issue with what he said about us except for the ruck part and I also think he's overlooked the potential of Jack Lonie in the crumbing role up forward. Thought what he said about Billings was perfectly reasonable. Given that he was talking about the outside midfield role, Jack has really only played 2 or 3 games worth talking about there, so he's far from established in that role.

I think you'll find he's almost 26.

Here is his LinkedIn profile for some clarity.

Good on him, he's young and he goes out and stamps out a career for himself as a draft expert. I'm an old campaigner who thinks anyone under thirty is mentally deficient with little or no ambition to do anything other than wank all day so he's done pretty well for himself. He seems to be an integration aide for Autistic children so he's not some arseh*le.

Bit of unwarranted hate on KM here which probably stems from jealousy a touch.

He has provided us all with a free service for close to decade now which he does in his own time without being paid to do (to my knowledge, although probably gets a few bucks off ESPN now). Not only does he write up extensive summaries on players a lot of us haven't even heard of, but he's also more than happy to further use his own time again to answer questions to anyone who asks, generally in depth. Yeah some of the things he says aren't 100% correct and might not be the absolute best identifier in talent, but I challenge anyone else on here (or all of BF for that matter) to do better... They won't because they can't. He's the best bigfooty has got. Always has been, always will be.

Also to learn he's only in his early 20s is an incredible. I thought he would definitely be in his 40's by now the way he writes so well and with so much depth.

I dunno, man, part of the genius of what Ameet has developed, is this reputation as real helper to other clubs. We shafted Hawthorn at the trade table, and they thanked us for doing them a favour!

Meh, I prefer he plays his cards close to his chest personally.

No need to try and manipulate what other clubs should take. It's worked for us so far. We traded out pick 5 amd 25 and got 16 back used on the prospect who we likely would have taken at 5 anyhow aswell as Carlisle obviously.

To me that's better management than someone like Dodoro who makes threats through the media like 'we will take him in the PSD' or 'we will use our first pick to force academies to use theres'

Stay quiet, do work, reap the rewards.

His list of educational achievements is very impressive, although his employment record is found wanting. Says he who left school at 14! And started work at 14.

Well going by points yes.
In reality we helped Hawthorn out so they could land JOM when they had no other option to make it happen.
There is nothing wrong with taking advantage of a situation and it would be remiss of us not to do so.
I don't want Ameet to become like Dodo (God no!).
However, persuading other clubs above us in the draft to pick a player type that we don't want would be genius wouldn't it?

So we've established we don't need a ruckman and pretty much the only way we'd even consider one is if English does a Grundy-esque slide. So what kind of kids are y'all hoping we'll pick up?

he subtly asks to get the thread back on track

KM is a star. He gives information that's almost impossible to find and has been answering thousands of questions from fans year after year in his draft threads, long before all this ESPN stuff and still does.
