List Mgmt. Draft Discussion 2016

I know we need backup talls but IMO we also need outside speed and class. I cant help but think if we could settle Shai Bolton in Melbourne he would become our next Nicky Winmar. He is electric in everything he does and does at it at top speed - he is the next Hill or Isaac Smith of the modern era and that outside brilliance we are crying out for!

I am not sold on Shai Bolten. Granted I have only seen his highlights from national carnival and allies game, but outside of having genuine pace and agility I don't see much. Seemed to turn it over more often then not and likes to just throw it on the boot, also missed simple targets by hand. His WAFL colts form might be better but looks like he is not good enough by foot to push out of the forward line. Small forwards are not on the shopping list I would imagine. Big upgrade on wright though I guess. Would rather try to turn Rotham/Ridley/witherden onto a wing or we look a SPP for speed.

No questioning his talent, those wa boys especially aboriginal are very hard to settle that's the real challenge

Will be interesting who we take at picks 36 and 61 as well if we aren't interested in inside mids. This draft is bloody stacked with them.

St Kilda fully expecting Brodie to slip to at least 10 as I mentioned to one of his biggest supporters in Stavro the other night.
Now...if we had have kept 10 we wouldn't have selected him anyway. Trout rates our inside mids and now thinks we are set. Dunstan, Acres, Armitage, Gresham, Steele is a pretty full card. I realize that our inside work was appalling the last couple of years but that's more down to inexperience and immature bodies. I think from next season we start to improve rapidly in that department, especially with the addition of Steele and Stevens and also Blacres is about to explode.
Pick 23 this year is a hard one to prepare for as our first pick because we're at the mercy of everybody else. But, if a KPP that we rate highly is still there then I don't think we'd hesitate. Our list is still not in the position that we have the luxury of picking based solely on needs.
The club is confident that at least one player we rate between 10-15 will still be on the board at 23. I was told that club expecting some twists and turns in first and second rounds this year because of the evenness of the crop, no club really knows which way the others may go.
This doesn't really make a great deal of sense, we traded away 10 so everyone wants to hear we wouldn't have picked him same with Gresham last year at 5.

You say we think we are set for inside mids, but then say we aren't in the position to pick for needs. Brodie would be picked at 10.

I don't think it's too much of a concern for our club to be honest.. we have gotten remarkably better at looking after players when they leave home for Melbourne... for the most part homesickness can be cured by regular games in the seniors..

Brett Anderson says he would be concerned about the go home risk with shai Bolton, if he says he's concerned then he must know something we don't

If Barrels can get his ass to Sydney by 5.30pm next Friday, I'll give him a ticket.
Excellent news (and luck!) mate, but unfortunately I won't be able to take up your very generous offer.

The way the cards have fallen I'm fathering that weekend, and as I write this I'm sitting in a coffee shop in Brooklyn, so I'm both flogging my savings and not in a position to complain.

Keep us all updated mate.

Just received an email that I won 2 tickets to the draft from that competition on the AFL website...

Giddy up! **** yeah!

(Ps. I entered using my wife's email address as well & she also won 2 tickets.... So I actually have 4 tickets)

Good you can give a blow by blow description! !!!!

well he was in a motorbike accident just over 10 years ago, and is missing a few fingers, but considering how the Aussies are atm, he'd just about win the AB medal[/QUOTEthats a good description of the aussies

Really? How'd that go for Cam McCarthy or Elliot Yeo or Harley Bennell or Jamie Cripps or Joel Hamling? Seems like more WA boys than ever are holding out for a move home.

We haven't lost anyone for 4 years.

Acres, Dunstan, have come in.

But we picked kids with strong character

Everything calmed down over there?

I can guarantee Brodie wouldn't have been picked at 10 by us if he was still there. It would be like us selecting another ruckman, there comes a time when you need to back in what you've already got. With Steele committing to our club before the trade period (and Stevens to a lesser extent later on in period) it really finished off our quota of insiders.
And what I meant by we aren't in a position to pick on needs is if Pick 23 comes around we rated a KPP much higher on our board than mids available then we pick the KPP.

In order of florent, Marshall, battle then Rotham(if saints think Rotham is a mid then he jumps into a battle with florent as the first choice)

He's at 33 on the Draft Machine.

Yeah rated to be taken from 25 -50. Its interesting because I've seen some well regarded phantoms suggesting he may go as early as 18. I haven't seen any that still have him available after 33.

Rotham offers real pace and i'd be pretty happy if we took him.
His man on man ability is a question mark. Get him in and get Tom Curran as a personal trainer.

No pressure Rors, but you are our eyes and ears. We are relying on you.....

Ruckman are a different game to midfielders. You can't really play a heap of them.
The midfield can take a host of players. While at 189 Brodie is by no means one dimensional, he's also not slow.
Its not wise to just rule out players without clear character or ability flaws.

Still pretty testy.

Happy I'm out of the city a bit.

Yeah, just checked the interweb and it's looking pretty scary!
