List Mgmt. Draft Discussion 2016

I'm just having a bit of a hard time believing the players we already have are the ones that are going to bring us from 15th in contested possession to say top 5.

The worry for me is GWS and the Bulldogs are extremely good at both contested possession and are highly skilled. So basically they win it then don't give it back. If we're only good at one of those things then how in gods name are we going to beat them?

Need to take into account though that we came 15th in a year in which in most games we basically only had the 4 going through the guts and with Armo well short of his best (after having done almost no preseason) and with one of our other "main 4" in there (Dunstan) only playing 60-odd % of a lot of games and averaging just 17 disposals.

On top of the improvement in CP's we could get from Armo and Dunstan from next year and beyond if they're fitter (and Ross could certainly win more), all of the following spent little to no time in the guts for us this year, but could play a lot more there in coming years, potentially making us a lot stronger in that area as a result: Acres, Steele, Stevens, Gresham, Sinclair, Weller, D-Mac, Minch.

By the end of next season we'll know a lot more about what that group are likely to give us going forward and if by then we feel like we still need to add significantly to that area, we can throw a buttload of cash at a Fyfe/Martin/Rockliff/Hopper type- something we may be planning on doing anyway.

I can certainly see why we wouldn't want a Clarke/Scharenberg type in particular.

Yeah, just checked the interweb and it's looking pretty scary!

Sorry; my bad.

That's an image from the Big Footy Saints BLK protest
Im pretty sure that image is from the Bigfooty Saints Board post-2016 loss to West Coast at Subi

Excellent news (and luck!) mate, but unfortunately I won't be able to take up your very generous offer.

The way the cards have fallen I'm fathering that weekend, and as I write this I'm sitting in a coffee shop in Brooklyn, so I'm both flogging my savings and not in a position to complain.

Keep us all updated mate.

What are peoples thoughts on what might happen with GWS's picks?
Sounds like they're going to lose 15 and 37 and that they'll match the bids on Setterfield, Perryman and Cumming and pass on Sproule, MacReidie and Mutch.

It will make pretty much no difference to us unless we're planning on bidding on any of them. Could certainly live with getting Sproule with 36, especially if we've gone shorter with 23.

Wow just had a look at some stats and while the Bulldogs have been pretty good at contested ball during their rebuild the Giants were basically on our level before jumping up to fourth this year.

Many/most of those who are likely going to form our future midfield have barely even played in the midfield yet (if at all), so our scope for improvement in that area is very significant, I would have thought.

Fred Kildonan and Armitage2Riewoldt, should we either close one of these two threads (this one and the "Who will we pick at 23, 36 and 61?" one) or merge them, since they're pretty much about the same thing?

+1 to this, its annoying the hell out of me. plus the 23, 36, 61 is blocked on this machine i am on, bcause its apparently a betting website. so please merge it into this one

Wouldn't mind Mutch.

MacReidie is an interesting one. Versatile key defender, touted as a top pick last year, had a down year. Wouldnt mind us biding on him at 36 but would think GWS would match.

Certainly hope we dont waste our money on Rockliff.

Hopper or Fyfe on the other hand sounds good

Surely we bid on waterman at 23. If wce match the bid then it means our pick 36 goes up the order and possibly our later pick. If they dont match then we get a KPF/Medium FWD

If wce match our bid, pick 36 goes up 1 place and our pick 61 will go up two places
