Re: Draft Discussion

Suban would also be capable of filling a back pocket role, if he wasn't able to crack into the midfield. Very versatile player with great on-field leadership. Also another big bonus is that he is not only tough as nails but is a fantastic field kick.

Re: Draft Discussion

Suban will get the rising star 2009.
Don't bookmark it, though the players who get a lot of the ball tend to win the award, and he fits the bill

He definitely does look ready to go doesn't he? I'd say he wouldnt have to do a lot of filling out in the weights.

179cm and 82kg. Would probably have to lose 1 or 2 kilos maybe.

They also had Jayden Post going at pick 17 in the rookie draft!

Re: Draft Discussion

I will be a bit disappointed if we don't re-rookie the Goo.

i think he admited himself on the afl.com.au draft countdown that his weakness at the moment is prolly his fitness, which he should be working on.

but like many of you said, if he's available at pick 26, i'd certainly want him (if we pick vickery with 8)....just watched highlight clips on suban, man, he's all class, magnificant skills, IIRC he was all australian last year in the u18s when he was still only 17

great pick if available

Weird, the HUN has him top 30 & BF's Phantom had him late IIRC. Then AllFooty has himm in the rookie draft. Will be interested to see where Burgatron has him in his Phantom this afternoon.

Hmmmmmm out of 9 selections in all drafts we have taken 3 Ruckman,3 KP,s,3 mids.

Take out the 9 who were delisted-1 Ruckman,1 KPP,7 Mid/Flankers.

Certainly a u-turn in recruiting if it turns out similar to the above.

Re: Draft Discussion

8 Richmond - Tyrone Vickery (200cm, 89kg, ruckman/tall forward)
26 Richmond - Nick Heyne (187cm, 79kg, medium forward/midfielder)
58 Richmond - Casey Sibosado (191cm, 85kg, medium forward)
70 Richmond - Tom Hill (199cm, 79kg, tall forward/ruckman)

On paper that looks like a pretty good draft for us.

Nick Heyne and Mitch Morton in the forward line together would be very dangerous.

Maybe not as dangerous as Walters and Morton though.

Re: Draft Discussion

Cut Petts for Cousins?

As much as I like the idea of Cousins running around, I would suspect that could damage our morale pretty badly. I think Petts is relatively well liked?

Re: Richmond draft meeting tonight.

Burgatron 2008 released and we get the following players:
8 – RICHMOND – TYRONE VICKERYSandringham Dragons, VIC, Ruckman, May 31, 1990, 200cm, 88.8kg
(Draft range: 4-8)

Expect Vickery or Hartlett to land at Punt Rd. It seems unlikely both will be available for the Tigers at No.8, but should that be the case Hartlett may get the nod. Still, Richmond will be delighted to snare either player. Vickery, whose father John is a rehabilitation and conditioning coach at Richmond, is so highly rated that some recruiters believe he would not be out of place at No.1. The Tigers have also been linked with Yarran, Hill, Hurley, Sidebottom and Sam Blease. Shaun McKernan and Jordan Roughead also shouldn't be discounted, considering they could be taken anywhere from here through to Richmond's second pick (26).
26 – RICHMOND – JAYDYN POST
Western Jets, VIC, Tall forward/defender, December 5, 1989, 194cm, 88.4kg
(Draft range: 23-48)

After producing what many recruiters described as one of the greatest TAC Cup matches of all time late last season – he had 35 disposals and took 18 marks – Post has risen up the pecking order. He now seems a certain top 50 selection, with Essendon, North Melbourne, Western Bulldogs, Hawthorn and St Kilda also interested. The Tigers are believed to be very keen and will have to take him now, considering their next pick is No.58.
58 – RICHMOND – ADAM COCKIE
Subiaco, WA, Small/medium midfielder, April 18, 1989, 180.3cm, 82.2kg
(Draft range: 52-79)

Cockie has been linked to at least four clubs – Richmond (58 and 70), Collingwood (73), Essendon (67 and 79) and West Coast (52) – with the Tigers believed to be keen. Richmond will also monitor the whereabouts of Jetta, Shiels, Paul Cahill, McCulloch and Bryn Weadon. Former Bomber Tom Hislop could also be in the mix here, but he seems more likely for No.70.
70 – RICHMOND – TOM HISLOP
Essendon, TAS, Medium midfielder, June 7, 1988, 185cm, 85kg
(Draft range: No.53-not selected)

Taken at No.20 in the 2006 NAB AFL Draft, Hislop was delisted at the end of the 2008 season, largely due to some off-field issues. He remains a highly-regarded prospect and will be claimed with one of Fremantle's selections from No.50 onwards or by Richmond at No.58 or No.70. Collingwood has also been linked, but the Tigers and Freo are favoured. If Hislop is unavailable and West Coast passes up Jamie Bennell, don't be surprised to see him slide through to No.70.

Here is Bennells write up:
52 – WEST COAST – JAMIE BENNELL
Swan Districts, WA, Small defender,, June 7, 1990, 178.5cm, 68.2kg
(Draft range: 36-not selected)

West Coast is believed to be very keen on Jamie Bennell with its final selection and may even consider him at No.36. A small, running defender would be a welcome addition to the club and Bennell fits the bill. The Tigers are also understood to be keen on Bennell. Others in contention for West Coast at its final pick include Adam Cockie, Jones and Bart McCulloch.

Other notables:
Meyer taken at 75 by the Hawks, Rockliff taken at 71 by the Roos(would almost rather him ahead of Hislop because of the trouble Hislop has been in) Sibasado taken 44 by Adelaide, Suban at 30 by Sydney,

Re: Draft Discussion

Interestingly, he has us going Post over Suban. I wouldn't mind that seeing as though we'd be going with two mids at 58 and 70.

I havn't seen much of Post. Can he play CHF?

vickery post cockie and hislop

according to the burgertron phantom draft it will be these 4 players who will be wearing the richmond Guernsey next year. what are peoples thoughts on this

im pretty happy with it as vickery is exactly what our club needs for the future and post is a sam fisher clone IMO

Re: Draft Discussion

Here's a video of Post. http://www.sportingpulse.com/club_info.cgi?c=1-3020-27614-0-0&sID=74084

Looks very athletic and a neat kick. Freak mark as well. At 26, him or Suban look fantastic, wouldn't be too fussed whoever we get. Looks capable of CHF role as well.

Also at pick 58 where Burgan has as taking Cockie, I noticed Paul Cahill is still available. Wouldn't mind having a look at him. Although I think ideally, we would want someone like Jetta, Motlop, or a Pearce to slip through to 58.

I'm happy with giving Hislop a shot. There isn't much around, and if he works hard could be a very good player. Pick 70 is about taking a gamble and I think Hislop is well worth it.

yes he can cotch and a great mark and we need a chf bad

Re: Draft Discussion

Post does look good. Would be happy with Vickery and Post with our first two. Wasn't sure I wanted Cockie with 58 as was hoping for a small nippy forward. However having looked at some footage he looks like he could play this role pretty well. Looks like he has good closing speed and doesn't mind tackling or kicking goals.

Re: Draft Discussion

Has anyone who's seen him play live, know much about Cockie?

Re: Draft Discussion

Cockie is a tough in and under mid from the WAFL. Missed out being drafted in 06 and 07. Won the colts BnF in the WAFL this year I think, also played a couple of games in the seniors. Lacks a bit of pace and polish but is a tough extractor.

Is very smooth, has nice agility, great hands and great balance. Only an average kick although he reads the ball niceley. Compare him to a young Mark Coughlan
