This is the latest draft game installment from the team that brought you The Lions Draft, The "Where they went in the draft" Draft, The Jumper Number Draft, and The Cricket Draft.

Once again, this draft has a twist, and it is based on players' names. The rules are as follows:
  • You must pick a team of 22 players (according to the pre-determined draft order).
  • All players in the AFL are up for grabs but you must have at least one player in your team starting with the different letters in the alphabet. I've had a look at the list of AFL players, and there are not many Is, Qs, Us, Vs, Xs, Ys or Zs. Therefore, you must pick at least one player who has a last name starting with the other 19 letters (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, R, S, T, and W).
  • The other 3 players can start with any letter, but you are only allowed a maximum of 2 players per letter.
  • The winner is judged according to a poll that is posted after the draft is finished.
Now we have had quite a few of these drafts starting in the middle of last year so I don't know how many people would be interested. I know lionbear and POBT said they may be keen to play last week, so if they are still game, they are in. According to the time it usually takes to play these games, and the number of players in each letter category, we can probably only accomodate up to 6 or 7 coaches. So if you are game for a challenge, sign up!

The only thing is, if you play, ideally you should be able to get on BigFooty at least once a day. That speeds the draft up quite a bit. We also usually organise a time when we are all online to get through a fair few picks in one go, so the process is not drawn out.

Depending on whether we get enough players, the draft will probably start Thursday or Friday.

Are we ready to start? I reckon if 1 more person could put their hand up, 5 would be an ideal number to proceed with.

One more thing, what will the team be judged on? Is it on how the team would go if it were to play today, in 2008 or beyond? I would suggest the best way to do it is to ask people to judge on current form disregarding injuries. Thoughts?

Yep. We can start today. I think 4 is an ok number, I agree 5 would be ideal but I don't know if anyone else is keen.

I'll get a neutral poster to do up the draft order and we can take it away. It may take a little while to get going because I will be out for a while this afternoon and tonight, and you said you can't post much on weekends, but it will get kicking along soon enough.

Who were 1-4 though?

Ah, I figured you must have had that worked out already. OK, I'll draw the 4 names out of a hat.

*drumroll*

OK, the official order for the draft game is:

1st pick - Lionbear
2nd pick - Warwick
3rd pick - Browndog
4th pick - POBT

I presume the picking order is 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 3, 2, 1, 1, 2, etc.

Good luck everybody:thumbsu:

Yep, thanks Grim, so the order is:

1. lionbear
2. Warwick
3. BrownDog
4. POBT
5. POBT
6. BrownDog
7. Warwick
8. lionbear

and so on. So it's on you lionbear when you log back on. I'll start a thread just for the selections which you can post your player in.

I was hoping that one of Judd, Pavlich or Brown would slip through. Very torn re: my first picks. There's at least one guy that I was desparate to pick but I couldn't run the risk of not having quality KPP forwards.

That's a pick from left field if i've ever seen one. Full credit to you BD- I think the voters will appreciate some gutsy recruitment.

On the other hand, very sub-standard drafting from POBT so far. Sticking with the "established guns" and the "superstar" players. I think the public will see through that very safe and no-risk drafting procedure.

What can I say... I love the Hoff.
